Major League Wrestling is pushing the Tom Lawlor vs. Jake Hager match on its June 7th show in Orlando, FL as a UFC vs. Bellator match.

Netflix had a big hit last year with the addition of "GLOW", the remake of the popular 80s television series "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling'. The series was quickly signed for a second season and the whole cast is returning for more laughs, hair spray, and bodyslams. To make a wrestling show is not easy though, and what makes it even more tougher is the fact that none of the cast members, except for one, are professional wrestlers. So how do you transform a whole cast of ladies who never stepped foot in a wrestling ring and make them believable as they wrestle on the screen? Simple, you call in the professional. And in this case, it's Chavo Guerrero, Jr., the 47-year-old former WWE, and WCW Cruiserweight, ECW, and WWE, WCW, and TNA Tag Team champion. Making his pro wrestling debut in 1994, Guerrero has pretty much wrestled all over the world and had careers in WCW, WWE, TNA Wrestling, and Lucha Underground. His resume` makes him more than qualified to lead these ladies in the ring and Guerrero is back as well for season two as GLOW's wrestling coordinator. His uncle, Mando Guerrero, was the wrestling coordinator for the original GLOW series, so it was important for Chavo to keep the Guerrero legacy involved with the show. But his involvement came thanks to former WWE Diva Eve Torres, who knew GLOW's stunt coordinator Shauna Duggins. "They had previously worked on a different project together, so Shauna asked Eve if she could recommend anyone. Eve referred me....thank God," Chavo said. Duggins and Guerrero have been involved in the show since the beginning, a partnership that continues to this day going into season two of the show. Training for the ladies was a bit difficult but there were no major problems along the way as all the cast members were very eager to learn and were also really great students. "We always stress protecting your opponent and also yourself," Guerrero added, citing a very important part of the professional wrestling handbook. Before the start of season one, things were a bit more difficult in terms of training but when the cast reported for season two, training was quicker. "For season one it really took a whole month before filming for me to get the girls ready," Chavo said. "In season two, after the first week we were already caught up and the girls were ready to start learning new stuff. Definitely much faster in season two." Chavo described all the girls as great and fast learners as well as eager to improve, pointing out in particular Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin, the two top stars of GLOW. But they were not the best! "If I had to pick one of the girls that would’ve been the best, I’d have to say Kimmy Gatewood. We nicknamed her 'Kimmy One Time,' because all I had to do was show her one time and she get it," Chavo recounted. Gatewood plays the role of Stacey "Ethel Rosenblatt" Beswick on GLOW. A typical training day consisted of two separate sessions that lasted two to three hours each, splitting the girls into two different groups. "First, we start with stretching, then warming up, then going into some chain wrestling, then working on any particular moves that I wanted the girls to learn," Chavo said. Chavo's work did not stop there though as then he would see who would be wrestling in that particular episode and work on some matches depending on the script before cooling down. "Of course, we'd mix in some laughs and some show tunes every now and then also!" Despite not appearing on the screen anymore, Chavo Guerrero is still very much involved in the wrestling business and is one of the producers of Lucha Underground, the lucha libre show from television producer giant Mark Burnett. "I’m very involved in that. In the new season, you can expect some definite swerves that you were not expecting in the storylines, some new faces, and some incredible wrestling which Lucha is known for," Chavo said of the upcoming season of LU that starts next month. "June is a big month for me, as I have two shows returning in the same week," Chavo added. "Really looking forward to the success of both, and to see how, not only the wresting world, but the television world receives them both. Both are great shows, and I’m proud to be a part of both of them. Keep watching, because there is much more to come from me in the future." GLOW returns on Netflix on June 29 with all episodes available for binge watching. The show will be available in 4K HDR as well.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Matt Garza, who passed away May 29th at the age of 32. He was suffering from catastrophic organ failure. Garza was trained by Brandon Bishop and initially competed in ACW in Wichita Falls, TX. He was a 3-time ACW Team Champion during his time there, twice with Mr. Brown and once with Payton Scott. He also was a member of Los Tres Minorities as well as J. E. W. Garza’s first match in Oklahoma was January 22, 2005, when he lost to Li’l Joe at an IZW event in Lawton. He would compete against his trainer, Brandon Bishop, at a TPW event in Tulsa on August 13, 2005 and again was beaten. His first major angle in Oklahoma came in SRPW. He entered there on October 7, 2005 and almost immediately came afoul of Bishop again. But this apparently was a ruse, as a match between the two on October 21st ended in a No-Contest when they teamed up to attack referee Keebler and SRPW Commissioner Ray Martinez. Two weeks later, Bishop and Garza teamed against Sonny C and Karl Davis and again, the result was a No-Contest. But because of the violence of this match, both teams were suspended indefinitely. Garza would then return to IZW, where he aligned himself with Al Farat and The Jihad Kid and feuded against Li’l Joe and Doink the Clown. Garza would spend most of the rest of 2006 in IZW, engaging in solid matches, but not having any particular direction. That all changed in 2007 when Mitch W. Carter was awarded the IZW Cruiserweight Title. Garza would chase Carter for that title for most of the first half of 2007, but somehow (often due to the presence of Cabinet members Thomas Rumsfeld and Marianne Albright), Carter was able to hold on to that belt. Even a Ladder Match on March 17, 2007 couldn’t bring the title to Garza. But finally on May 26, 2007, Garza achieved his dream and won his first singles title, beating Carter for the IZW Cruiserweight Title. At the same time he was pursuing gold in IZW, Garza also made inroads to MSWA. He made an impressive debut by beating Brad Michaels by DQ. He also challenged Cody Jones unsuccessfully for the Cruiserweight Title on May 13, 2007. But his most frequent challenger in MSWA was Red the Magnificent, the man he beat for the vacant MSWA Mid-South Cruiserweight Title On June 24, 2007. After that, Garza would make one more appearance at MSWA, teaming with Talon against Tommy Smash & Jessi Jersey in a mixed tag team match. Sometime after winning both titles, Garza disappeared from both IZW and MSWA, never to return. Rumor had it that Mitch W. Carter had him deported to Mexico, but no verification of that was ever found. Garza would only make two more Oklahoma wrestling appearances after that. On October 27, 2007, he and Li’l Joe would open the first GPCW event in Cache, with Joe once again getting the victory. Garza would make further appearances as a referee in GPCW, but this was his only wrestling appearance. And on December 17, 2011, he would lose to Tom Donovan in a first round match in the tournament to crown the first NWA-FTA champion in Shawnee. Garza continued to compete in Texas after his time in Oklahoma was done, but seemed to fade from prominence after 2011. Oklafan was shocked to hear about his physical heath issues shortly before his death. In all, Garza competed in 24 documented matches in Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at Chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, TX on June 4th at 10am. You can view his obituary by clicking here.
