The Scoop

NEWS
PWInsider.com is reporting that Doug Somers is suing WWE and Vince and Linda McMahon over usage of AWA matches featuring his likeness and matches on various DVDs, books, and WWE Classics onDemand without his consent. WWE has been using AWA footage since purchasing the tape library from Verne Gagne's family a decade ago. WWE, obviously, is arguing that he has no case and cites a similar case involving Ricky Steamboat from years ago where the court sided with WWE.
WWE posted on Twitter "Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross have been added to the 2012 SportsRadio 610 Fan Fest on Sunday, June 10th. #WWE".

Kyle Schadler of BleacherReport.com wrote a story entitled "Wrestling Gold: The History of the WWE World Tag Team Championship" in which he highlights every team to hold the titles starting with Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit, who won the title on October 20, 2002. These titles were created by SmackDown! General Manager Stephanie McMahon because at the time the WWE World Tag Team Titles were exclusive to RAW. The story continues through all other teams to hold those titles and includes all teams to hold the unified WWE World Tag Team Titles as well. Among the other teams highlighted were Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin (both as Team Angle and The World's Greatest Tag Team), Too Cool (Rikishi & Scotty Too Hotty), and Charlie Haas & Rico. According to a source within TNA, a major issue which lead to tension between Ric Flair and TNA, and could potentially be one reason why Flair is trying to leave the company, was the handling of the Gut Check segment on "Impact Wrestling" featuring Alex Silva. Reports state that Flair went off the script when he chose Silva as the winner, which is now causing issues for TNA as not only did Flair go into business for himself, but Silva is from Quebec, requiring TNA to spend more time and money getting him a U.S. Visa if they want to use him with any amount of regularity.
David Levin of BleacherReport.com wrote a story entitled "Pro Wrestling: CM Punk/Daniel Bryan and 9 of the Best Rivalries of All Time" and among those listed were Dory Funk Jr. & Terry Funk vs. Jack Brisco & Jerry Brisco, Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes vs. Ric Flair, and A. J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels. To read the entire story click here.
GoErie.com has a story about about Dothan, AL was best known worldwide for pro wrestling about 30 years ago. As a trivia note, the first Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant match was in Dothan, although he was then known as Terry "The Hulk" Boulder at the time, and it was actually that match that led to Terry Bollea getting his job with Georgia Championship Wrestling, as the show drew a full house. He didn't last long there since booker Ole Anderson didn't think he was any good and let him go quickly. The story noted Hogan, Andre, Ric Flair, Ken Lucas, The Fuller Brothers (Robert Fuller & Ron Fuller), and Bob Armstrong as among those who appeared regularly at the Houston County Farm Center and the WTVY studios, where Southeastern Championship Wrestling was taped. It was a good story dating back to the Fields Brothers in the 1950's, with quotes from former announcer Charlie Platt, who noted that there was a time when Dothan outdrew Atlanta every week. Bob Armstrong was quoted saying that from 1945 on, all he wanted to do was be a pro wrestler and noted seeing Gorgeous George live as a six-year-old. Armstrong bought 10% of the office in 1978 and was co-owner with the Fuller Brothers in the Southeastern Championship Wrestling era where they were the big stars. He also talked heavily about his matches with Ric Flair in the 1980's. To read the entire story, click here.
