JR's Blog: Biggest Sale EVER Starts Here Friday...FREE Shipping to USA & Canada...Random Thoughts
Posted: Aug 20th 2009 By: mikeiles
Our biggest sale ever starts on this site (JRsBarBQ.com)this Friday. We have developed some terrific packages especially for you that does include FREE SHIPPING to the USA and CANADA! Plus, we have not forgotten about our friends in the UK as you will see. Please check for the details this Friday. This is a great chance to get some FREE SWAG, save big money on hot T Shirts, try our BBQ Sauces, Chipolte Ketchup, Beef Jerky and much more. This promotion won't last long so I hope that no one "burns any daylight" with these big time, main event level offers.
Here's some Random Thoughts from the Baron of BBQ!
Heading to LA on Saturday for a whirlwind weekend of activities associated with Summerslam. Fan Axxess is Saturday and Sunday which I hope those attending enjoy. If you attend, drop us an email review here at the site on our Q&A section. The best feedback anyone can have is from their fan base IE the paying customers. We sure listen to our customers at our BBQ joint.
I will making some predictions Thursday on WWE.com in my weekly blog which is usually located underneath a gaggle of provocatively attired Divas on the Smackdown page. Perhaps I can obtain the lineup for Sunday by my blogs deadline.
Smackdown taped in KC Tuesday night and has a red hot start and a compelling close to the two hour program. The good folks of KC had plenty of energy to help the proceedings which you can see Friday night on MyNetworkTV.
Two, 6 man tags bookend the final SD before Summerslam and both seemed to forward S'Slam issues well and will hopefully encourage folks to buy the event.
The Hart Dynasty performs for the 2nd week in a row in the final segments of Smackdown. That's prime real estate and it's good to see some young competitors getting the opportunity to carry the ball.
Even the Baron of BBQ doesn't eat "Q" every day.
WWE Women's Champion Michelle McCool makes her return to SD this week and did an outstanding job doing guest commentary during a Diva tag bout featuring Melina/Maria vs. Layla/Natalya in a match loaded with names ending in vowels.
Perhaps McCool and Grisham would make a dandy broadcast duo some day. Michelle pays attention and has a Masters Degree which all bode well for her better understanding of the biz.
Speaking of women, it would seem that the Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg MMA bout on Showtime last weekend would erase some narrow minded individuals doubts that women can't headline a major MMA event. Nice TV rating which was essentially all Carano and Cyborg...mostly Gina in my opinion.
Could a women's bout headline a wrestling PPV? Interesting question. In today's marketplace and as the females are currently positioned my answer would reluctantly be no. However, there is no reason that two, highly skilled, in ring technicians who the fans have made the vital, vested interest in AND who have a strong, clearly defined personal issue can't contribute MUCH more than they currently do.
Does that mean I think that, if crafted properly, women can close a TV program in compelling fashion? Absolutely.
The wrestling business doesn't need to be reinvented. Personal issues between talented and fundamentally sound individuals whether it be men or women still will put an ass every 18 inches and enhance TV ratings.
Hey, did I mention that you should do some shopping on this very site this Friday during the biggest sale we've ever had?
I will be taping some material, sorry but I can't talk about it in specifics, for the Food Network while in Los Angeles this weekend. The air date is November and I will, hopefully, have more info on this project when I return from this upcoming road trip.
The Food Network is a favorite of mine and I hope to be able to do more projects with them in the future. I'm also going to be doing more work with various radio stations outside Oklahoma during college football season of which I will keep you informed. Plus, I will be appearing on OKC's Fox 25 Morning Show every Friday during football season as well doing some infotainment and, hopefully, selling some groceries at our BBQ joint in Norman.
Back to Friday Night Smackdown starring Todd "The Gel Man" Grisham, another interesting week in the development of Mike "Fort" Knox....the deranged kineseologist.
"The Rise and Fall of WCW" is a compelling DVD that is full of controversy, unique perspectives, and is likely about as fair and balanced as WWE is going to be when slamming Turner's WCW. It's a three disc collection and has been intriguing as hell to watch. I highly recommend this DVD as it has tons of unique insight plus is documentary style which beats the hell out of match compilations in my personal view.
Bottom line, as my friend Stone Cold would say, is that some of the head honchos who oversaw WCW had little or no product knowledge and even less respect for the wrestling business.
The new faction that William Regal has "assembled" on ECW interests me. Why? Because it's new. I realize that everything "new" can't be great or even good but at least it's different. Plus, no one knows for sure what the audience is going to buy into until "new" is provided an opportunity to evolve over an adequate amount of time. Two of WWE's most eligible, young bachelors, Matt Striker and Josh Mathews, if that is their real names, are doing a solid job broadcasting ECW Tuesday nights on Sy Fy. This duo does their prep and care about improving their game. Both should be destined for more, higher profile assignments in the future.
Someone is missing the boat by not doing a Michael Moore type documentary on the Memphis Mayoral race. Professional politicos are like car crashes in that one can't help but rubberneck at these buffoons. In all seriousness, I admire my former broadcast colleague Jerry Lawler for wanting to serve his hometown and to help make it a better place to live. The King is damn sure not a professional politician, even though the wrestling business has been dotted with "politics" forever, and Jerry certainly doesn't need the mayor's salary to make end's meet. I'm shocked that the "Daily Show" on Comedy Central hasn't jumped all over this fiasco.
Monday's Raw in Vegas hosted by Floyd "Money" Mayweather should be a fun show and I hope that I'm there to see it live and to enjoy a little bit of Las Vegas Sunday/Monday night but I actually don't know my schedule. The last time I was in Vegas I actually took some of THEIR money home with me. For me, that doesn't happen too often.
I got back to my hotel room Tuesday night in KC in time to order room service (that's a big win when on the road) and to see Donald Trump as a guest on the David Letterman Show. Donald, as always, was a great guest and has excellent chemistry with Dave. Donald Trump is a cool dude and hasn't accidentally stumbled upon his significant wealth. Plus, "The Donald" owns two, awesome beauty pageants of which I will volunteer my services as a judge any time.
Which wrestling website will be the first to write, "Why is JR kissing Donald Trump's ass? Is JR wrangling for a job or a spot on "Celebrity Apprentice?" Nope....I just respect and like the guy. He's always been very respectful of me and my work.
I would be interested to see WWE produce a program comparable to HBO's "Hard Knocks." No, I'm not Jonseing for "Tough Enough" but selected behind the scenes activities at WWE events and the trials and tribulations of travel and all that goes with it would make for great TV. Some performers would likely be more natural in this environment than some are in front of the camera in their "official" TV personas.
Doing a reality show with the wrestling biz and its many personalities as the backdrop should be a slam dunk.
Count me in as a football fan who is happy to see Brett Favre return to the NFL even though I would have also been perfectly happy for him to have stayed retired. I do agree that #4 had to know for absolute certainly that his tank was truly empty before hanging up his cleats. Ball players play ball until they can't play any longer because they love the game. (Wrestlers usually wrestle long after they shouldn't because they need the cash.) I'll be watching plenty of Viking games this fall as I'm not only a Favre guy but my Oklahoma Sooners have Adrian Peterson and offensive tackle Phil Loadholt on the team. Perhaps some of you have heard of that Peterson fellow. I have a really cool, autographed photo right here in my home office of Ol JR w/ AD taken a few months ago here in Norman. AD just happens to be a fan of our "Q" which makes me awfully happy. Ironically, I also have a photo of the Chicago Bears starting defensive tackles and former Sooners, Dusty Dvorchek and Tommie Harris, on the wall next to AD. The Vikes and DA Bears will be must see TV for me this fall.
Can you believe that I got through an entire broadcast from Kansas City without one mention of Bulldog Bob Brown, Rufus R. Jones, or Bob Geigel? Shame on me.
WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race was at the event with some of his students from Harley's outstanding wrestling school. I feel like a kid (no smart ass jokes, please) around Harley was is one of my all time favorites. Harley said he had a great time, by the way, last weekend in Charlotte during the NWA Reunion. Harley told me that he had to avoid hitting the bar with "The Naitch" for the obvious reasons.
I also saw P.N. News in KC and hadn't seen him in years. I think the big man from Nebraska and Fit Finlay are friends from their days of wrestling in Germany.
Last reminder, our big sale starts this Friday and I hope you place plenty of orders. "Baby needs new shoes."
