JR's Blog: RAW Must Deliver Tonight, #WWERoyalRumble, NFL Picks, Anderson Silva & 1 More Fight, Big E, What I Need From Bryan/Wyatt Storyline
Posted: Jan 14th 2014 By: CMBurnham
Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by. Be sure and check out the new, JR's packages, many that are under $10, at http://www.wweshop.com. Let's roll...
Big night for WWE to deliver a major hit on Monday Night RAW. The Royal Rumble is slowly creeping up on everyone. There is still no bigger match than the Rumble match itself at this event. As many of the 30 entrants need to be talking about it.
The reality of winning the Rumble match is massive within the storyline structure of WWE as it guarantees the winner a main event for the most prestigious WWE championship at the most massive event of the year, WrestleMania 30. How can that not be presented as any thing but huge within the body of the broadcast.
Theoretically, winning the Royal Rumble can be a career changer for any superstar. That's witty banter material for sure.
I assume because they are involved in one on one bouts that Cena, Orton, Show and Lesnar will not be in the Rumble match but that's merely speculation. If that statement is true, I'd not be too far out on a limp to predict Batista as the early Rumble favorite.
I'm expecting a handful of 'surprise entrants' to the Rumble but that's, again, my own speculation. Just feels like it is needed and that it is timely.
Getting some Rumble entrant rivalries established and heated up tonight on RAW feels essential. The beginnings of some of these personal issues are already in place.
Before I forget, I really enjoyed watching the Orton-Langston match Friday night on Smackdown. Big E more than held his own vs. the veteran and current top titleholder Mr. RKO. I've long said that Big E is a keeper and a high character former D1 athlete and high school state champion wrestler notwithstanding his power lifting accolades. The most important character trait for 'E' is his reliability and intelligence. I'd be shocked if he ever put himself in a position to embarrass himself or his employer.
As a fan, I need to hear and see more applicable content on the Daniel Bryan/Wyatt Family storyline. I know that particular entity is seemingly being depended upon within WWE in a big way but their storyline needs a timely update and some new info. I am interested in their story but facets of it are not moving the needle for me just yet.
Please tell me why these TV persona's hooked up. It's got to be more than the beards or the Duck Dynasty dudes would be involved, right?
I'd also expect the Shield storyline to see another log thrown on the fire. Even though Roman Reigns is apparently the first 'it' guy to about to break out of the Shield, I still am solid that all three Shield members bring something different to the presentation and will all be main line players in time.
Still think that Anderson Silva hasn't had his last UFC fight. The promoter in me would consider a Brazil stadium show featuring him vs. a competitive American fighter in 2015. UFC must continue to build stars and build them quicky so being able to build an event around the returning and perhaps retiring Anderson 'Spider' Silva has validity if Mother Nature and Father Time cooperate.
Early, NFL Playoff gut feeling: Denver at home over New England and the 49ers upset Seahawks in Seattle. You will not see two more physically intense games or a more combative atmosphere this side of the Super Bowl than this weekend. My picks are harmless, by the way, and I don't wager but someone will read this and take offense that I picked against their favorites. To that I say, "Go to your room!"
Our partners in the UK, http://www.americansoda.co.uk and http://www.beyondtheropes.co.uk are still working with us and are awaiting a shipment of JR's from the States. Plus, we might just be adding a new item, JR's All Purpose Seasoning! Stay tuned.
Got a great story on the King regarding tonight's venue for RAW in Providence, Rhode Island and the Dunkin' Donuts Arena...and it isn't' about pastries. But it does involve a young woman to no one's shock. I'll save this one for 'RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross' which debuts in the USA on Saturday March 1 at the Gramercy Theater in New York City with two shows. Tickets are moving fast at the box office and at Ticketmaster. com.
Got an overwhelming amount of feedback on the tongue in cheek piece that I did for FoxSports.com this weekend on the Flair/49ers/Panthers controversy. Thanks to all that read it and enjoyed it.
Busy week here on a variety of fronts. Lots of balls up in the air that can hopefully be 'caught' this week as we continue to move forward on a variety of projects.
Caught up on some of last week's pro wrestling and one glaring matter that stands out is that many talents, who should be better, are not seemingly progressing in the verbal skills arena. If one is forced to memorize a scripted, in ring presentation, then it better damn well not sound memorized unless one's goal is to disconnect with the audience. Some talents even seemed to change their natural cadence when going the memorization route.
Follow me on Twitter @JRsBBQ and join north of 1M of your closest friends. I hope to have info later today on 'RINGSIDE' shows in New Orleans during WM30 week and if I do I will tweet it.
The Q&A's are updated here on the site. I used as many as made sense or were not recent repeats. Someone blasted the Q&A's on Twitter likely because I did not answer his question or the fact that I am succinct when responding.
Succinct because of time restrains but always honest.
Remember to tag in http://www.wweshop.com for the new, JR's packages that start at under $10 and include signed artwork from the fabulous Rob Schamberger. I personally signed both sides of the thank you card with Rob's art included.
Thanks for the visit.
