NEWS
Jim Ross's contract is set to expire in the coming weeks. Ross signed a one year contract last year. There doesn't appear to be an plan to replace Ross as lead announcer at this time, but it's a well known fact that Michael Cole is being groomed for his spot.
Speaking of Jim Ross, he was shown on television being on the sideline for the Miami of Florida vs. Oklahoma college football game in Norman, OK.
Ric Flair was on local sports talk show Prime Time with The Packman this morning on WFNZ here in Charlotte. He said he will be opening a new business in Charlotte this week called Ric Flair Finance. Flair talked a little bit of football before the host asked him if he really quit WWE. Flair kinda laughed at it and said "No, it's not true." and asked what WWE would do without him. He didn't seem too sure of himself but he said he would talk more about everything next week on the same show. In a follow up to Flair quitting WWE, he did give his notice on or around August 20th. He is still under contract and still getting paid by WWE. Flair was promised a storyline where he would chase the world title for one final run. The plan wasn't necessarly to give Flair a last title reign, but if the chase worked, one wouldn't be surprised if they allowed the Nature Boy to win one final title. The angle has been descriped as a "Rocky" (from the movies) like angle, and it has been learned that Steve Austin had a hand in on developing the idea, and at the time, Vince and Stephanie McMahon supported the plan. The plan was discussed prior to Flair's move to Smackdown. For whatever reason, the idea never saw the light of day, and apparently Flair giving notice was to serve as a wake up call of sorts to WWE management. Flair doesn't want to job out at this time of his career. Most expect Flair to return to WWE.
The promo for WWE's "Cyber Sunday" pay-per-view event recently featured two matches. The first, representing "RAW", WWE RAW World Champion John Cena defends the title against Randy Orton in either a Falls Count Anywhere Match, a Lumberjack Match, or Hell In A Cell. Representing "Smackdown", WWE Smackdown World Champion The Great Khali defends the title in a Fatal Four Way Match against Batista, The Undertaker, and Mark Henry with special guest referee Steve Austin, Mick Foley, or Roddy Piper.
The word over the weekend was that Jeff Jarrett's return would likely be saved for the first two hour "TNA iMPACT!" on October 4th.
Students from the University of Oklahoma Film School attended the MSWA show Saturday and filmed it as part of a documentary they are preparing for their class on professional wrestling. They interviewed wrestlers and attendees, including Oklafan Senior Editor C. M. Burnham.
