Jack Swagger: 3 Reasons WWE Superstar Is Due for a Free Fall
Posted: Jun 19th 2012 By: mikeiles
Jack Swagger is one of the many Superstars who has drastically fallen from the graces of success in the WWE over the past two years.
He went from being WrestleMania's Mr. Money in the Bank and a World Heavyweight Champion to having to force his way into a pairing with Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero in order to become relevant again. Unfortunately for the All-American American, it has not worked out to well for him thus far.
Essentially, he is well on his way to possibly becoming Future Endeavored. If he does make it past this next round of cuts, he will be lucky to be featured on regular television again, maybe for the remainder of his career in the WWE.
Swagger has the tools to be a great talent, yet he is not utilized in a way to make him the star he could be. He's on his way to being one of the most useless talents in the WWE for a number of reasons.
While it may not be right, it's the sad truth of the matter. There are many reasons for his inevitable downfall.
Here are a few of the reasons in question:
Playing Second Fiddle to Dolph Ziggler
In his pairing with Ziggler and Guerrero, it is safe to say that Swagger is the least important member of the group.
Swagger had his own form of success but was in a recent struggle to retain it, so he convinced Vickie to take him on as a client along with Ziggler. Reluctant, Ziggler finally gave in and accepted Swagger into their group.
At first, the tag team pairing performed well together but they could never come with the a Tag Team Championship victory over Kofi Kingston and his partners of Evan Bourne and R-Truth.
While in the background Ziggler was quietly challenging for world titles, Swagger won the United States championship from a weak and injured Zack Ryder before dropping the strap to Santino Marella.
From there, Ziggler continued to perform in the highlight matches while Swagger struggled to get onto pay-per-view cards. Swagger also reverted back to his jobber status on both Raw and Smackdown.
Swagger was always going to be the second fiddle in the trio of him, Vickie and Dolph so it should not be much of a surprise that this is the scenario being played out. Swagger and Dolph need to separate from each other in order to possibly regain relevance in the WWE.
Diminishing Credibility
Not that Santino Marella is a bad wrestler, but a feud with him over the United States Championship and losing in the fashion in which he did is what has really set Swagger's downfall in motion.
Losing the title to Santino was more or less a way for Marella to get over with the crowd while also giving him a championship reign many felt he deserved.
However, it is unfortunate that a great competitor such as Swagger was the one that had to fall onto the grenade in order to set the Santino push in full gear.
Since losing the United States title, Swagger has done little of anything except for a few tag team matches with Ziggler, all of which they lost, causing Dolph to ask out of the pairing.
Swagger's credibility was shot as soon as he dropped the belt to Santino, but it was even worse the way he won the championship in the first place over Ryder.
Even if Swagger were to suddenly start winning a few singles matches here and there, nobody would be able to take him seriously as a competitor.
Again, another sad occurrence for one of the best pure wrestlers in the business.
Mid-Card Scene Is Irrelevant as a Whole
The sad fact is that Swagger is among the many mid-card Superstars that have little to no hope of every being in the spotlight anymore.
We are far removed from the days where they mid-carders received any sort of attention even if they hold either the Intercontinental Championship or the United States Championship.
It's even hard to pinpoint exactly where it all started to fall apart, but it is something worth noting when taking into account Swagger's potential success.
Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and Swagger are all in the mid-card scene and have struggle greatly to get out and into bigger and better things. Each one has great ability in the ring and on the mic, yet none have been given the proper push to elevate their careers.
Regardless, because Swagger is mixed in the mid-card group of athletes, he stands little chance when it comes to being a big-time player. These are vital things that will keep him from ever being a major success.
In Closing
We may never see Swagger holding the gold that he is in this picture. He can say, however, that he is a former World Heavyweight Champion, but that is about it when it comes to overall career success, he has very little to be proud of.
His career has been floundering for a number of years and will continue to do so until the WWE finally decides to cut its losses and eventually release the man. He's not the only one who little hope for the future, but he is one of the biggest names to face a potential release from the company.
It's unfortunate and sad to think somebody with his abilities and talents could be let go because they have no direction for him. Sad, but that's how it goes in the WWE today.
It was nice knowing you while it lasted, Swagger. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
