Based on T-shirts that have been printed, these are the Legacy Award Hall of Famers for the WWE Hall of Fame this year: Judy Grable, Toots Mondt, Rikidozan, Farmer Burns, Luther Lindsay, Dr. Jerry Graham, June Byers, and Haystacks Calhoun. WWE started the Legacy Award in 2016, where the recipients were Mildred Burke, Frank Gotch, George Hackenschmidt, Ed “Strangler” Lewis, Pat O’Connor, Lou Thesz, and “Sailor” Art Thomas.
On Monday, WWE posted on Twitter "BREAKING: The #RockNRollExpress will be inducted into the #WWEHOF Class of 2017 by @TheJimCornette!"
WWE last Monday announced that legendary manager Jim Cornette will be inducting The Rock-N-Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame. Cornette is considered to be one of the biggest rivals for The Rock-N-Roll Express, managing The Midnight Express in an epic feud between the two teams and later The Heavenly Bodies. “I said these horrible, degrading things about these two, fine, young, upstanding examples of American boyhood,” Cornette told WWE.com. “And people, on numerous occasions, tried to kill us,” he added. “Between the ’80s with The Midnight Express and the ’90s with The Heavenly Bodies, and then in the 2000s on the reunions with The Midnights, I think only Bobo Brazil and The Sheik had a longer-running rivalry,” Cornette said. “And I still haven’t put an end to Rock-N-Roll! I haven’t been able to do it, so I guess I have to roll over and induct them.” Jim Cornette’s last appearance on WWE television was at WrestleMania X-Seven. He was fired from the WWE in July 2005.
Lots of talk about Jim Cornette inducting The Rock-N-Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame. It was obviously the right move for the circumstances. Cornette had made it clear he was never against doing it so it wasn't as if they had to talk him into it. It was always the WWE's call.
Natalya has been selected to induct Beth Phoenix into the WWE Hall of Fame next week. Natalya teamed up with Phoenix in 2011 and the two formed the Divas of Doom alliance. They are big friends in real life, and Phoenix noted it on Twitter. “When it comes to friends, she is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. @NatbyNature thank you,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #DOD4Ever. This is the second time that Natalya will be inducting someone in the Hall of Fame. On the eve of WrestleMania 31, she inducted Alundra Blayze.
When talking about WrestleMania 33 on Edge & Christian’s new podcast, Goldberg said they are going to have a “knock down, drag out blood fest”, because they are going to be working without constraints. Goldberg added WWE has limited them in their past couple encounters so as to build fan interest in the WrestleMania match, and to play off the nostalgia of Goldberg’s WCW character.
Fans in Brooklyn, NY started chanting “No! No! No!” before Foley even announced that he is leaving his position as RAW General Manager last Monday on RAW. “Effective immediately, I am taking a leave of absence,” Foley said in the middle of the ring reading off index cards. And then, the hardcore legend tore up the index cards and went into a bit of a Cactus Jack mode, reminding everyone that he is “Mick freakin’ Foley” to a big pop from the crowd. With his mic getting cut off, Stephanie McMahon marched down to the ring and told Foley that she has two words for him, and doing her best imitation of her father, she fired Foley from his job. “Thank you @WWEUniverse for the privilege of being part of your Monday nights. Thanks for all the kind words. I leave #RAW knowing that I really tried to make a difference,” Foley wrote on Twitter after the show was over. The rumors are that Kurt Angle will be taking over the RAW General Manager role after WrestleMania as Foley goes away to undergo his much-needed hip replacement surgery. There are also rumors that WWE has no plans of using Foley after he recovers from surgery.
In a recent interview on the "Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast", A. J. Styles said about Samoa Joe “I knew he should be in WWE a long time ago. The guy can do it all. For his size, he shouldn’t be able to move the way he does. It really makes me angry. The guy’s an unbelievable athlete and he’s also great on the microphone, so there’s nothing Samoa Joe can’t do and he gets to come here and be Samoa Joe. Now, to tell you the truth, Samoa Joe is the one who got this thing started for everybody because he was at NXT first, so it wasn’t necessarily me that got it started. It was Joe and Joe went in there and proved that he can mix it up with anybody and have great matches and have a good attitude, most importantly.”
There is a new WWE stable being considered and may be forming after WrestleMania. The stable is rumored to consist of A. J. Styles, Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, and an unnamed 4th member. The angle is that the group band together to fight authority after being mistreated by RAW and SmackDown management.
Gail Kim tweeted about Stephanie McMahon crediting Triple H and WWE fans with the creation of the women's revolution, "My opinion is @IMPACTWRESTLING did. No shade just truth and my personal opinion. I never got my opportunity till then and it's never stopped."
At the "Rey de Reyes" show in Monterrey, Mexico, Jeff Jarrett was introduced during the show and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración announced they established a working agreement with Impact Wrestling. Also at the show, they unified all of their major singles titles in a three-way as Latin American Champion Johnny Mundo beat AAA Mega Heavyweight Champion El Texano, Jr. and AAA Cruiserweight Champion El Hijo del Fantasma and he now holds all three belts.
Jeff Jarrett, Ed Nordholm, Jeremy Borash, Karen Jarrett, and Rafael Morffi were all in Mexico last weekend to iron out a new deal with Asistencia Asesoría y Administración and watch the "Rey De Reyes" show. “Building bridges. Our alliance with AAA will bring the best of both promotions together,” said Nordholm, who is the Executive Vice President of Anthem Sports & Entertainment and the man leading the day-to-day operations at Impact Wrestling. Jarrett said that Impact Wrestling is looking forward to working with the Pro Wrestling NOAH, The Crash, AAA, and several other promotions over the next few months. The deal that Impact Wrestling is securing with these promotions will most likely lead to talent appearing on all promotions that they have a working relationship with. It’s not the first time that Impact has done similar deals. The Hardys had already appeared at The Crash and won the tag team titles and in 2014 the company held its "Bound For Glory" pay-per-view in Japan in association with the Wrestle-1 promotion.
Jeff Jarrett flew to the United Kingdom to announce that Impact Wrestling formed a strategic alliance with ITV Studios in England to bring back the World of Sports Wrestling show for a 10-part series. This will mark the return of WOS after its initial run ended 30 years ago. The show's first taping will be held on May 25 and 26 in Manchester, and is expected to include stars from England as well as Impact Wrestling.
Jack Swagger has made his first tweet since being granted his WWE release earlier this month. Responding to a fan-made tribute video, Swagger wrote that his “reign has just begun.” He tweeted: "Thank u. But "my reign has just begun" (dragon flys up from behind)".
More names added to the WrestleCon roster at WrestleMania include Jeff & Karen Jarrett, Moose, Kevin Sullivan, Shane Douglas, Tommy Rich, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Matt Morgan, King Mo Lawal, James Storm, Adam Rose and MVP.
WrestleCon is pushing that its March 30th WrestleMania kickoff party will be the first time Jim Ross, Sting, and Ric Flair have shared the same stage together for a Q&A. It takes place at 4pm on Thursday and is priced at $33.
Kevin Von Erich has been announced as being honoured by the Cauliflower Alley Club this year.
During this week’s "Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast", WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels revealed that WWE offered him a match at WrestleMania 33 against A. J. Styles, but HBK turned down the offer. Michaels said that WWE had no opponent for Styles for WrestleMania and approached him to step up. He refused the offer though, and Styles got Shane McMahon instead. HBK admitted that he only saw Styles wrestle once, against John Cena at the Royal Rumble, and said that he wished Styles was in the WWE ten years ago so he could have wrestled him then. The former WWE champion retired after losing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 and kept his word of not wrestling again even though he was offered to step back in the ring on numerous occasions. The man often referred to as Mr. WrestleMania also said that he will be in Orlando for the show and will be part of the Kickoff activities.
Bob Kapur of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "Mick Foley’s WrestleMania memories" which you can read by clicking here.
Dean Lambert suffered a head wound that required 7 stitches to close during his match wtih Nytronis A’Teo on Friday at MSWA. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
The funeral for wrestler Tom Jones took place in Amarillo, TX on Saturday. Family and friends gave speeches about him including Johnny Mantell and Terry Funk. It was in the same funeral home that held the Dennis Stamp funeral the previous week.
Jan Ross, wife of Jim Ross, was in an accident last week while she was riding her Vespa. She was hit from behind by an automobile. Unfortunately she was not wearing her helmet and sustained a brain injury and multiple skull fractures. A priest delivered last rites and she passed away on March 22nd. Oklafan extends condolences to Jim Ross and his family at this time.
Jim Ross tweeted that his wife Jan was an organ donor and that her lungs, liver, and kidneys have already found recipients after her passing.
Jim Ross today announced that despite the passing of his loving wife, he will be at WrestleMania-related festivities in Orlando, FL next week. “I’m eternally grateful for your support during these devastating days. Jan was my Angel & she loved WrestleMania week. See you in Orlando,” he wrote on Twitter. The WWE Hall of Famer will be hosting the WrestleCon Kickoff party at the Wyndham Orlando Resort Palms Room which will include a Q&A session with fellow Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Sting. He will also be signing autographs and posing for photos on Friday at WrestleCon. Ross will then host his Ringside shows on Saturday and Sunday at the Plaza LIVE Orlando starting at 2:30pm.
