The Scoop

The Scoop

Posted: Mar 11th 2019 By: Compiled by Oklafan Staff

NEWS
As first reported by PWInsider, Jeff Jarrett is officially on the WWE creative team. The current Observer noted that was expected to happen. Bruce Prichard is officially a Senior Vice President as part of creative although not head writer of any of the shows.

In his latest podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross announced that he would be no longer part of the WWE family after his contract expires at the end of March. Ross said that the decision came after he spoke to WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and they mutually agreed that this is the way forward. After signing a new two-year deal, Ross wasn’t used much on WWE television and his last appearance was back at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia last year. J. R. told his listeners that he still wants to be a part of the world of professional wrestling and doesn’t think he will be without a job for long. His last date as a WWE employee is March 29th, meaning that he will be even missing the WrestleMania festivities. He will be in the New York area for that weekend anyway with his one-man Slobberknocker show.

Major League Wrestling has an interview with Jim Cornette which you can see by clicking here.

Dallas Page, Jake Roberts, and Vickie Guerrero have been announced for the 2nd "Chris Jericho Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea" cruise in January. Guerrero will be the “guest cruise director.”

The City of Lexington,TN named this past Saturday “Hotstuff Eddie Gilbert Day” in the city.

Oklafan extends condolences to John Crow, whose mother passed away on March 5th.

Oklafan extends condolences to Giganto, whose grandfather passed away on March 5th.

Oklafan extends condolence to the family of Billy Red Lyons on the passing of his brother-in-law, pro wrestler Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer on March 8th.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of King Kong Bundy, who passed away March 5, 2019 at the age of 61. At the time of this writing, no cause of death is known. Bundy, whose real name was Christopher Pallies, was a Region 8 High School wrestling champion in 1973 & 1974. After training at The Monster Factory in New Jersey, he began his career in the WWF in 1981 as Chris Canyon, competing as enhancement talent. In 1982, he would make his way to WCCW, where he would be renamed Big Daddy Bundy (a name taken partially from a British wrestler and partially from serial killer Ted Bundy). Initially a fan favorite, a disagreement with The Von Erichs would lead to a heel turn by Bundy, who would then ally himself with Gary Hart. On March 8, 1982, he defeated Kerry Von Erich for the American Title, which he would hold until losing it to Fritz Von Erich on June 14, 1982 in Fritz's retirement match. That match resulted in Fritz shaving Bundy's head, giving him his trademark appearance. Bundy would also win the American Tag Team Titless with Bugsy McGraw on April 11, 1982, defeating Kerry Von Erich & Al Madril. One day after Fritz retired, Bundy was awarded the American Title again, which he held until September 5, 1982 when he lost it to Kevin Von Erich. He also lost the Tag Team Titles to Kerry Von Erich & Kevin Von Erich on July 5, 1982. Bundy would rebound one week after losing the American Title, teaming with Bill Irwin to defeat The Von Erichs to regain the American Tag Team Titles, which they would hold for 2 and a half months before losing them to The Fabulous Freebirds combination of Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy. Bundy would depart WCCW and move to Mid-South, where Bill Watts gave him the gimmick of demanding a 5-count in his pinfalls. He spent a year in MSW, becoming a member of Devastation, Inc., but failed to capture any championship gold. Leaving MSW, Bundy went to Georgia, where he was a charter member of The Legion of Doom and captured the NWA National Tag Team Titles with Masked Superstar. Eventually, he would part ways with the LOD, engaging in his last brief run as a babyface. Bundy would then head to Memphis, winning the Southern Heavyweight and Tag Team Titles (w/ Rick Rude). But in 1985, Bundy entered the most famous period of his career as he returned to the WWF. While he never captured any gold in the WWF, he was a major participant in the first 3 WrestleManias. At the 1st WrestleMania, he set a record for the shortest WrestleMania match as he defeated S. D. Jones in 9 seconds. At WrestleMania II, arguably the peak of his career, he lost to WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan in the first Steel Cage Match in WrestleMania history. And at WrestleMania III, he lost a 6-Man Tag Team Match to Hillbilly Jim and his midget tag team partners after he bodyslammed one of the midgets. Bundy continued to wrestle in the WWF until 1988 when he entered a period of semi-retirment and entered acting. He gained a new set of fans for his appearances on "Married With Children" as the brother of Peggy Bundy and also appeared in movies such as "Moving". Bundy returned to the WWF in 1994 as part of The Million Dollar Corporation, but only stayed a year, leaving in 1995. He spent the next 12 years on the independent circuit where his biggest achievement was defeating Jonnie Stewart for the AWA World Title (as promoted by Dale Gagne). After facing Jim Duggan in a match in Somerset, KY in 2007, Bundy walked away from the wrestling business and never returned. Bundy has 16 documented Oklahoma wrestling appearances. The earliest was at a WCCW event in Lawton where he lost to Kevin Von Erich by DQ. The last was at a WWF event in Tulsa, where he defeated Hillbilly Jim.

Triple H tweeted about the passing of King Kong Bundy. The tweet said “Saddened to hear of King Kong Bundy's passing. A WrestleMania attraction, a true big man and a fan-favorite of the @WWE Universe. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

New Japan Pro Wrestling held a 10-bell salute for King Kong Bundy at Wednesday's 47th Anniversary show.

WWE released their tribute video for King Kong Bundy which you can see by clicking here.
