The Scoop

The Scoop

Posted: Jun 3rd 2014 By: Oklafan Staff

NEWS
Lars Manderson was one of Adam Rose's "Rosebuds" on last week's "WWE Monday Night RAW" in Knoxville, TN and "WWE Friday Night SmackDown!" in Atlanta, GA.

Jake Roberts posted on Twitter after working indie events in Oregon this past weekend ?Portland and Salem both great shows so good to c old friends. I was so lucky to b chosen by Wwe and get over. A career above most.Grateful, blessed and timing that allowed me to fly higher than I ever dreamed. Most guys never got the shot. Still amazed?

Ric Flair, Scott Hall, and Jake ?The Snake? Roberts, were all at the Smackdown tapings last Tuesday in Atlanta, GA as all live in the area. This was the first time backstage for Hall and Roberts since WrestleMania XXX weekend, where both of them were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2014. It is believed that the two also shot some footage for the WWE Network that will be used for future broadcasts. Accompanying Scott Hall was his son Cody, who also a professional wrestler. Flair is expected to rejoin WWE on a full time basis once he passes all the medical tests required. It?s believed that he will assume the role of a manager of someone who is yet to be decided. Flair was at NXT's "Takeover" event last week in the corner of his daughter Charlotte.

As of last Monday, Ric Flair still had not been to Pittsburgh, PA for WWE?s medical tests that are required before he can be brought back as a regular on-air talent. One source believed that Flair could still be dealing with the blood clot in his leg. WWE doesn?t allow their active performers to use blood thinners so that could be a problem. For what it?s worth, it was mentioned in Flair?s new interview with Mike Mooneyham that his blood clot issue had ?cleared up.?

WWE writer Michael Hayes delivered a ?go home? speech to the WWE NXT talents before last week's "Takeover" event.

It?s becoming somewhat of a regular thing, but WWE officials have been very upset with Roddy Piper lately. The heat may come from Piper?s recent comments about Pat Patterson on a Kayfabe Commentaries DVD or could be from some of the negative comments he?s made about "Legends House" on social media and while doing promotion for the show.

Jerry Lawler appears on the Svengoolie show on ME-TV on June 7th at 10pm. The show also airs on WCIU in Chicago. Svengoolie is a longtime wrestling fan. Check local listings for time in your area.

Mick Foley did a comedy show in Jacksonville, FL last week and received boos from the crowd when he brought up The Undertaker losing at WrestleMania XXX. Foley said Brock Lesnar was the perfect guy to end The Streak because whoever did end it was going to get a lot of heat on them but that wouldn?t bother Lesnar. Foley said nobody cares less about what people in or out of the business think of him than Lesnar.

Mick Foley made 3 Twitter posts regarding last night's RAW. He posted ?I think @DaveBautista channeled a little @CMPunk for his farewell promo. #RAW?. He praised John Cena for his promo, ?Excellent promo by @JohnCena. Say what you want about him, but the man definitely gets his points accross. #RawIndianapolis?, and finally he commented on Seth Rollins' turn against The Shield "I think @WWERollins is going to have a great run with #Evolution in @WWE. Impressive work with that chair last night."

TNA announced Ross & Marshall Von Erich, the two sons of Kevin Von Erich, will debut with the group at "Slammiversary" on June 15th in Arlington, TX. It's Father's Day, so Kevin will be at the show. The brothers have worked in the past for Pro Wrestling NOAH and were trained by Harley Race. Ross Adkisson, when he was younger, looked like Kerry and was a very good high school football player.

PWMania.com reported that WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Von Erich will be appearing at TNA?s "Slammiversary" pay-per-view with his sons, wrestlers Ross and Marshall Von Erich. Kevin will actually accompany his sons to the ring at "Slammiversary" for their tag match. Ross and Marshall were both trained by WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race and have trained and competed at the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo in Japan. Kevin said the following to TNA?s website ?Seeing my boys enter the ring on Father?s Day will be one of the proudest moments of my life. I am looking forward to it and looking forwarding to being back in the Dallas area. I now understand how my father felt when me and my brothers entered the ring.?

There is a story at LiverKick.com talking about Andy Hug, building stars and somehow compared it with The Fabulous Freebirds vs. The Von Erichs feud in Dallas, TX. The tie in is that K-1 and World Class Championship Wrestling were successful revolving around a small cast of characters that everyone knew, and how the current MMA scene with so many fighters doesn't have that.

Dan Murphy posted a video entitled "One Beer With...Cheerleader Melissa" which was taped in Las Vegas, NV during the Cauliflower Alley Convention. You can see the video by clicking here.

Bob Orton, Jr. wrestled in front of 10 fans on May 24th at a local independent wrestling show. He ended up taking more photos with wrestlers than with fans. The promoter, who did pay Orton, came out and cut a heel promo saying that there are too many indie promotions. His promo contained adult language when there was a few kids in attendance among the 10.

Tommy Dreamer and Lisa Marie Varon (AKA Victoria in WWE and Tara in TNA) were both surprise guests at Jim Ross' one-man show at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL last weekend.

Jim Ross talks his boxing commentary debut on FS1 last week on a video you can see by clicking here.

Comedian Norm MacDonald had Adam Sandler on his podcast and they started talking about wrestling. Sandler said that MacDonald always wanted to be the Fred Blassie of comedy. MacDonald talked about growing up watching Eduoard Carpentier vs. Mad Dog Vachon and Sandler said he remembers going to a show in Manchester, NH and seeing Toru Tanaka & Mr Fuji go against Andre the Giant.

Bill Goldberg was at the Caged Warrior Combat show in Tacoma, WA on Saturday night. One of the fighters, Andy Paves, after winning, did Goldberg's arms-spread tongue out gimmick in front of him and Goldberg applauded. It was noted that unlike most celebrities at local MMA shows, he wasn't constantly checking his phones and he watched every fight intently, was happy to take photos with fans between fights.

Time.com compiled a list of the "Most Obsessed Over People" on the web. It was based largely on the length of their Wikipedias, and wrestlers have huge ones because of all the updates on their weekly storylines. Those in the top 100 were Hulk Hogan (17), The Big Show (24), John Cena (34), The Undertaker (35), Kane (38), Kurt Angle (47), Dwayne Johnson (50), C. M. Punk (56), Bret Hart (57), Chris Jericho (71), Edge (73), Rey Mysterio (81), Rob Van Dam (83), Triple H (86) and Ric Flair (94). It's one of those lists that means absolutely nothing, like the Maxim list from last week.

Deadspin has posted a video of spelling bee contestants running towards the stage to Ultimate Warrior's theme music. You can see the video by clicking here.

CBC News in Canada reports that a judge ruled earlier today that WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher must pay indie wrestler Devon Nicholson $2.3 million in damages. Nicholson sued Abdullah and claimed that he contracted Hepatitis C from the wrestling legend after a bloody match in 2007. Abdullah allegedly bladed Nicholson without his consent. Abdullah has publicly denied he has the disease and has 30 days to appeal. To read CBC's story, click here.

WWE.com posted a story entitled "19 Superstars you didn't know were related" and among those listed was The Honky Tonk Man is Jerry "The King" Lawler's cousin, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine is Brian Knobbs' brother-in-law, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy is Slam Master J's father, Sam Houston is Jake "The Snake" Roberts' brother; Rockin' Robin is his sister, and Dusty Rhodes is Jerry Sags' brother-in-law. To read the entire story, click here.

Marshall Ward of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "Terry Taylor's lifetime in wrestling celebrated with industry's top award" which you can read by clicking here.

Oklafan extends its condolences to The Compact King on the passing of his father last week.
