Ric Flair was given the key to the city of Greensboro, NC on Friday, December 5th.
USA Today had a question in its pop culture quiz asking who Ric Flair's opponent was that beat him at Wrestlemania 24. The correct answer was Shawn Michaels.
Saturday night in Charlotte, NC, Reid Flair - son of the WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair - made his professional wrestling debut teaming up with his brother David to take on The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs). Jimmy Hart was in the Nasty's corner, Ric was in Reid & David's corner, and Hulk Hogan served as the special guest referee. The match ended up with Reid and David doing a double figure four on the Nasty Boys but Jimmy Hart interfered to distract Hogan, who then punched Hart and gave him the big boot. Hogan then signaled Ric Flair to come to the ring. Hogan covered his eyes and turned around while the Nature Boy applied the figure four leg lock on the Hall of Fame manager and Hogan counted the three with both Nasty Boys still locked in the figure four. Hogan then celebrated with David and Reid as his WCW theme song ran in the background while Flair left the ring. Hogan then motioned flair to come back to the ring, but he declined. Footage of this already made it on YouTube and you can see it by going to Wrestling-Online.com/News/General/Reid_Flair_Match.shtml.
John Carpenter's 1988 cult film "The Live" starring Roddy Piper is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins. No word as to whether Piper will reprise his role as John Nada. According to The Internet Movie database (IMDB.com), the remake is slated to be released in 2011.
Mick Foley may be returning to the ring at TNA's "Genesis" pay-per-view event in January 2009. The following is the official description for "Genesis": Some call him a hardcore legend, a daredevil?a risk-taker. He is Mick Foley. He crossed the line and came to TNA to challenge some of the greatest athletes and legends. Now he's ready to make history inside the six-sided ring. Foley vs. Kurt Angle was scheduled for sometime in 2009 but at last word it would not take place until "Lockdown" which is usually in April.
Sunday's New York Daily News has a short piece on Mick Foley (in the paper, not on the website) on the page 6 gossip section, and listed Foley's co-ownership of TNA like it was a shoot: Mick Foley, who joined Spike TV's "TNA Impact!" wrestling series this season after a long run with the WWE, tells This Just In he plans to bring a lot more originality to the show, both as a wrestler & on-air contributor. "When the WWE was really in it's prime, you had 4 or 5 guys hitting their stride creatively. I like to think I was the 1 of those guys. I think we were able to do that because we were given the chance to create our own material & make our own mistakes," says Foley, who announced his co-ownership of TNA in October. "I've been an outspoken critic of what I feel is overly scripted shows over the years, so I hope to be able to share some of what I've learned with the younger guys at TNA." Foley, who has been nearing retirement for several years, says he has a renewed love for the sport thanks to his move. "I'm having the most fun wrestling I've had since 2000."
A. J. Styles replaced Rhino in the main event against Kurt Angle at TNA house show in Troy, OH on December 5th after Rhino was rushed to a nearby hospital due to high blood pressure.
The lowest rated segment of this past week's "TNA iMPACT!" was the main event featuring TNA World Champion Sting defending the title against Rhino.
