TNA: Could Bobby Roode and Sting Be Another Feud on the Horizon?
Posted: Jan 6th 2012 By: mikeiles
A report in today's issue of The Sun may have the current TNA World Champion Bobby Roode facing Sting in the near future.
When Bobby Roode beat James Storm in November, he cemented himself as the lead villain in TNA and a mark to take on all faces in the company, the General Menace included.
Storm's road to the world title was rocked and unpredictable. He lost the Bound for Glory match against Kurt Angle and was not granted a return match. James Storm was signed by Sting to face Angle and defeated the Olympian for his first ever world singles title.
Roode defeated Storm the very next week to claim gold and the lead role in the promotion.
Roode's statement in the British publication raises some flags as to the direction of how creative will now include the 52-year old icon. In recent weeks, both Sting and Roode have gotten testy on camera and were in the ring against each other last week in tag team action.
"I'll defend my belt against anyone who comes after it but my dream is to battle Sting. He's been a real thorn in my side so it would be great to beat him up all over the UK. It's his first trip there in a decade, which makes the thought of pinning his shoulders to the mat even more appealing."
I question what this would do for the title contenders and how would this be received by wrestlers in the locker room who have been pushed aside before by management (Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan) to give the veterans more of a run with the title while younger talent like Samoa Joe, Matt Morgan and even someone like a Bully Ray may have a legit shot at carrying the company and the title.
For now, Jeff Hardy is considered the top contender for the title after beating Jeff Jarrett at Turning Point, but at some point, the fans would like to see James Storm work an angle with his former tag team partner as part of the growth and development of the company into the new year.
Roode is part of TNA's Maximum Impact Tour taking in Nottingham (Jan 26), Manchester (Jan 27) and London's Wembley Arena (Jan 28).
