28 Days of 'Mania: Tag Teams That Should Be in the Hall of Fame
Posted: Mar 22nd 2012 By: mikeiles
I realize the WWE, or WWF for that matter, is a game of politics and when it comes to induction into the Hall of Fame, there are just as many political games being played as there would be for the induction into Cooperstown or Canton.
That said, with the induction of Yokozuna being announced and the need for there to be some recognition of Randy Savage?and yes, his induction this year supersedes any other one on the ballot?there are others who are just as worthy to be inducted now like Giant Baba, Carlos Colon, Lita and Trish Stratus.
And by the way, if Capt. Lou Albano, Drew Carey and Pete Rose are all in the Hall, where is Cyndi Lauper?
But in addition to the great singles competitors on the HOF roster, there should be more of an inclusion of tag teams who left an indelible mark on the business and the company.
These teams should be considered without any hesitation.
Chavo and Hector Guerrero
The great Latino tag team of our generation.
Chavo and Hector were wildly popular in Texas and in Florida. They were a bit undersized, but there style and intensity in the ring won fans over.
They set the standard with their famous Guerrero Family (Gory, Mando and Eddie and Chavo Jr.) for all Latino and Luche Libre wrestlers who came into the business.
The Fabulous Freebirds
The three bad asses from Georgia. Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts.
I remember like it was yesterday, how they feuded with the Von Erichs in Texas and carried over their act to Georgia and WCW. Buddy Roberts was replaced with Jimmy Garvin and the group never missed a beat.
One of the great triple threats of all time.
The Rock-N-Roll Express
They established the bar that was raised by the Rockers and teams like the Hardys.
Ricky Morton was one best tag team wrestlers to never go solo. Robert Gibson went along for the ride and made a pretty good name for himself.
They were small in stature but big in heart and wildly popular in the NWA.
They were four-time world tag team champions.
Demolition
The fact that this team, a team that tried to duplicate the Road Warriors' success in the WWF, is not in the Hall of Fame is a crime.
Ax, Smash and Crush were just brutal in the ring, using brute force and power to win matches.
They did not just beat opponents, they beat them up.
The Midnight Express
I think they are the most underrated tag team of all time.
Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton were a good combination, with Jim Cornette filling in the speaking gaps.
Bringing in Stan Lane only made them better.
Challenging the Rock-N-Roll Express and the Road Warriors nightly made them better. And they were one of the gems of Jim Crockett Promotions.
