NEWS
A few days ago, Rowdy Roddy Piper blamed Stone Cold Steve Austin for his removal from PodcastOne, the company which hosted his podcast. Piper had actor and wrestling fan Will Sasso on doing Austin impersonations and after the show aired it was soon removed from PodcastOne for good. Piper said that Austin complained to PodcastOne and had the show taken off the air. However Austin addressed these rumors on his show, which is one of the most popular on PodcastOne, and shot down Piper?s claims, saying that he has no time for any of this crap at 50 years of age. Austin said that he called Kit Gray, the President of PodcastOne, to get the truth on the story and Gray told him that Piper requested a meeting with him and said that he no longer wanted to be part of the PodcastOne family so Piper left. Austin added that there are no hard feelings against Piper but the accusations he made were false. Piper uploaded his latest podcast episode on Soundcloud.com. On Ric Flair's Podcast, "Woooo Nation", the Nature Boy brought up the topic of Piper requesting to be released from his contract with PodcastOne. Flair also noted that the WWE took away Roddys Legends Contract due the rumored issues between Piper and Austin.
Telling fans that his ?honor is not for sale,? WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper said that the issue with Stone Cold Steve Austin will be ?cleared up and gone? after he releases his next podcast. Piper blamed Austin for kicking him out of the PodcastOne family while Austin said that according to PodcastOne President, Piper was the one who asked for his release during a meeting and that he had absolutely nothing to do with getting him booted off the network. Piper?s story was that Austin apparently got offended by Will Sasso?s impersonations of him while he was on Piper?s show and was so pissed off that he complained to PodcastOne and Piper?s show was off the air the same day. In reply, Austin said that at 50 years of age he has no time for this drama and he wasn?t the one who kicked Piper out. Meanwhile, a report on PWInsider.com said that Ric Flair, who has another podcast on competitor Play. It, noted that Roddy Piper was dropped from the WWE Legends deal that he had due to the the problems he?s having with Steve Austin.
In his latest podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper told his version of the story about his ?altercation? with Steve Austin that eventually led to his departure from the PodcastOne family. The backstory involves actor Will Sasso, who was on Piper?s show, doing impersonation of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin apparently didn?t like what was said and complained to PodcastOne who in return took down not only that particular podcast, but all of Piper?s archives. Piper said that he didn?t want to
offend anyone and the impersonation was not meant in that way, adding that there ?was a lot of love in it.? Rowdy said that when he spoke to the PodcastOne chief, he was told that he could not talk about Steve Austin anymore on his shows and since this was one form of censorship, he decided he didn?t want to partner up with PodcastOne anymore. ?I didn?t mean to offend you in any way, and I still don?t see it,? Roddy said in words directed at fellow Hall of Famer Steve Austin. He apologized if he got
offended and said that he still has all the respect in the world for him for all he did in the business. Austin in his podcast said that Piper lied and it was him who wanted out of the PodcastOne deal and he did nothing to kick Piper off. ?I don?t want to deal with it anymore. Okay? So I?m done with it, I didn?t lie about anything, and my heart is in the right place in my life,? Piper concluded. Piper addressed all this during the beginning of his new podcast which is now hosted on Soundcloud.com. Lanny
Poffo is his guest for this week.
According to WWE, Roddy Piper has not been released from his legends deal.
In a recent interview, Ric Flair defended Vince Russo in regard to WCW's demise. Flair said that Russo wasn't responsible for the company's death and that the company was on its way out by the time Russo had arrived. Russo has now written a blog commenting on Flair's remarks. Here is an excerpt of that blog: "It was only recently that Ric Flair went on that same talk show in the UK and was asked the question, 'Did Vince Russo kill WCW.' Truthfully, I had no idea this interview even took place, until somebody told me about it on twitter. When told that I should look at the video and see 'what Flair said'. I about threw up in my Taxi wastepaper basket. In my heart, of hearts, I knew, that if the iconic Ric Flair feel into the trap of placing the smoking gun in my hand whether it was the truth, or not this would be the final vindication that all my haters needed to just put me in the hole and throw the dirt on top. In their minds, if FLAIR said it then it must be true. So Ric was asked the same question I was in the same exact studio I was only a few short months later. In putting in my ear buds I was expecting the worst. In my business you just 'assume' that everybody is going to pile on when it is the sheik thing to do. But on this day . . . Ric Flair didn't buy in. Flair quickly put the kibosh on the interviewers question when he said that WCW was dead 'long before Russo got there', and all he, Russo, was trying to do was 'survive' like the rest of us.
The GFW-TNA invasion angle is expected to kick off at the July 22nd "Impact Wrestling" episode, which will air on a slight tape delay, and continue through that week?s tapings and the July 24th Global Force Wrestling TV tapings from Las Vegas, NV where the first GFW Heavyweight Champion and GFW Women?s Champion will be crowned with tournaments. Eric Young, Bobby Roode, and other TNA stars are being sent to the GFW TV tapings for the angle. Young also worked last weekend?s GFW live events to confront Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett wanted Matt Hardy to be one of the TNA stars sent for the angle but at last word the deal wasn?t confirmed yet. GFW stars confirmed for the GFW tapings include P. J. Black (Justin Gabriel), Nick Aldis (Magnus), Chris Mordetzky (Chris Masters), IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Kushida, Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, Sanada, Mickie James and Lei?D Tapa. It is possible some of these GFW stars will work the TNA tapings that week.
Regarding rumors of Jeff Jarrett working with country music star Toby Keith, who was rumored to be buying into TNA at one point, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that Keith has told Jarrett he will help with financing GFW only if Jarrett can accomplish a certain thing. It is not known exactly what that term is but it?s likely a TV deal.
Jeff Jarrett?s Global Force Wrestling announced that their proposed television show will be titled Amped and that?s the name they will be using for the upcoming television tapings. GFW has three dates booked at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas - July 24, August 21, and October 31 - where they will tape their television shows which will be used to sell to potential networks. The Orleans Arena is located inside The Orleans Hotel & Casino. Global Force Wrestling will film a full season of weekly episodic programming during these three dates and the Orleans Arena website says that 4 GFW championships will be decided. Jarrett will take the King of the Mountain TNA title to the show as well. Tickets start at just $30 and can be purchased at OrleansArena.com.
Eric Young attacked Jeff Jarrett in an angle at the TNA show Thursday night in Appleton, WI. Young came out and wanted Jarrett. Jarrett said he?d give him a match on the show, but Young didn?t want that. He attacked Jarrett and stole the King of the Mountain belt, saying he was bringing it back to where it belonged.
Former WCW and WWE referee Mickey Jay joined the "In the Room" podcast on July 7th with Brady Hicks, former WCW wrestler The Stro, Kathie Fitzpatrick, Derrick McDonald, and Jordan Garber. When asked to compare Vince McMahon and Dusty Rhodes as Bookers, he said "Vince does things the way he wants them to go, and they go his way. If they don?t, you?re not there ? Dusty would call you on something. If you didn?t do it right, he would let you know. He had such a way of letting you know that you remembered. It wasn?t like he?d just bring you into the office and curse you out. He would bring you in, sit you down, and explain to you what you did wrong, and why ? if you ever do it wrong again ? you won?t be here to do it wrong again." To listen to the entire podcast, go to VOCNation.com and TheBradyHicks.com.
Steve Yohe has a book on the life of Ed "Strangler" Lewis, one of the biggest stars in wrestling history (probably top 20 of all-time in importance) that will be coming out very soon.
