Battle Royal Set for October

Well, we're about ten days from MWA's follow-up show, and it is already sounding like it's going to follow up in the footsteps of last month's breakthrough debut.

I find it interesting that the Gentlemen Thugs are going to meet the Old School Express again...this time in two, singles matches as opposed to a tag match. The Thugs were on the short end of the stick last month, but then again, they did mess with Danny Hodge and got what they had coming to them. I just hope Cothern's hand has had time to heal, since being tortured at the hands (or hand, if you will) of Oklahoma's great, Mr. Hodge. The Thugs aren't going to take the loss very easily, and I look for them to be more intense than ever...if that's possible.

Another match that is definitely worth mentioning is Blake Albright v. Tim Rockwell...round 2. Now there are several factors here that we should consider: (1) "Big" Stevie Caballero is going to be in the house. Always the "X" factor in a Rockwell match, (2) Michael Barry is going to be on hand...what beef does he have with the young Albright?, (3) Blake already has a busy schedule the week before with two big NWA shows that could soften the young superstar, and finally (4) I can't help but think that the article on Oklafan.com about Albright continously missing the brass ring has got to be weighing on his mind, which could be an inadvertent advantage in ring psychology for the crafty Rockwell. All things considered, Albright had better bring his "A" game and hope there is some extra credit, or he may once again be "eluded by that brass ring."

Finally, I arrive at the creme-de-la-creme of matches: the Battle Royal. Now, I know that battle royals have been around for some time, but they are still some of my favorite types of matches for one reason at least...unpredictability. Also, this is going to determine the #1 contender for the MWA heavyweight title. Plus, it's going to feature the MWA debut of Max McGuirk. With names like Canadian Red Devil, "Handsome" Jack Legacy, "Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry, El Super Colibri, and others, one has to wonder what is going to be blazing throughout the champion's mind as he prepares for a tough November defense...no matter who wins the tournament. Heck, I might even throw myself into the match...I should have just as good a shot as anyone.

Don't get too excited, I'm not going to enter the match...the gym doesn't have the capacity to hold the number of McGillicutty fans. Plus, the battle would only last as long as C. M. Burnham's attention span...which isn't very long. It could happen, but that's just my two-cents worth.

Until I can dig up some more change,
J.W. McGillicutty
