Texas, Inc. is Back!!

Can someone please explain the weather to me? I know it's Oklahoma...I've lived here nearly all my life, but is it not getting a little ridiculous? I saw people running around in shorts earlier today, and now I'm sitting here writing this column and dreading my gas bill next month, from this night alone. A 43-degree drop in temperature in about six hours, at the time that I'm writing this. Enough about the weather, let's talk wrestling, particularly the MWA this past Friday night. Before I get started, did Mike Iles look sharp or what in his styling and profliling suit? Anyhow, onto the action:

Canadian Red Devil v. "Handsome" Jack Legacy

I'm not sure if this match brought any closure to the problems that have been brewing between these two men, but it certainly took it one step further. Legacy had to be coming into this match wondering about his ability to defeat CRD after losing last month to El Super Colibri, a close friend of CRD. However, the toast of the coast raised his goblet of talent and got the victory over the popular Red Devil. It was not an easy victory, by any means, but it was a victory, none-the-less.

Winner: "Handsome" Jack Legacy

Bernard Funk v. Mitch Carter

In a match that saw a contrast of styles equivalent to night and day, Mitch Carter, making his MWA debut ran into a crafty veteran in the form of Bernard Funk. Not taking anything away from Mr. Carter, but if you make one mistake against a guy like Funk, you might as well just lay down and make the three-count yourself because you're going to lose. Funk picked up the victory and added yet another "W" in that long list he already has.

Winner: Bernard Funk

"Broken Arrow Bad Boy" Justin Lee v. "Darling" Dustin Heritage

This match was all that I thought it was going to be...exciting. Lee, who was one of four debuting stars for the MWA, pulled no punches against Jack Legacy's buddy, Dustin Heritage. Lee's corkscrew plancha off the top rope onto Heritage, who was on the floor, was a calculated risk that ended up paying high dividends for Broken Arrow's Bad Boy. Though Heritage lost the match, he may have gained the respect of many for his hard fought battle.

Winner: "Broken Arrow Bad Boy" Justin Lee

El Super Colibri v. X-Cal

The MWA higher-ups may want to invest in a helicopter if this fued goes much further. That is the only way the ref is going to be able to keep up with all the action. Arguably, two of the greatest high-fliers on the scene today, and they took to the air like the U.S. Air Force. X-Cal used his experience, however, when he shoved the ref into the ropes to knock Colibri off the top. A shooting star press later, and the match was over, with X-Cal getting the victory. It wasn't the revenge Colibri wanted for last month, but I have a feeling he'll get another chance.

Winner: X-Cal

The LONRs (Mark Sterling & Darrien Sanders) v. The Gentlemen Thugs (Cast-Iron Cothern & "Mr. Endurance" Sugar Shane Morbid)

As I noted in my last column, and as Oklafan.com has reported, the Gentlemen Thugs have had their problems lately. It's one thing to not be on the same page, but when you have to face a team like the LONRs, you want to be on your A-game. The G-Thugs looked great during the first part of the match, and it looked like they would get a victory over their opponents, but Cast-Iron Cothern refused to get back in the ring, leaving Morbid to the mercy of the LONRs, which was non-existent. The LONRs saw the opportunity and cashed in, getting the victory in a convincing way, once Cothern had left.

Winners: The LONRs (Mark Sterling & Darrien Sanders)

The Old School Express ("Space Cowboy" Jason Jones & "Big Country" Jake Boulder) v. The Gentlemen Thugs (Cast-Iron Cothern & "Mr. Endurance" Sugar Shane Morbid)

After the G-Thugs match with the LONRs, the OSE took the opportunity to remind the Thugs that they have to defend the Southern States Tag-Team titles every 30 days. OSE asked the Thugs to put the straps on the line, and while Morbid agreed, Cothern simply stood at the top of the ramp shaking his head "no." Already fatigued from his previous match, Morbid was easy prey for the OSE, who won the straps once again, in a short amount of time.

Winners and New Southern States Tag-Team Champions:
The Old School Express ("Space Cowboy" Jason Jones & "Big Country" Jake Boulder)

MWA Championship Triple-Threat Match:
Max McGuirk v. Blake Albright v. "Terrific" Tim Rockwell w/Big Stevie Caballero

This match started out looking like a handicap match, with Rockwell being on the short end of the stick. However, when the top prize is on the line, team work will only go so far. McGurik had some choice words for Albright that led to a shoving match, wihich, in turn, led to a punch-fest. Rockwell had a chance to get a break, but once he re-entered the ring, the double teams started agian. It looked like the champ was in danger of losing his match, when the Longhorn Assassin made his presence known again, this time helping Rockwell by attacking Albright and McGuirk with a chair. Then, the Longhorn Assassin unmasked to reveal that is was Rockwell's uncle and long-time tag-team partner, Bernard Funk!!! Texas, Inc. was reunited!!! However, the Texas celebration was short-lived as the MWA championship committee had Mike Iles announce that there would be a re-match next month, in a triple-threat bull rope match!!

Referee's Decision: No-Contest (due to outside interference)

It looks like MWA is going to kick off the new year with a bang. A triple-threat bull rope match for the MWA title, plus will the former team of the Gentlemen Thugs have anything to say to each other? Also, what will happen next in the X-Cal/El Super Colibri fued? Who knows? But, you can find out on January 9, 2009 as the MWA comes to you from Spavinaw School Gym, 100 Lake Ave. in Spavinaw, OK. Tickets are $5.00, and kids 5 & Under get in free!!!

Until next time, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and a Great New Year's Eve.

Yours,
J.W. McGillicutty
