NEWS
WWE and 2K Monday officially announced that AJ Styles will be the cover Superstar for WWE 2K19. The news was actually spoiled late last week after Styles filmed the commercial for the cover unveil in Memphis. “As a hardcore gamer and ambassador of everything it means to ‘Never Say Never’ in both my professional and personal life, it is a dream come true to be selected as the WWE 2K19 cover Superstar,” he said. The current WWE champion is the sixth WWE Superstar chosen by 2K for the cover following “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins. The game, which comes out later this fall will have two special editions, a Deluxe, and Collector's edition. The Deluxe Edition contains a copy of the game with special packaging and access to Season Pass, pre-order and Collector’s Edition digital content. The Collector’s Edition, contains the same features as the Deluxe Edition plus exclusive and rare collectibles, as well as limited-edition WWE SuperCard content. Additional details about what will be offered in each edition will be announced by 2K this Summer.

There will be a New York City premiere of the documentary "350 Days," about pro wrestling in the past that Evan Ginzburg put together. The premiere will be on 7/12 at 5 p.m. at the Regal Union Square 14 on Broadway in New York. Among those scheduled to attend are J.J. Dillon, Greg Valentine, Tito Santana, Joel Gertner, and many more stars. The movie stars Bret Hart and Superstar Billy Graham. There will also be a California premiere at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. It will play for one night only, on 7/12, in almost every major city in the country as part of Fathom Events.

Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco will be appearing at the CWF Fanfest on 11/3 at the Marriott Residence Inn on Suncoast Parkway in North Pointe, FL in Lutz, FL. Tickets are on sale at www.eventbrite.com

Tim Rockwell underwent abdominal hernia surgery on June 18th. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

Oklafan congratulates Erica, who recently surpassed 6 months as ASP Women's Champion. She defeated Nikki Knight for the title on December 17, 2017 at an event in Oklahoma City.

Oklafan extends condolences to J. R. Orulian and Brendan Orulian whose grandfather Merlin Moyes passed away June 16th.

Oklafan is saddened to report the death of Big Van Vader, who passed away due to complications from pnuemonia on June 18th. He was 63 years old. Vader, whose real name was Leon White, wrestled and played football in high school. He was recruited by over 40 colleges, eventually playing for the University of Colorado. Drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, he spent much of his pro career on the injured reserve list, but did play in Super Bowl XIV. He was forced to retire from football after a ruptured patella injury. Spotted at a gym by a former college classmate, White was pushed in the direction of pro wrestling, where he would be trained by former Olympian Brad Rhenigans. He would debut for the AWA as Leon "Baby Bull" White, though he would soon change the nickname to "Bull Power" as allegedly he disliked being called "baby". His first opponent was King Kong Brody, a man who he would have many similarities with through his career. After his brief stint in the AWA, White would head to Japan, where he would truly make his name. Thought initially signed by All-Japan, Giant Baba traded his contract over to New Japan and that was where he was given the "Big Van Vader" identity, based on a manga character. He became the first American to hold the IWGP Title and would go on to capture it 3 times, along with the IWGP Tag Team Titles with Bam Bam Bigelow. Bigelow, another superheavyweight, taught Vader much about utilizing a style that most superheavyweights couldn't and much of Vader's technique can be attributed to Bigelow. While competing for IWGP, he also competed (as Bull Power) in Europe where he won the CWA Title and in Mexico where he won the UWA Title, becoming the only wrestler to hold 3 titles on 3 continents simultaneously. While competing in Japan, Vader had a match with Stan Hansen where Hansen hit him so hard that it popped his eye out of socket. Vader completed the match and had to have surgery to install a metal plate to hold his eye in. But this drew attention from WCW and Vader came back to US to compete there in 1990. A tentative working agreement between the two companies allowed Vader to compete for both through 1992, but after suffering a knee injury to The Great Muta, Vader cut back on his Japanese tours and focused on WCW. On July 12, 1992, Vader, who had only appeared sparingly during his first two years under a WCW contract, won the WCW World Title from Sting. He lost the title to Ron Simmons 3 weeks later, but regained it from Simmons 2 days after Starrcade '92. That reign would last until March 11, 1993, when he lost the title to Sting, only to regain it 6 days later. He would hold the title for the remainder of 1993 until losing it to Ric Flair at Starccade '93. During that 3rd title reign, Vader feuded with many notable wrestlers, including Davey-Boy Smith, Sting and Dustin Rhodes. But perhaps most memorable was the feud with Cactus Jack, where he powerbombed Jack on the studio floor, knocking him into amnesia and also causing Jack's head to be caught in the ring ropes in a match in Munich, Germany, resulting in part of Jack's ear being torn off. Following a brief feud with The Boss, Vader would defeat Dustin Rhodes to earn a WCW United States Title opportunity against Jim Duggan at Starrcade '94, adding that title to his resume. He would hold the title until March 25, 1995, when WCW president Nick Bockwinkel stripped him of it for hospitalising Dave Sullivan one week prior. For most of the rest of 1995, Vader engaged in a feud with Hulk Hogan in an effort to regain the WCW World Title. He was fired from WCW after a backstage brawl with Paul Orndorff and briefly returned to Japan before heading to the WWF, making his debut at the Royal Rumble in 1996 at #13. During his time there, he was managed by Jim Cornette and fueded with Shawn Michaels for the WWF World Title as well as the Undertaker. But perhaps his most famous moment in WWF came outside the ring, when he was on a Television show in Kuwait. The host asked him if wrestling was fake and Vader flipped over the host's table and used foul language in his response. He was placed on house arrest and eventually fined $164 for his actions. Vader's WWF career never recovered from this bad publicity and he suffered a long series of losses until departing WWF in 1998. Vader then returned to Japan, capturing the All-Japan Triple crown as well as the Pro Wrestling NOAH Tag Team titles with 2 Cold Scorpio. He also made a couple of appearances in TNA, but much of the rest of his career was spent on the independent scene. On October 22, 2005, Vader defeated Aaron Neil for the IZW Title. He would hold that title until losing back to Neil in a Steel Cage match on March 18, 2006. Vader continued to compete both in America and Japan on independent shows until he collapsed following a 6-man tag team match on April 20, 2017. At the time, it was believed that he was simply dehydrated, but Vader himself would admit to being dropped on his head during the match and blamed that for his passing out. Doctor's test would later reveal that he had congestive heart failure and probably only had 2 years left to live. Vader made 24 documented appearances in Oklahoma. The earliest was on July 12, 1990 at an NWA event in Tulsa, where he defeated Alex Porteau and the last was on September 12, 2015 at the inaugural DI2I event in Tulsa, where he teamed with Andrew Anderson and lost to the Steiner Brothers. Oklafan extends condolences to Vader's family & friends, especially his son, former Oklahoma-based wrestler Jesse White, at this time.

As it's often the case when one of the boys or girls passes away, their peers reflect on their former colleague on social media and judging by the thousands of posts, Vader was pretty much well-liked by everyone. Described as a gentle giant and one of the best big-men to ever step foot inside the squared circle, the former WCW and IWGP champion left a lot of friends behind who admired him and his work. "WWE is saddened to learn that Leon White, better known to WWE audiences as Vader, passed away Monday night at the age of 63," a statement from WWE read. Impact Wrestling was quick to follow saying, "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Vader. Our thoughts are with his family today." One of Vader's biggest rivals, Mick Foley, was one of the first to comment on Vader's passing. "My heart is heavy with the news of Leon White’s passing. He was an amazing performer who brought out the very best in so many. Best big man ever, the most effective monster heel of his generation. My heartfelt prayers to his loved ones, and my gratitude for having known him." Jim Ross, who worked with Vader both in WCW and WWE said that Vader is without a doubt on the shortlist of the greatest super heavyweights. "He will be missed," JR wrote. WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race, who managed Vader in WCW, wrote, "It's with sad condolences to hear that my long time friend @itsvadertime has passed away. He was a great person to manage and a great human being." Vader wrestled John "Bradshaw" Layfield in his last WWE pay-per-view match and JBL recounted what Vader told him that night. "He wanted me to kick out of his finish/he told me “today you get the old Vader, I want it to mean something when you win..” RIP big man, and thanks!" Triple H also chimed in, writing, "Leon White entertained (and intimidated) audiences all over the world with his size, strength, and agility. Saddened to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with his family at this time."

Sting tweeted about Vader: “ Loved working with Leon, loved the friendship I had with him for many years, and especially these last 8 months of his life. He will truly be missed.”

Dustin Rhodes paid tribute to Vader: “Very sad to here of the passing of @itsvadertime . He was @DakotaRunnels22 Godfather and a friend. He will be missed. #RIPLeonWhite”

Will Ospreay, who was Vader’s opponent in one of his last major matches, tweeted today: “May you finally be in peace. RIP Vader.” They faced off for Revolution Pro Wrestling in 2016, with the match being booked after Vader started a social media feud with Ospreay when he criticized Ospreay vs. Ricochet from that year’s Best of the Super Juniors for looking fake. Vader refused to put over Ospreay in their match.

Wrestling DVD Network revealed some of the matches that will be included in the Shawn Michaels unreleased matches DVD that is being put out this October, including
Piper’s Pit segment with Michaels (Syracuse, New York, April 29, 1992)
Michaels vs. Vader for the WWF Championship (State College, Pennsylvania, September 29, 1996)

A Vader collection has been added to the WWE Network.

Post Wrestling released an audio documentary on the life and career of Vader which you can hear by clicking https://www.postwrestling.com/2018/06/22/the-post-profile-the-man-they-call-vader/]here.
