The Scoop

NEWS
Fightful Select reports that a segment with Karrion Kross was intended for last week’s episode of “WWE Friday Night SmackDown”, but was ultimately cut from the show. Last week's episode was taped on October 27th. The segment, which would have been Kross’ return to WWE TV, would have featured him, Scarlett, and Shotzi. WWE sources claim the segment would not have made sense for anyone involved, which is why it was pulled ‘early in the day’ on October 27th. It was never filmed. This info wasn’t given to some in the company, so the segment was still listed on run sheets and on the show plans as of 7pm Eastern prior to last week’s taping. However, this snafu didn’t cause any timing problems because it was a taped show, and they were able to adjust. It remains to be seen when or how Kross returns to television. As for Shotzi and Scarlett, several people in WWE were said to be happy with the pair’s hosting of their web series “Chamber of Horrors”, as well as “Halloween Havoc”.

Full matches added to WWE’s YouTube channel last week include Mankind vs. Carlito from “Taboo Tuesday 2005”.

Cody Rhodes revealed in an interview that the last match he was offered in AEW was against “The Icon” himself, Sting. Speaking to Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso, Cody said he was a "little Stinger" back in the day and is honored to have played a part in Sting's final run. "It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory," Rhodes said. Sting made his debut with AEW in December 2020 during the “Winter Is Coming” event when Rhodes was still an Executive Vice President with AEW, and now, Sting is winding down his career with his final match at the “Revolution” pay-per-view in the beginning of 2024. "Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career," Rhodes continued.

Sammy Guevara has been removed from The Don Callis Family team for the Street Fight against Chris Jericho, Paul Wight, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi scheduled for "AEW Dynamite" on November 15th. Guevara is still suffering from a concussion. He has been replaced on the team by Ring of Honor World 6-Man Tag Team Champion Brian Cage. Prince Nana, Cage's manager struck up a deal with Callis.

Ethan Page revealed that his Alpha-1 Wrestling indie promotion is returning with events in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on February 4th, March 24th, and May 19th.

Jim Ross has been doing commentary on “AEW Collision” in recent weeks, but he revealed during his podcast that he will be taking another break from television. J. R. stated the following: “I’m gonna take some time off, starting this week. I’m not gonna be in [Oakland]. But my doctor believes that if I take a few weeks off, I’m not sure how many, we’ll see, it’s gotta heal, that being off an airplane for a few weeks will be good for my leg to heal, so what’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna take a few weeks off. I’m not gonna be on TV for a while until I can navigate the waters a little bit and get in that deep water. I love what I’m doing. We have a unique roster. There’s so many guys that we need to help as much as possible get over, but that goes for any wrestling TV show. That’s their objective. You have one goal when you’re on television in pro wrestling. Get the talent over. So I love doing that. I love that role, I love helping these young kids who ask questions. ‘Did you watch my match’ or ‘Would you watch my match’ or ‘What do you think about this?’ So I’m gonna take some time off to get my leg to heal. I’ve been suffering with this shit for almost two years. How much good barbecue can a country boy eat? So somewhere along the way, I gotta turn the corner and get better. I’m not in a great deal of pain except when I get to the city I’m flying to, my leg swells up like a cantaloupe, and it hurts like hell. So I want to try to not travel, see how that affects me, and go from there. So I’ll be missing for a couple weeks. I’ll keep everybody posted here. I’m feeling good, I feel strong. I feel motivated. I feel like I’m lucky that I’m working for T. K (Tony Khan). He’s the one that brought up the fact that we want you healthy for the long run. So he’s been taking very good care of me. I really do appreciate what he’s doing for me and that he’s paying attention. I have a contract that’s in place, I tend to honor it. It’s still got a few months left, and Tony Khan has indicated to me, as early as this week, at least to my representative Barry Bloom, that he’d like for me to stay. I’m not looking to go anywhere. It’s just that I need to heal. That’s all. Simplistically as that. My leg needs to heal, and the good news is that the wound is getting much better, so I am healing. I just gotta get better. It’s not a matter of pain tolerance. The pain comes when I get to the city I’m flying to. Flying is the enemy right now. So if I can heal a little bit more, then flying becomes less of an issue. With this job, I can’t do it without flying. So flying is a necessary evil, if you want to use that term, and that’s kind of how I’m approaching it. So I have no plans on leaving AEW. I like working for Tony. Tony’s been good to me, he’s taken great care of me. We just have a very unique relationship. I’m not high maintenance, even with a bad leg and stuff. I don’t want to be high maintenance.” JR has previously taken time off from AEW due to skin cancer treatment.

Ric Flair was brought to Schembechler Hall last week to speak to the University of Michigan football team. Flair is friends with Jim Harbaugh, the coach of the team, who he knew from the late 80s when Harbaugh was quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

The highly-regarded documentary “Beyond The Mat”, which was originally released in 1999, is getting the Blu-Ray treatment for the first time worldwide thanks to Via Vision Entertainment. Directed, written, produced, and narrated by Barry W. Blaustein, “Beyond The Mat” focuses on the lives of professional wrestlers outside of the ring, primarily Mick Foley, Terry Funk, and Jake Roberts, as well as some up-and-coming wrestlers of that time. Blaustein got exclusive access to WWF, ECW, and other indie events where he got unprecedented footage that lifted the curtain on professional wrestling. “Beyond the Mat” was released in theaters in the United States in March 2000 and then hit VHS and DVD but was never released in high-definition. This Blu-Ray release features the theatrical cut in HD, the director’s cut in SD and commentary and extended conversations with some of those involved in the documentary. Special features include a conversation with Jesse Ventura, Mick Foley, and Blaustein, dinner with the legends, and other audio commentaries. It is available for pre-order on Amazon with a price of $24.99 and a release date of November 24th.
