Kevin Von Erich made his presence felt during “AEW Rampage” on December 15th, delivering the Iron Claw to Jake Hager after a 6-Man Tag Team Match which also involved his two sons Ross and Marshall. Following the conclusion of the match, the action continued with Hager, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker getting the upper hand on Ross, Marshall, and their partner Orange Cassidy. As the Von Erichs, Cassidy and Danhausen fought back, Kevin came down and Danhausen directed him to take out Hager. Kevin entered the ring and applied the Iron Claw on Hager to a huge pop from the Arlington, TX crowd. Jericho went crazy on commentary, screaming, "No! Disqualify him! Disqualify him," even though the match was already over. It was super over with the crowd as expected and then they gave the Von Erichs a standing ovation. Cassidy then put his sunglasses on Kevin to end the segment. It probably should also be noted that Kevin was wearing shoes, and not barefoot.
Jake Hager joined Oklahoma City's KWTV News 9 to talk about AEW’s debut in Oklahoma. To watch the interview, click here.
The December 20th “Holiday Bash” episode of “AEW Dynamite” from Oklahoma City averaged 782,000 viewers on TBS, down 7.5% from last week. It's the lowest audience total for the show since October 25th and is the third-lowest Wednesday night viewership of 2023. “Dynamite” drew a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That's down 13.3% from last week. It ties the third-lowest rating of the year for “Dynamite” in the key demo. As compared to the same week in 2022, “Dynamite” was down 18.3% in total viewers and down 13.3% in 18-49. It's the 20th week out of the last 22 where the show has been down year-over-year in total viewership.
High praise for the AEW World Champion. Next up on the docket for M. J. F. is an ROH World Tag Team Title defense alongside Samoa Joe on the December 27th episode of “AEW Dynamite”. They’ll be defending the titles against opponents of The Devil character’s choosing. Following that, M. J. F. is heading into an AEW World Title defense against Samoa Joe at the “World’s End” pay-per-view on December 30th. Praise was heaped onto M. J. F. by Ric Flair while Flair was being interviewed by “The Wrestling Classic”. He stated that the AEW World Champion could be the next Randy Orton. “Well number one, I think he’s (M. J. F.) actually — he comes across as confident in real life as he comes across with his confidence in the ring and he’s got a good interview, he’s got a great look, he worked hard. I think he’s got the confidence in real life that he portrays on TV and I think the future is unlimited for him and he’s really good. He could be the next Randy Orton. That’s about as high a praise as I can give him. Flair signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling. AEW President Tony Khan commented on Flair’s deal and said AEW is being paid by Wooooo! Energy for all of Flair’s appearances.
A. J. Styles made his return to WWE television on the December 15th edition of “WWE Friday Night SmackDown” after being out of action since September. Styles showed up to help even the odds as Randy Orton and L. A. Knight were brawling with The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, & Jimmy Uso) at the conclusion of the show. Styles delivered a Phenomenal Forearm to Reigns but then turned on Knight, delivering a clothesline to take him down. Orton looked a bit impressed at what happened and Styles walked out of the ring and passed by The Bloodline as Roman Reigns and the rest looked confused over what happened. L. A. Knight took Styles' place at the “Fastlane” pay-per-view, teaming up with John Cena to take on Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa after Styles was taken out backstage by The Bloodline. Styles’ last match was on the September 15th episode of “SmackDown” when he was beaten by Finn Balor.
WWE has teased the return of The Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) and the group aligning with Karrion Kross & Scarlett. During a Kross & Scarlett vignette on Friday's “SmackDown” episode, an image of Akam, Rezar, and Paul Ellering in silhouette was shown. Kross used the word "Authors" in the promo, heavily implying the group's return to the company and an alliance with Kross & Scarlett.
The George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame announced last week that its trainer award has been renamed the Verne Gagne Award.
Josh Nason interviewed actor Holt McCallany about playing Fritz Von Erich in “The Iron Claw”. To watch the interview, click here.
AARP Magazine has a mention of Andre the Giant playing Bigfoot on “The Six Million Man” TV show in the 70s.

Afa the Wild Samoan underwent two exploratory heart procedures on December 12th to check his valves. On The Wild Samoans Facebook page, a post was made saying “Yesterday Afa had two exploratory heart procedures to check his valves. In his own words: 'I kicked out before the 1!' He is home and doing very well. Nothing keeps a Wild Samoan down! His follow up appointment is on the 20th to go over next steps. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he may need a valve replacement. But he's up and at it, working hard on the WXW Seminar on January 13th and the first show of the year, February 17th, with proceeds to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Afa was joking with and signing autographs for the hospital staff.” Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Devion Black suffered whiplash, an injured vertebrae, a pinched nerve, and a severe concussion during the main event of the TexPro card in Ardmore on December 16th. He is expected to be out of action for the remainder of 2023. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
