On January 7th, Sting (using his real name Steve Borden) filed to trademark the term “Old Man Sting” for merchandising purposes.
Taya Valkyrie said that she and her husband Johnny TV are safe, but have been evacuated due to the California wildfires. She said “We’ve been evacuated, but are safe. Holy sh*t this is bad. Pray for LA”.
TV Announcer Chris Charlton was suspended by New Japan Pro Wrestling for comments during the “Wrestle Dynasty” show about AEW misusing Will Ospreay, Jay White, and Kazuchika Okada and calling AEW President Tony Khan a “money-mark”. He was trying to start a New Japan vs. AEW storyline and Rocky Romero and Walker Stewart both seemed very uncomfortable. Romero tried to calm him down to no avail. Bushiroad President Takaaki Kidani made a comment about the English announcing of the show being an issue immediately after the show was over. Charlton was not on New Japan’s “New Year’s Dash!!” show on January 6th and Jeff Cobb made a remark to Stewart in character about being out there by himself. It is being reported that Charlton has been suspended indefinitely, but others have reported it as being two months. The two month timeline has not been confirmed by New Japan at this point.

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has revealed the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his 2009 return to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. In a recent episode of his podcast “My World,” the wrestling veteran provided insights into the power plays and personal conflicts that shaped this pivotal moment in TNA’s history. Jarrett attributed his initial TNA departure to a strategic move by company president Dixie Carter. "Dixie knew about the Kurt-Karen relationship, she took this opportunity to do her power play."
This statement alludes to the personal relationships that complicated professional dynamics within the company. Jarrett’s return to TNA television was orchestrated through unexpected channels, primarily through a call from head writer Vince Russo. However, the terms of Jarrett’s comeback remained ambiguous. "A lawyer eventually called me and said, ‘You’re going to start back in January (2010). Here’s what we want you to focus on: live events and international.’" Interestingly, Jarrett was kept uninformed about significant changes to TNA’s product, including the introduction of the six-sided ring. He did, however, receive unusual instructions regarding his appearance.
"We want you to have a look that you’re kind of – you know, just dishevelled and not really engaged in work at all." Perhaps the most intriguing revelation was the missed opportunity for an immediate high-profile feud with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. Despite the obvious storyline potential, this direction was reportedly vetoed by Dixie Carter due to personal animosities. "Dixie despised Karen, that simple."
This behind-the-scenes tension apparently influenced major creative decisions within the company. Vince Russo, recognizing the potential, had reportedly said to Jarrett:
"Bro, the money is Jeff, Kurt and Karen." However, due to ongoing conflicts, this storyline didn’t fully materialize until over a year later in 20112.

WWE is planning to bring back former Royal Rumble winners for the 2025 Royal Rumble in Indianapolis, IN. It was noted that several stars are set to appear and be honored at the event this year, including WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Duggan won the very first Royal Rumble in 1988, and Flair won the match back in 1992.

Oklafan extends condolences to Rick Harris, who competed under many names but is probably best known as Black Bart. He passed away January 9, 2025 as a result of Stage 4 colon cancer which had spread to his liver. There appears to be a dispute over his age as some sources say he was born in 1948 and others say 1955. Harris was a second generation competitor, the son of George "Baby Blimp" Harris and began his career in 1975. He appears to have spent much of his early years trying to find an identity and was a frequent competitor in the Mid-Atlantic and Georgia areas. By 1982, he had made his way to MSW as a bounty hunter for Skandar Akbar. He spent 5 months here before the Mid-Atlantic territory once again called his name, but he spent the bulk of 1983 still directionless. Although he ventured into Southeast Championship Wrestling and All-Japan Pro Wrestling, it still seemed like he was not gaining any traction in making a name for himself. It was finally at the end of 1983 that he made his way to Florida, where he formed a partnership with Ron Bass and captured the NWA United States Tag Team Titles. In late 1984, he and Bass moved themselves back to the Mid-Atlantic territory. After splitting with Bass, Bart engaged in feuds with Terry Taylor and Ron Garvin over the NWA National Title and Sam Houston over the NWA Mid-Atlantic Title, both of which he captured in this time. By 1986, Bart was on the move again, venturing into WCCW. He appeared to defeat Chris Adams for the WCCW World Title, but in reality, Adams left WCCW for the UWF and this was a phantom title change. Bart would hold that title for about a month before losing it to Kevin Von Erich. He remained in WCCW until May 1987 before moving north to the UWF. There, he made it to the finals of a tournament to crown the inaugural UWF Western States Heritage Champion, losing to eventual champion Barry Windham. Bart made his way back to WCCW in 1988, then ventured back to Florida in 1989 and even ventured to the USWA, but could not make the impact he was hoping for. In 1990, he was called up to the WWF, but never used as more than enhancement talent. According to a story he told, he, Ron Bass and J. J. Dillon were supposed to reunite as The Long Riders up there, but he chose not to go at that time and Vince held that against him when he finally did decide to go. Bart gained a tiny bit of notoriety in the WWF, as he was the opponent for several stars who were making their WWF debut while he was there including Dustin Rhodes, The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) and Shane Douglas. After initially trying to spark up feuds with Sam Houston and Steve Williams, WCW put Bart together with Dutch Mantel and Randy Colley (at the time known as Deadeye Dick) as The Desperados. They were a comedy gimmick who were searching for Stan Hansen, but Hansen wanted nothing to do with this story and left WCW never to compete in WCW again. With Hansen gone, the group had no story and Bart once again found himself as enhancement talent. Bart would make his way to the GWF two months after leaving WCW. There his career seemed to reignite as he captured the GWF Brass Knucks Title as well as the GWF Tag Team Titles 3 times, most notably once with his protege John Hawk, better known today as John "Bradshaw" Layfield. Bart also began to regularly compete on independent shows, including PZWA shows in Oklahoma from 1992 - 1993. He returned for one final attempt in WCW in 1996, but again, was not used as more than enhancement talent. Bart would retire in 2006, counting JBL and Necro Butcher as the most high profile graduates of a wrestling school he had opened. Sadly, Bart's health began to decline in recent years. He underwent heart bypass surgery in 2015 and then received the diagnosis of colon cancer in 2023. He had made the decision last week to go into hospice and discontinue chemotherapy. He didn’t want to suffer so greatly with whatever time he had left. Through it all, Bart remained a fighter until he simply could not fight anymore, just as he had fought anyone placed in his way in his career. Bart is remembered as a tough competitor in the ring and a laugh-riot in the locker room, joking about any and everything. Bart competed in 19 documented matches in Oklahoma. The earliest was July 18, 1982 where he teamed with Judy Martin and lost a Mixed Tag Team match to Vivian St. John & MSW Mid-South Tag Team Champion Mr. Olympia at an MSW event in Tulsa. The last was a loss to Dick Murdoch at an NWA event in Lawton.
