JR's Blog: Over the Limit...Greek Town w/ Bob Caudle...Rampage-Evans...Mir as a Wrestler...Roster Cuts...Order Today & We Ship Monday
Posted: May 24th 2010 By: mikeiles
Busy Sunday...shouldn't be but my nature is to not slow down but I'm working on that one. I miss football but I digress. On line business is growing because, I think, we sell great products and we provide excellent customer service. With grilling season upon us, now is a great time to place your BBQ Sauce and Chipotle Ketchup orders. We'll be shipping out this weekend's orders on Monday.
WWE did 10,000 fans in Cincy Saturday night. Running live events the night before a PPV is somewhat risky but there were no injuries to report. Hopefully, the talents got a sample of Skyline Chili or some Montgomery Inn BBQ while they were in town.
'Over the Limit' is tonight on PPV and is loaded with several matches. I'm not sure what to expect out of many the bouts which is a good thing but I do know that several of the matches have the chance to be really solid. We'll know if a few hours.
I wonder how many folks in Perry, Oklahoma will be watching hometown boy Jack Swagger defend his World Title? Bias, Oklahoma thought: I hope Swagger retains.
I like Cena over Batista in the 'I Quit' WWE Title bout but past that I'm not sold on any other supposed 'locks.'
Detroit is always a great place to visit especially if one has time to visit Greek Town. Bob Caudle and I went to Greek town for the first time on one of our Crockett trips to Detroit many years ago. I still say that Bob Caudle is one of the most underrated wrestling announcers ever and an even better man. If everyone in the biz had Bob Caudle's character, pro wrestling would be a better business.
Got an invite to the wrestling convention in Charlotte in August but haven't been able to finalize my schedule around that time. The decision is still up in the air but I'm sure that it would be a fun event to attend.
The Q&A section of the site was updated Sunday morning. Here's some quick feedback:
No...I seriously doubt if McMahon has invested the first nickel in TNA and can't really understand why this question was asked. That one was a little bit too much 'Oliver Stone.'
No...tag team wrestling is not a priority today and the reasons are likely because of personal booking preferences and the lack of an abundance of established, quality teams.
Yes...making cuts on any roster are necessary on a somewhat systematic basis to keep the roster fresh, create new match ups, provide a buzz for the fans, to facilitate opportunities to new talents, and to maximize budgets, to name a few of the many reasons. These decisions are never easy ones to make but they are essential if a business wants to improve and grow. Even in the territory days when promoters/decision makers were reluctant to move talent they often times regretted it. Fans want to see 'new' and it is incumbent upon the establishment to provide 'new.'
Not sure...if MMA star Frank Mir would make a great pro wrestler. Mir has the mental acumen to verbalize his feelings and to help establish issues and obviously he has athleticism. The unanswered question is does he or will he ever have the motivation to apply himself to the genre 100% of which it takes to become a star. Plus, would Mir entertain the idea of the pay structure that pro wrestling utilizes whereby he won't make 'big money' from the get go?
Not sure...if I want to pick a winner today of the upcoming Rampage Jackson vs. Rashard Evans UFC PPV bout next weekend in Vegas. Today I am a 'slight' Evans lean. Can't really tell you why as I think the fight will be that close and am more convinced that it won't go the distance.
No...David Otunga is not 'guaranteed' to be a main event level, WWE Superstar but he seemingly possesses many of the tools that one looks for when wanting to develop a star. Much like the Mir question, how well Otunga melds into the fabric of the system, how hard he pushes himself, can he catch a break or two along the way, can he stay healthy, and will he work overtime to improve every level of his game are a few of the questions that can only be answered in time. I do like the potential of Otunga nonetheless and hope that for his sake and the benefit of WWE that he makes it. Plus, I'm a big Jennifer Hudson fan.
No...I am not a fan of open air stadiums for Wrestlemania events. The reason is simple, Mother Nature. She answers to no one and rain, lightning, etc can potentially destroy the biggest WWE event of the year. My question is, why take the chance? Plus, I can tell you from experience, WM9 and WM24, that the noise level often times evades the stadiums that have no roof.
Yes...depth issues are a problem with every company that sells wrestling tickets. The absence of viable, weekly territories and the lack of the number of organized training facilities simply creates not enough skilled bodies who can fill much needed slots on any roster. It goes back to what I've been saying for years, from where does the next wave of superstars come?
No...I don't see a future Michael Cole vs. Daniel Bryan wrestling bout but I do think that the exchange between the two was positive for multiple reasons. People talked all week about NXT, about Bryan, and about Cole. The talk that I saw was largely 'good talk' inasmuch as many fans are wondering where this issue will go next. That's a good thing in a promoter's eyes.
Yes...I believe that pro wrestling, much like football or a good movie, is still a basic, fundamental entity that must have certain elements in place to be successful. These elements are largely basic, common sense matters that have been established to have worked for generations. With that said...another yes...that often times the wrestling biz is guilty of 'over thinking' its core product.
Yes...we will accept leads as to getting our products into your local grocery stores if that info is provided. Several of our visitors have done just that. We have every belief that getting our products into a large number of grocery stores will be infinitely more profitable than our BBQ joint was when it was earning. One door closes...another door opens.
Yes...your orders placed today will be shipped Monday and will hopefully get to you in time via Federal Express ground for your Memorial Day cookouts.
Thanks and have a great day!
Boomer Sooner!
