WWE News: Top Contenders for Entry into Hall of Fame
Posted: Dec 29th 2012 By: mikeiles
Discussions continue regarding which legendary wrestlers should be granted entry into the WWE Hall of Fame, as detailed by Justin LaBar of Wrestlezone.com.
LaBar lists a handful of hopefuls for the Hall, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Mick Foley and tag teams Harlem Heat and The Nasty Boys.
The Rock is possibly the most famous of that group, thanks to his acting career as well as his legendary wrestling career. In a career filled with highlights, perhaps the brightest is when he dropped Stone Cold Steve Austin in the last match of Austin's career.
LaBar considers Foley the most prominent front-runner, though, pointing to Foley's recent involvement with WWE and his relationship with the city of New York. Foley was always entertaining, at one point entering a 30-man battle royale under three separate personas. Foley finally won a championship as Mankind, defeating the Rock in 1999.
Harlem Heat, a tag team of brothers Booker and Lash Huffman, were former champions and regular draws for WWE.
The Nasty Boys, likewise, the team of Brian Knobs and Jerry Sags, were well known draws, bringing a darker, less flamboyant edge to professional wrestling. The Nasty Boys are also known for some off-stage drama, something that could hurt their chances.
LaBar lists a few other contenders, including Owen Hart and Bruno Sammartino. Hart is unlikely due to his widow's bitter relationship with WWE, while Sammartino has been critical of the WWE brand of late. Both would be a surprise.
My colleague Jersey Strong Jay also gives an eloquent defense of New World Order's chance for the Hall. This seems unlikely, though nWo is probably as deserving as any other candidate.
The list of candidates is long, and only a few can get in the Hall. The Rock and Foley are both sure-fire Hall of Famers at some point in the future, and now is as good a time as any.
