J. W.'s Mid-Year Report for Maximum Wrestling Alliance

J. W.'s Mid-Year Report for Maximum Wrestling Alliance

Posted: Jul 2nd 2010 By: mikeiles

Inspired by my favorite website, Oklafan.com, I?ve decided to do a mid-year report for my current employer, MWA. Below is a list of, what I believe, are the top-ten wrestlers in the MWA to date.

It will be a tough list, but hopefully, it will inspire some of the MWA?s stars to get the ball rolling for the second half of the year. Here we go:

1. ?Handsome? Jack Legacy
Let?s face facts: Legacy has been on a roll, Daddy! (If I may quote him). The man that claims to be every woman?s fantasy and every girl?s dreams has transformed into a nightmare for seemingly everyone he faces in the MWA. Not only has he claimed the top prize in the fed, but he has also seen some great success in MWA?s sister-promotion, Mid-States Wrestling, as the Southern States Tag-Team champion (with ?Darling? Dustin Heritage). He also continues to be the Coastal Commonwealth National Wrestling champion. Now, with ?The Kingpin? Mike Iles at the helm of Excellence Personified, it seems like Legacy will have a long run as the MWA champion.

2. ?Darling? Dustin Heritage
Probably the most charismatic member of Excellence Personified, Heritage, like his tag-team partners in the JetSetters, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy, has been on a tremendous roll. He recently captured the MWA Max-Division title in a triple-threat match, featuring Dexter ?Hardtimes? Hardaway and, then champion, ?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid. Not only that, he has seen some success in other federations around the state, and in Mid-States Wrestling, as well. Though he probably won?t make a run for the title while Legacy has the belt, one has to believe that it won?t be long before Heritage is the MWA Heavyweight champion. Also, like his partner, Legacy, he has the services of ?The Kingpin? Mike Iles.

3. ?The Luxembourg Beast? Dutch Hagen
Although he lost his debut match against Dexter ?Hardtimes? Hardaway, Hagen has been undefeated since then. After teaming with his current partner, ?The Minsk Manhandler? Boris Saarikoski, he quickly captured gold and re-ignited some of the dominance that ?Big? Stevie Caballero?s Foreign Legion once had. With the power and agility that Hagen brings to the ring, it?s hard to guess when this enormous duo will be dethroned from the top of the tag-team division. Add that to the tremendous amount of success that Hagen has had in other feds around the state, and it?s no wonder why he his ranked so high in such a short amount of time.

4. ?The Minsk Manhandler? Boris Saarikoski
The Russian juggernaut probably would have ranked higher, but he mysteriously disappeared from the MWA after November 2009 to go back to his mother-land of Russia. However, once his manager, ?Big? Stevie Caballero, found a suitable partner for him, he quickly returned to the states and reestablished his dominance in the MWA. Though he hasn?t appeared anywhere else in Oklahoma, the big man definitely makes an impact wherever he goes. He and Hagen will be nearly impossible to beat, and I expect them to have a long run as the MWA tag-team champions.

5. ?Human Action Figure? Jeff Starchild
Ever since his debut, Starchild has been sky-rocketing to the top of the MWA. His biggest nemesis has been the string of injuries that he has sustained since entering the MWA. First, he injured his ankle, which he was able to overcome and win the MWA Heavyweight title from, then champion, ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry. Then, he injured his back, and he lost the title in his first defense, though one could argue that the interference by Mike Iles was the contributing factor. Despite these tough obstacles, Starchild seems to be a Super Nova with a galaxy of talent and charisma. It probably won?t be long before he?s in the middle of the ring, holding up the MWA Heavyweight title again.

6. ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk
After leaving the MWA to pursue an opportunity with World Wrestling Entertainment, McGuirk has returned to the MWA like a ball of fire. Though he still hasn?t captured a title in the MWA, he has been embroiled in a feud with former MWA Heavyweight champion, ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry, and he has been impressive in every outing. While he may not have made it to the next step in the WWE, he is quickly climbing the ladder in the MWA, and it will only be a matter of time before he is knocking on the door of Barry?s Excellence Personified mate, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy.

7. ?Big Country? Jake Boulder
Despite a long run with tag-team partner, ?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones, as the MWA tag-team champions, Boulder has seemed distracted, as of late. A string of losses by the OSE to the Foreign Legion, including one that lost the tag-team titles has Boulder currently in limbo. Near the end of OSE?s title reign, Boulder seemed to be focused on the MWA heavyweight title, but has since, seemingly lost the drive to go after the belt. Now, with a lingering back injury that needs to be addressed, it seems like ?Big Country? Jake Boulder may be quickly falling out of the ranks.

8. ?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones
Like his partner, ?Big Country? Jake Boulder, Jones seems to have lost focus. During the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010, there was speculation that the two partners, that claim to be like brothers, were beginning to have problems. However, they were able to disprove those rumors with another six-month run as the MWA tag-team champions. Now, with the Foreign Legion as the tag champs, it seems as though Jones, like Boulder, is in limbo. The duo has a six-man tag match against their rivals, teaming with ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed, but it has no bearing on the titles. May we have seen the last of Old School Express? Only time will tell.

9. ?The Poster Boy? Blake Albright
As a former MWA Heavyweight champion, Albright knows what it takes to be at the top of the game. However, after losing his title, Albright seemingly faded into the background and disappeared for awhile. He finally came back to help his good friend, ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk, in a battle against ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry & ?Terrific? Tim Rockwell. At the June MWA show, he faced off against Justin Lee. Now, Albright just needs to parlay some of these victories into another run at the title before he slips into relative obscurity again.

10. ?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid
After capturing the MWA Max-Division title back in October 2009, Morbid dominated the division by taking out every opponent he was in the ring against. Morbid also showed a darker personality than he had before, and he even ran El Super Colibri out of the MWA. Despite losing his MWA Max-Division title in a triple-threat match, Morbid still has what it takes to reach the top of the MWA ranks. Morbid was absent in June, as he decided to recuperate and devise a game plan, but you can rest assured that when he returns, he?ll be looking to make an impact like he always does.

Only time will tell who will rank at the top of my list by the end of the year. However, there are some guys that better to a quick u-turn before they run off the cliff. ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry needs to get refocused. He has had little to no success in the MWA in 2010, and things don?t seem to be getting better for the former champion. ?Terrific? Tim Rockwell is another former MWA heavyweight champion that has hit a down-hill run in his career with the MWA. ?Broken Arrow Bad Boy? Justin Lee needs to refocus and concentrate on the big picture, or he will have nothing more than his new manager, Jamie Lynn, to remind him of his 2010 year in the MWA. These former champions need to focus on a guy with a lot of heart?undefeated new comer, Silo Sam. If they learn something from him, then maybe they?ll get back to their winning ways.

Thanks,
J.W. McGillicutty
