NEWS
Brent Albright, who won the Lou Thesz Bracket of the NWA World Title Tournament, will face the winner of the Terry Funk Bracket, Claudio Castagnoli, on August 12th at the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest at the Hilton University Place Hotel in Charlotte, NC. The other two bracket winners, Adam Pearce of the Harley Race Bracket and Bryan Danielson of the Jack Brisco Bracket face one another on August 18th at an NWA Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling event in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The winner of the Albright-Castagnoli match will face the winner of the Pearce-Danielson match and the winner will be the new NWA World Champion. Time and place for the final match will be determined.

Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett had another round of meetings with FOX Network executives last week. If TNA works out a deal with FOX, they could be on multiple networks. TNA is of the mindset that they will have a two hour show this fall either on Spike TV or with whomever they sign a TV deal with. There is also talk of TNA producing a live TV show.

TNA's May pay-per-view "Sacrifice" will be released on DVD via ShopTNA.com in the next few weeks. Other new TNA items such as blankets and t-shirts for A. J. Styles and Tomko will be released soon as well.

Terry Taylor TNA's Director of Talent Relations, needs a third neck fusion. He also needs his knees replaced.

The latest blog from Jim Ross stated the following I am told the next WWE date in OKC’s Ford Center will be in June 2008. No dates in my home market the entire year of 2007. Bummer.

Sources have confirmed that Jerry "The King" Lawler has been served with papers from assault charges pending against him filed by Sal Corrente. Sal/Lawler are scheduled for an August 1, 2007 court date in Tunica County, MS.

Ric Flair had minor ear surgery and still wasn't able to fly early last week. That problem seems to have been overcome as Flair competed on the Smackdown International Tour in Singapore & Australia last weekend.

The internal feeling was that "Johnny Nitro" wasn't a serious ring name. Dusty Rhodes, Jen Hunt, Dave Lagana, among others, suggested new names to Vince McMahon. McMahon, of course, selected John Morrison.

WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes asked for his Texas bull rope match at the Great American Bash against Randy Orton to be short because of his limitations.

Roddy Piper was scheduled for the main event of the "Clash at the Cove" event in South Bend, IN. to team with Brutus Beefcake. Event organizer Brian Costello claimed before the match that Piper was there earlier in the day, said Piper is usually professional and always shows up, but had a family emergency and left.

Due to copyright issues, Barry Darsow was unable to use the "Smash" name when he competed at the National Wrestling Superstars event this Saturday. He was billed as "Slayer".

Besides the Irv Muchnick book about Chris Benoit tragedy (for ECW Press), two other books on the topic are being written. A shorter book (by Steve Johnson, Greg Oliver, Muchnick and Heath McCoy) will focus on things like the coverage of the story. Additionally, Scott Williams (who wrote the Terry Funk and Bill Watts books) is also writing a Benoit murder book.

Ted DiBiase Jr., the son of "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, has signed a WWE developmental deal and will be assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling in Tampa, FL. DiBiase Jr. had received rave reviews from his recent tour in Japan with the Pro Wrestling NOAH. Ted Sr. commented by saying "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Harley Race for all he's done for me over the course of most of my life. For those of you who don't know the story, it was Harley who tried to save my dad's life the night he died wrestling in Lubbock, Texas. Harley was one of the most prominent wrestlers instrumental in the success I've achieved over the course of my career. It was Harley Race who gave me my first big "Main Event", when I wrestled him to a one hour draw at the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis, while he was NWA World Champion. Harley also lobbied for me to one day get the NWA World Title, although that never came to pass."

TripleMania, promoted by AAA, drew 19,000 fans for a sell out at El Toreo in Naucalpan on 7/15. The show featured Lita performing with her band the Luchagors, as well as Sabu, Ron Killings, Rikishi, and Juventud Guerrera, among others.

Long time wrestling announcer Bill Mercer is set to release the book "Play-By-Play: Tales from a Sports Broadcasting Insider." Mercer also co-authored a book about the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

The SWCW Hardcore Title changed hands this past weekend in Arkansas. Kareem Sadat, who held the title, was wrestling Shane Sanchez when Shane's brother Kevin James Sanchez came out and broke Sadat's collarbone with a Kendo Stick resulting in Shane picking up the victory and winning the title due to the 24/7 rule. Sadat is now out of action for 6 to 8 weeks. No word on whether he will have to vacate the AACW Hardcore Title. Ironically Sadat used to be known as Jason Sanchez and was billed as Shane's brother when they tagged together and held the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles.
