As of just before the start of the show, “WWE Friday Night SmackDown in Oklahoma City had 6,533 tickets issued, a number much lower than usual.

WWE’s YouTube channel has started a countdown of the 25 most shocking moments in “SummerSlam” history. This week they revealed the following:

23. Shawn Michaels returns to the ring in unsanctioned match against Triple H (2022)
22. Ultimate Warrior ends Honky Tonk Man’s historic Intercontinental title reign (1988)

Recent WWE Vault additions include a 10-Man Tag Team Match featuring The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, British Bulldog, & Brian Pillman) vs. Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust, and The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) from “In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede”.

Jake Roberts didn’t hold back when he was asked what he would do if he was running WWE. His answer was simple: a lot of people would be gone. While speaking with Bill Apter, Roberts was asked what his first move would be if he had control of WWE’s booking. Jake didn’t give some long answer. He went straight to the point, saying, “Fire about half of them.” Apter asked if he really meant that, and Jake made it clear he wasn’t joking. “Yes, I would.” Robert explained who he would actually keep. For him, it comes down to who can really wrestle. “Just the guys who can actually wrestle. That’s the ones I would keep.” That is about as blunt as it gets. Jake Roberts basically said WWE has too many people on the roster, and if he was in charge, only the real workers would stay. The timing is interesting because WWE already had a big round of cuts after WrestleMania 42. It was previously reported that those releases were tied to TKO catching up on cuts, NXT call-ups, and SmackDown losing an hour of TV time. Roberts wasn’t talking about those specific releases, but his take lines up with the idea that WWE could be carrying too many people. The difference is that Jake would apparently go much harder with it. He made it very clear that he wouldn’t waste time. If WWE handed him the book, half the roster might be out the door fast.

Moose responded to a fan who asked what it’s been like to work with NXT through the WWE-TNA partnership. Moose responded “Awesome. Obviously it’s WWE, they are a first class organization they were always great to me every time I was there. Looking forward to what’s to come in the future with the relationship.

While appearing on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet”, TNA Wrestling co-founder Jeff Jarrett commented on how the X-Division changed the course of the wrestling business: “I probably wouldn’t realize how influential the X-Division is in today’s modern wrestling had I not done interviews and podcasts. I’ll say this: I had a conversation with Will Ospreay backstage at the Greensboro Coliseum during Sting’s final match, and we were just kind of catching up. He told me he watched (Samoa) Joe, A. J. (Styles), and (Christopher) Daniels from “Unbreakable 2005”. He and his mates, as he said, watched it, and he looked at me and said, ‘Jeff, I watched that and said, not only do I want to do that, I can do that—and I can do it better than them.’ Well, look at the results. But you know, this is where we talk about being misunderstood. The entire X-Division concept and creation was that I knew, starting the company, there was a lot of unbelievable talent on the independent scene. The independents in 2002 compared to the independents in 2026 are radically different, but there was a lot of talent out there. I knew they didn’t have TV experience. I’m not going to say they didn’t have experience telling stories and angles—there was just never a platform. In independent wrestling, they knew to go out and put on the absolute best match they could. It’s what they had been trained to do. So, I wanted to give them a real platform. I knew that lucha libre was beginning to really influence American wrestling off the momentum it gained in the ’90s. Obviously, I knew strong style was beginning to influence the European mat style, and it was all becoming kind of a melting pot. I can remember, literally about a half-mile from here, having a conversation with my father specifically about the X Division, and he was very negative on it. ‘Son, they don’t know how to tell stories, and there’s no money in this.’ And I’m like, ‘Dad, yes, there is. This style is where the industry is headed. It’s just that simple.’ So, as it’s progressed along, and now that I look back on it, the X-Division style of wrestling is now the main event style of wrestling.”

Jeff Jarrett was on “Good Day NY” to talk about the “Dark Side of the Ring” premiere, which started with the first two parts of a three-part documentary on TNA.

Jeff Jarrett has explained that he has not wrestled in AEW for the past 18 months because the company has primarily used him as a “Zero Hour” analyst. Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Jarrett said he is not involved in AEW’s creative or talent relations departments and simply fills whatever role the company asks of him. Jarrett added that he remains ready to wrestle whenever called upon and has continued working independent events to stay ring-ready, despite not competing in AEW since January 2025.

Jim Cornette confirmed one of TNA's most infamous backstage stories on the season premiere of “Dark Side of the Ring”. Asked directly whether he ever made a terroristic threat toward Vince Russo, Cornette answered, "Well, it depends on what you call terroristic. The letter was, and I quote, if I could kill Vince Russo and get away with it, I would kill him." Russo, who was also interviewed, said: "You're gonna kill somebody over professional wrestling? Are you kidding me?" Cornette said the letter got him reported to the FBI, adding, "He knows that I legitimately despise him because he's a moron and he's in over his head." Cornette was let go from TNA in 2009, during the period covered by the episode, when Russo was given full creative control after Jeff Jarrett was sidelined. Russo said in the episode "Jim Cornette, to this day, does not understand this is a television show."

Game Changer Wrestling has announced that Avery Styles, son of WWE Hall of Famer A. J. Styles, will make his debut for the promotion on July 31 and August 1.

Joe Rogan has revealed that Ric Flair was apparently targeted in a scam involving a fake invitation to appear on “The Joe Rogan Experience”. According to Rogan, someone posing as a representative of the podcast contacted Flair and allegedly attempted to obtain his bank details under the guise of paying an appearance fee, a scam Rogan said has targeted others as well. Rogan said he does not know whether Flair shared any financial information or lost any money. Flair announced in late 2025 that he had been invited back to the podcast, although Rogan indicated the invitation was fraudulent.

Former TNA Wrestler Amanpreet Singh (aka Mahabali Shera) defeated Jake Hager with a 3rd round knockout at “Power Slap 21” on Friday in Las Vegas, NV. Hager won his debut match in Power Slap on March 2, 2026 with a 3rd round knockout of Devin Jenkins. Power Slap is co-owned by UFC president and CEO Dana White. Pro wrestler Sinn Bohdi is the matchmaker and recruiter for the company.

Former WWE NIL and Oklahoma State University wrestler A. J. Ferrari was arrested in Douglas County, NE and is charged with third-degree assault by strangulation or suffocation of a pregnant woman, third-degree domestic violence assault, and first-degree false imprisonment. His bond was set at $20,000 and he is expected to be back in court on August 13th. In June of this year, Ferrari was arrested in Lincoln County, NE on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and obstructing the police. In 2022, Ferrari was charged with sexual assault but those charges were dropped. WWE cut ties with Ferrari after his 2022 legal troubles and departure from Oklahoma State’s wrestling program.
