News:
Former WCW & WWE Superstar and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg makes his prime time television debut, guest starring on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" Tuesday, February 6th at 9pm central time. Goldberg guest stars as Cupid, a crazed convict.
On Monday January 22nd, WWE RAW wrestlers Jim Duggan and Ron Simmons visited the seventh graders in Kimberly English's class at Paul Breaux Middle School as part of their Get R.E.A.L. program.
In the new WWE magazine with John Cena on the cover, there is an interview with the Bull of the Woods, Dusty Rhodes, and the age old mystery is finally been solved... That's right, WWE magazine asked Dusty about the big splotch on his stomach, and he states that it has been with him since he left his "Momma's womb". It's a birth mark.
Chicago Bears guard Ruben Brown distributed T-shirts the first week of January and on the back were the words "Space Mountain". It was originally thought that the message was as long as the Bears will be in Florida to play in the Super Bowl, they plan on taking the winner's trip to Disney World. As it turns out, Ric Flair is the real reason behind all of the "Space Mountain" talk in the Bears locker room. Brown and the rest of the linemen are wrestling fans. Flair has been known to call himself Space Mountain because he claims it?s "the oldest ride in the park, but it's still got the longest line." Flair was on the Bears sidelines during their 39-14 win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game.
It is interesting to note that both Charlie Haas and Joey Mercury were not entered in the Royal Rumble but their respective tag team partners (Shelton Benjamin and Johnny Nitro) both were entered.
WWE posted an article noting that Raw commentator Jerry "The King" Lawler will draw Superman for an upcoming web project at DCComics.com. In the story, The King states that its ?the fulfillment of a lifelong fantasy.?
"Born to Controversy: The Roddy Piper Story" debuts on WWE Fanatics PPV on February 1st. "The Spectacular Legacy of AWA" debuts on March 1st.
Mick Foley was voted the 2006 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Best on Interviews. He edged out Edge, and Konnan. WWE champion John Cena was voted the Most Charismatic.
It is interesting to note that WWE's developmental feds has more than a few wrestlers that have some sort of local ties on their rosters. Deep South Wrestling has Ray Gordy (son of Terry Gordy) and Afa Jr. (son of Afa of The Wild Samoans). Ohio Valley Wrestling has Beth Phoenix (originally billed as Brent Albright's cousin), Cody Runnels (son of Dusty Rhodes), and Jake Hager (native of Perry, OK and a former heavyweight wrestler at the University of Oklahoma).
The sons of Ted DiBiase, Mike & Ted Jr., are on their way to the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo in Japan.
TNA has been wanting to do Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) vs. The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner) for a long time, but due to Scott's contract issues the timing has never worked out.
Dutch Mantel, Vince Russo and Jeff Jarrett have asked Mike Tenay to rejoin the booking committee. They have also asked Jim Cornette to join the committee and Cornette has agreed in principle but they haven't come to a deal over money yet.
Morale is down again in the TNA locker room. There is now a real divide between the star group (Kevin Nash, Sting, Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett) and the rest of the roster. The star group not only gets more money, but also has a seperate dressing room from the rest of the workers
Hector Guerrero was seen backstage at TNA's "Final Resolution" pay-per-view on January 14th. Also seen backstage were Romeo Roselli & Antonio Thomas formerly known as The Heart Throbs in WWE. Roselli & Thomas were seen speaking at length with Terry Taylor, Vince Russo, and Jeff Jarrett.
Bam Bam Bigelow's death was mentioned on the ticker at the bottom of CNN Wednesday night. Phil Mushnick in the New York Post briefly mentioned the death of Bam Bam Bigelow and noted that in the end, nobody will care.
WWE has a tribute video to Bam Bam Bigelow on their website. You can view it at www.wwe.com/content/media/video/superstars/bam_bam_bigelow/bambamtribute
There is a slideshow on WNBC.com of 18 deceased wrestlers. The list ranges from Bam Bam Bigelow to Andre The Giant and includes Miss Elizabeth, Eddie Gilbert, Kerry Von Erich, Rick Rude and others with their age and cause of death listed. Dave Scherer of PWInsider.com guessed the slideshow was supposed to be making a point of how young they were (all were under the age of 50 at the time of their passing), but he didn't see how you can make any connection when you are including auto accidents (Junkyard Dog), freak incidents (Owen Hart) and health issues (Andre The Giant) with drug overdoses. You can see the slide show at www.wnbc.com/slideshow/news/5354493/detail.html
Oklafan would like to extend congratulations to NWA-U co-owner Christopher Fox on the birth of his daughter Alexandra on January 22nd. She weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces.
