JR's Blog: Jeff Hardy Reality Show...Dennis Miller...Escape from Oklahoma...Benoit Better than Brisco?? Big Sale in Full Force

The weekend is upon us and I plan on spending ample time at JR's BBQ joint in Norman and watching plenty of football on TV. OU is off this weekend but all the Sooner faithful will be watching the Miami at Virginia Tech game Saturday afternoon as Oklahoma plays "The U" next Saturday in Miami. That's the day before the "Heck in a Cell" PPV in Newark which looks as if it has or is about to sell out. Nonetheless, a man has to have his priorities so I will fly to Miami and catch the game and then go to work on Sunday. Here's some random thoughts that can easily be turned into covert comments or plain 'Ol dirt if you choose.

Tulsa's Smackdown event was the best attended, WWE event ever in Tulsa. It helps to be in the biggest arena Tulsa has ever had, the impressive BOK Center, but a good accomplishment nonetheless. Some nimrods had some particularly stupid feedback to the column in the Tulsa World with not one mentioning the revenue the event created for the community. Some said the event was "heavily papered" which it was not. Why some people despise the genre so much is beyond my comprehension but i don't read those kinds of comments when the circus or another touring show comes to town. I get that the product is not what it was years ago but when any event brings new money to any community it simply can't be "Satan's Traveling Road Show." There were lots of kids in Tulsa who seemed to be having fun with their parents which isn't a bad thing. It's like the other day I heard a columnist for the "Daily Oklahoman," a newspaper that I regularly read, say that he "despised" wrestling and it made him sick but gave no reason why in a conversation that concerned the UFC in OKC.

Therefore I say the columnist is an idiot. I need not provide a reason why.

WWE promoting events in Oklahoma is always good for the state and the respective cities the events are held but more specifically great for the fans of Oklahoma and the surrounding states who travel to see these performances. Personally, these events are challenging as folks come out of the wood work wanting tickets or other perks which sometimes can be overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that I rarely get out of an Oklahoma building unscathed with either the obligatory ass whipping or verbal shots.

The talented and caustic Dennis Miller says that he will be the guest host of Raw sometime this year. I doubt if that Monday Night Football thing will be addressed and hopefully not Miller's exploits on the O'Reilly Factor but if allowed to be the performer that he is I can see Miller providing some stinging verbal jabs. I could easily see Miller, in character, as one of the most "despised" hosts on Monday night's show as in someone who would embrace Randy Orton or more importantly a young antagonist like Jack Swagger or The Miz.

I hear that the previously discussed Jeff Hardy reality show is still on the drawing board pending, I assume, the results of Jeff's legal entanglement being resolved. From what I hear, the Jeff Hardy reality show concept is not dead.

It's hard to not have great respect for the athletic accomplishments of former Georgia Bulldog and NFL star Herschel Walker but Herschel's recent decision to venture into MMA at age 47 makes no sense. Is this a publicity stunt or is Walker truly serious about competing at a high level of MMA at his age? Why would any responsible promoter sign Walker to a contract of this nature unless it was merely for PR which will turn into negative ink if Herschel fights and gets embarrassed or injured. This is not a good move for MMA in general of which UFC takes the biggest hit because they are the biggest dog in the hunt.

College football coaches Urban Myer of Florida and Lane Kiffin of Tennessee need to stop bickering like kids and simply coach their football teams and represent their universities that are paying them big bucks in a honorable manner. Or, they can go on Monday Night Raw and be co-guest hosts and compete with the other Divas.

I saw a recent on line wrestling poll whose votes indicated that Chris Benoit was a FIVE TIMES better wrestler than Jack Brisco. Wow....must have been a bunch of really young voters who never saw Jack Brisco wrestle. This is no knock to Benoit was Brisco in his prime was untouchable.

Two more WWE HOF suggestions would include Antonio Inoki and Ted "The Million Dollar Man" DiBiase. I hope that I just didn't jinx either man. Both men have made significant and diverse contributions to the business.

An emailer asked if I knew what special guests would appear on the 10th Anniversary of Friday Night Smackdown. My answer was that I have not heard a single name, nor have I asked or thought about the matter, so any fan's guess is as good as mine. All I know is that I'm flying to Boston Monday evening and going to work Tuesday. I'm not even sure if all three announce teams are going to be present.

Speaking of Q&A's, I have updated a ton of them in recent hours/days for your review. There are some "classics" in this current crop.

Another emailer suggested a list of wrestlers he thought might defeat the Undertaker at a Wrestlemania event. I am an advocate of freedom of expression on this site, if it is in good taste, but I must disagree on this subject. I never see the Undertaker losing at any Wrestlemania event which means I may have just jinxed the "Deadman." Dammit! The Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania is an organically created, marketing resource that can be utilized for years to come.

Loved this email...what's most likely to ocur...Bret Hart appearing on WWE TV or Fedor signing with UFC? Easily it's Bret Hart making an appearance on a WWE show as I never see Fedor signing with UFC under the ridiculous terms of his recent contract demands.

The UFC brand is bigger than any individual star on its roster and smart companies always keep themselves in that position.

Any talent in pro wrestling or MMA who feels that they are bigger than the brand for which they work and are more important than the team on which they play should be quickly facilitated to play elsewhere.

I expect the Reverend Al Sharpton, therefore WWE, to garner a ton of pub from Reverend Al's Raw appearance Monday night. The post Raw comments from media talking heads all over the country will be significant as Sharpton is a lightning rod for publicity and his voice has been heard at the forefront of many controversial topics. I can easily see where Reverend Al Sharpton might become the most controversial guest host to ever appear on Raw. From Cedric the Entertainer to Reverend Al Sharpton is quite the segue of diverse personalities.
