JR's Blog: @GoldenBoyBoxing, @FoxSports1, Ross Report Podcast #1, CM Punk, Owen Hart, Cauliflower Alley Club
Posted: May 24th 2014 By: Jim Ross
Greetings all from Norman, Oklahoma home of the Oklahoma Sooners. What a week I've had and the next 8 days are going to be memorable to say the least. Here's more....
Been doing ample preparation for this Monday's Fox Sports 1 and Golden Boy Promotions boxing event that emanates from Ft Bliss, Texas live at 9 pm eastern time. This is a new adventure in the continuing process of reinventing myself after 40 years in the pro wrestling business. I'm grateful to @GoldenBoyBoxing and @FoxSports1 for providing this unique opportunity and hope that you will tune in and/or DVR the event. Sitting ringside on a Monday night isn't any thing new for me but calling a professional boxing event is and is something that I can't wait to do.
One week from Saturday, May 31, at 2 pm I will take our RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross show to Chicago's House of Blues for one show only. The doors open at noon for the VIP ticket holders who get a special meet and greet, autograph and photo opportunity. Regular ticket holder's doors are at 1 pm with the show starting promptly at 2 pm. Marty DeRosa is the MC and I look forward to working with him. There will be plenty of JR's products available there as well which will get you ready for grilling season without paying shipping charges plus prowrestlingtees.com will have some new JR's tees at the merch table.
Tickets for the Chicago show are available at ticketmaster.com and will also most definitely be available at the door the day of the show.
After the show we will move to the Squared Circle Restaurant for some great food and fun. Can't wait to have a Slobber-Knocker pizza among many of the other sinfully good items from their famous menu. Lisa Varon is one of my all time favorite people and one of the best Divas we ever had in WWE and would get my Hall of Fame vote any time.
Speaking of divas, I had a great chat with Trish Stratus this week and she and Amy Dumas aka Lita are contemplating doing some two women shows in the future. I'd love to see them do a Q&A as they would bring a different dynamic to the game without question.
Check out @Goldberg new podcast on podcastone.com which starts today (Friday) with guests Tony Steward and yours truly.
Thanks to those of you who made this week's Ross Report the #1 ranked podcast on ITunes top 300 sports podcasts. There is no way this happens without the amazing support our fans provide us. Please know that I am very grateful.
I had a great time on @UFCTonight Wednesday night with @sonnench and @KennyFlorian. The show airs every Wednesday on @FoxSports1 and is all things UFC. UFC PPV this weekend from Vegas that I will be investing in for sure.
Seems like many members of the IWC have become stock analysts. Where were you when I was evaluating my portfolio? I am NOT a stock analyst but I do honestly feel that WWE stock will eventually, and that's sooner than later, be a solid, long term investment for those who partake in the market.
Even though I express my opinions, I stress 'opinions,' on a variety of topics in wrestling each week on our podcast, I frequently get negative Tweets @JRsBBQ from Impact Wrestling fans. Please don't be pet coon goofy and think that I'm not pulling for that organization to be successful because I am. They have some talents that I would have loved to have worked with back in the day and feel that if Impact Wrestling can carve out a unique niche within the genre that they can become more relevant and thus more profitable.
WWE is the big dog in the yard and if you want your "dogs" or "puppies" (hat's off to @JerryLawler) to be noticed then they have to be a different than the big dog.
If fans don't tune into any pro wrestling show to not primarily watch in the ring action then why do they tune in? To see undiscovered dramatic actors or unknown comics? I don't think so. Drama can and should be in place as well as comedic moments on these TV shows but they need to happen organically.
Anyone who actually thinks that a scripted promo turns into great entertainment with the majority of talents isn't watching what I am. Some talents can pull off getting their script the day of the shoot and then hitting it out of the park but most can't and it isn't fair to them or the TV audience to think that this system of over management and over producing works. It doesn't.
Hard to believe that it's been 15 years since the most impactful day of my career occurred when Owen Hart fell to his death at the Over the Edge PPV WWE produced in Kansas City. There isn't a day that seemingly goes by that I don't think about Owen and that tragic accident in some way. I will never be able to write an autobiography without talking about that night and I dread going back and watching it to be able to better write about it. I have yet to see a single second of footage from that event to this very day. Hopefully, Owen will take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame some day and I can only hope that I am around to see it happen.
I was asked today by the Chicago Tribune if @CMPunk deserved to be in the top 25 of the all time great wrestlers. I said that all these "All Time Top" whatever lists are overly subjective but my list would be the talents who I would want in my company if I owned a wrestling organization. By the way, that will never, EVER, happen. Nonetheless, I'd absolutely want Punk on my team so therefore under my criteria he's a top 25 guy. He's too versatile, too skilled, an excellent hero or villain, can talk, has a great work ethic and is one of the smarter minds I've been around.
I was also asked if CM Punk abruptly leaving WWE would adversely affect his legacy. My answer, a simple "Hell, no."
Remember that you can obtain JR's products online from wweshop.com. americansoda.co.uk and beyondtheropes.co.uk.
http://www.prowrestlingtees.com/jimross is the place to visit to see all the great merch that they have with the largest selection of Tee Shirts in the world, or so it seems.
Do me a favor and check out http://www.caulifloweralleyclub.org to see all the wonderful things that this organization does and please consider joining the club. Their annual convention is coming up soon in Vegas of which I will be attending.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you will take the time to visit our Q&A section of the site.
