New #1 Contender, Battle Royal Action, & the Return of Blake Albright

April?s show saw a few MWA returns and several MWA debuts (see the section about the battle royal). With the current MWA heavyweight champion, Jeff Starchild, nursing an injury, the MWA still delivered the same hard-hitting action that is seen each month at the Spavinaw School gym.

MWA Max-Division Title Match
?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid v. Bobby V

Morbid entered the Spavinaw School gym as arrogant as ever, having reigned over the Max division for six months, tying the longest title reign in the MWA to date. However, with a victory over his opponent, Bobby V, he would set the record. However, the tough New Yorker from the Bronx would not be an easy adversary. The two men exchanged some pretty stiff chops to one another, along with a flurry of hard-hitting clotheslines. Bobby V nearly got a pin after nailing an Asai moonsault off the second rope onto Morbid. Bobby V displayed his submission skills when he locked in an armbar submission, using his legs, however, the crafty Max-division champ was able to maneuver Bobby V into a pin, which gave him the victory and the record for longest reign as an MWA title holder.

Winner and STILL MWA Max-Division champion: ?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid

Bobby Star v. ?Darling? Dustin Heritage (w/ Excellence Personified)

The April show saw the MWA debut of Bobby Star. It also marked the return of Excellence Personified?s ?Darling? Dustin Heritage, after missing the March show, due to commitments in Hollywood. Bobby Star was quickly admired by the fans for his tenacity in the ring. However, the experience of the talented JetSetter, combined with the presence of ?Handsome? Jack Legacy and ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry, made the MWA debut of Bobby Star a lackluster event. Heritage was able to capitalize on the advantage and land a superkick to gain yet another victory for 205 lbs. of man-pretty, ?Darling? Dustin Heritage. After the match, the members of Excellence Personified employed themselves as a shoddy MWA welcoming committee by giving Star a three-on-one beat down. Welcome to the MWA, Bobby Star.

Winner: ?Darling? Dustin Heritage (w/ Excellence Personified)

Tim Rockwell (w/ ?Big? Stevie Caballero) v. ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk

Max McGuirk returned to in-ring competition during the April MWA show against an old adversary in Texas native, ?Terrific? Tim Rockwell. McGuirk returned with the same fire and energy that the fans have come to love about him. Rockwell returned, much to the dismay of the fans, with his arrogant Texas attitude and his manager, ?Big? Stevie Caballero. Though it had been quite some time since these two gladiators were in the ring together, the feud re-ignited, as if it was just yesterday. During the match, ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry, who beat McGuirk with a chair a month earlier, strolled casually and ****ily to the ring. The distraction allowed Rockwell to hit a DDT that nearly broke the floor of the ring. Despite interference from Caballero and Barry, McGuirk was able to secure the ?W? by knocking Rockwell into Barry and getting the pin. Afterward, Rockwell and Barry attacked McGuirk to avenge the loss, when ?The Poster Boy? Blake Albright made his MWA return!! With the help of a steel chair, he was able to clear the ring and help his fallen comrade.

Winner: ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk

Compound Varsity (?Broken Arrow Bad Boy? Justin Lee & Canadian Red Devil) v. Foreign Legion (Boris Saarikoski & ?Luxemborg Beast? Dutch Hagen w/?Big? Stevie Caballero)

After making his MWA debut in March, the ?Luxembourg Beast? Dutch Hagen caught the eye of ?Big? Stevie Caballero, which led to his hiring into the Texas-Foreign Legion as the tag-team partner of the Russian juggernaut, Boris Saarikoski. Having faced Hagen in his debut, Lee decided to call on the help of his long-time partner, Canadian Red Devil, to try and thwart the newest duo in the MWA. Compound Varsity got off to a quick start, using their speed advantage to counter the power game of the Foreign Legion. However, after one mistake, the Foreign Legion would show that dominant authority by utilizing several power moves. The Compound Varsity showed their resilience by mounting a short comeback, however, they were unable to match power with the bigger duo, and the Foreign Legion began their partnership with an important victory over a veteran team. After their victory, Caballero turned their attention to the new prot?g? of the Old School Express, S. L. U. G. G., as they sent a message by beating the spectator from the crowd. However, ?Big Country? Jake Boulder came to the ring to make the save for his friend. The MWA tag-team champions, Old School Express, will definitely need to keep an eye on these two behemoths.

Winners: Foreign Legion (Boris Saarikoski & "Luxembourg Beast" Dutch Hagen w/"Big" Stevie Caballero)

28-Man Battle Royal to name the #1 Contender to the MWA Heavyweight Title

The main event was a 28-man battle royal, with the winner being awarded a title shot against MWA Heavyweight Champion, ?The Human Action Figure? Jeff Starchild, who was out of action due to injuries sustained after being beaten following his cage-match title defense against Michael Barry in March. Speaking of Michael Barry, he, along with fellow Excellence Personified member, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy would be the first two participants in the battle royal, a match that saw several debuts of new wrestlers. Of course, rather than fighting, the two embraced and spent their time mouthing off to the crowd in anticipation of the next entrant, who unfortunately was the masked man known as Cobra Kai. The EP members quickly attacked him, and after a Saturday Night Special by Michael Barry, he was sent back to the locker rooms for the evening. The next entrant, David Kyzer, didn?t fare much better than Cobra Kai, as he was immediately attacked by EP and quickly eliminated, this time by Legacy. The next entrant, another masked man named Pennywise, was able to last a little longer, though he was getting beaten by EP. Justin Lee would be the next competitor in the battle royal, and he immediately evened the odds for the masked man. Ignition came to the ring next, as Pennywise was being eliminated. Ignition was unable to stay for any length of time, as he was eliminated. During Ignition?s elimination, Max McGuirk entered the battle royal and immediately went after Michael Barry. EP?s luck was starting to take a turn for the worse, as Bobby Star entered next, and immediately made amends for the attack earlier by going after the members of EP. The odds quickly evened again, as Tim Rockwell was the next entrant into the battle royal. However, the next two entrants, Ryan Kelly and Kevin James Sanchez, decided it would be best to try to eliminate EP, in an attempt to better their chances at winning a shot at the MWA title. The next competitor was the enormous Russian, Boris Saarikoski, which once again, evened the odds for Excellence Personified, and Saarikoski?s comrade, Tim Rockwell. J. P. Steele would enter the ring next, however, he would be quickly eliminated, along with Bobby Star and Kevin James Sanchez. Steven Sterling, who was a part of MWA?s inaugural show (then known as Keystone), made his return as the next entrant. Canadian Red Devil would be the next entrant, and he immediately went to work on Boris Saarikoski to try and eliminate the biggest man in the battle royal. Evan Newcastle would be the next entrant as he made his MWA debut, followed by Bobby V. Steven Sterling would be eliminated shortly, thereafter, then most of the wrestlers in the ring turned their attention to Saarikoski and eliminated the big Russian finally. Michael York and ?The Gun Show? Rick Russo made their MWA debut?s as they were the next two entrants into the battle royal. Blake Albright would be the next entrant, and he immediately began to attack Michael Barry, who had been in the battle royal since the beginning. Bobby V would be the next person eliminated, while Matt Emerald made his way into the mix. Evan Newcastle and Rick Russo were eliminated next. Damien Morte made his MWA return as the next competitor in the battle royal, followed by the arrogant Dustin Heritage, giving Excellence Personified a three-man team in the battle royal. Damien Morte, Mike York, and Matt Emerald were the next to be eliminated, which made room for the debut of the enormous Huge-adore, El Lucha Grande. The vile Shane Morbid was the next entrant into the battle royal. He methodically strolled to the ring, making sure to remind everyone that he is the self-proclaimed ?King of Spavinaw.? Tim Rockwell would once again get a helping hand, as Dutch Hagen was the next contestant into the battle royal. ?Big Country? Jake Boulder was the final entrant into the royal rumble, much to the delight of the Spavinaw crowd. However, the crowd?s enthusiasm would be short-lived, as Justin Lee, another crowd favorite, was eliminated. Ryan Kelly would be the next person eliminated, after lasting quite some time, making an impressive MWA debut. El Lucha Grande was eliminated next, courtesy of most of the wrestlers in the ring. Canadian Red Devil immediately followed the enormous masked man, leaving eight grapplers in the ring. Much to the delight of the crowd, Shane Morbid would be the next man eliminated from the battle royal. Dutch Hagen was eliminated next, leaving six wrestlers in the ring. McGuirk and Barry were continuing their fight, as well as Rockwell and Albright, which led to all four men being eliminated, leaving Jake Boulder and Jack Legacy in the ring. It looked like Jake Boulder might win the battle royal, however Jack Legacy was able to gain the victory and was named the new #1 contender to the MWA Heavyweight title.

Winner and #1 Contender: ?Handsome? Jack Legacy

With the return of Blake Albright, the formation of the Foreign Legion, and Jack Legacy, who knows what to expect when the MWA emanates once again from the Spavinaw School gym. With summer right around the corner, the action will be getting as hot as the weather?but that?s just my two cents worth.

Your sophisticated redneck,
John Wayne ?J.W.? McGuillicutty
