Two cents worth that I can't afford

The debut of the Maximum Wrestling Alliance
Well, it's Labor Day, and I know what you're thinking...why am I not out enjoying myself on this farewell holiday to the summer. Two reasons: it's hot and muggy outside, and with the MWA show on the horizon, there's not much time left to say what I have to say.
Everyone is wondering who's going to win the tournament, and I myself am intrigued, as this is definitely a talent-loaded bracket that will be the wrestling equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest. With that being said, I'll examine each opening match...
"Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry v. Bernard Funk
Michael Barry certainly has all the tools necessary to come out of this tournament with the gold. He's big, agile, and powerful. That's a pretty good trifecta of attributes to take into the ring with you. However, he also has one thing that will be working against him...his ****iness. Though he is younger than Bernard Funk, Funk is crafty and tougher than boot leather. Also, with the tournament being on Friday night, Mr. Saturday Night may regret having a weekend at Bernie's. Anyhow, when the cards fall, I think Michael Barry will prevail over the veteran and move on to the next round of the tournament.
My pick: "Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry
Blake Albright v. "Handsome" Jack Legacy
Jack Legacy, the man that claims to be every woman's fantasy and every girl's dream, may prove to be a nightmare for Blake Albright, younger brother of Brent. However, the wrestling gene does run pretty rampant throught the Albright family, and you have to agree, Blake has been pretty impressive since day one. Legacy on the other hand has seen his share of impressive victories, and his career is nothing to sneeze at: he's a multi-time singles and tag-team champion. Plus, with one shoot to thrill, Albright might have to chill. His inexperience may be his biggest anchor in this match.
My pick: "Handsome" Jack Legacy
"Terrific" Tim Rockwell v. El Super Colibri
There's been a lot of talk about this match because of the short, but violent, history between these two men. It wasn't too long ago that these two men formed Team Super Terrific in Compound, and they had a pretty impressive run...that is, until Rockwell decided to be...Tim Rockwell. Though Rockwell has been on quite a roll since reuniting with Stevie Caballero, his ComPro X-Division title run, which ended at the hands of Justin Lee, and his TAP Oklahoma Heritage, which has been defended maybe once, have been non-impressive. On the other hand, El Super Colibri has been pretty impressive as of late. Though he has had a hard time with Rockwell in the past, he may be due a surprise victory. Who knows, though? With the trump card of Caballero always ready to be played, Rockwell may continue to rack up wins.
My pick: El Super Colibri
Canadian Red Devil v. "The Vulture" Kenny Campbell
The Canadian Red Devil, one of the most popular wrestlers anywhere he wrestles, has been in a slump as of late. He and the Canadian Luchadore (collectively known as New Canada) lost the ComPro tag team titles earlier this year. At the last TAP show, Devil lost the TAP heavyweight title to a very tough and impressive Cast-Iron Cothern. "The Vulture" Kenny Campbell thrives on this, hence the name. With Devil down in the dumps (win/loss wise), the Vulture may need to just swoop in and pick the bones clean. However, the Devil may be ready to "burn" the competition.
My pick: Canadian Red Devil
Who knows who will win? One thing will be certain though. When the dust settles and the champion is holding that belt high in the air...he will have earned it.
Southern States Tag Title Match: Gentlemen Thugs v. Old School Express
Is there anyone more intense that Cast-Iron Cothern, right now? My goodness, this guy is all business right now, and at the recent TAP show, it certainly paid off. This Friday, he teams with Shane Morbid to take on "Space Cowboy" Jason Jones and "Big Country" Jake Boulder. I'm not going to take anything away from Jones or Boulder, but the G-Thugs are on a roll, and I don't think they can be knocked off the tracks, even if Boss Campbell isn't conducting their train of devastation. The Old School Express may be getting lessons in pain and intensity.
My pick: Gentlemen Thugs
Well, there you have it. That's my thoughts on the whole MWA show. If you miss it, you'll regret it. So, get to Spavinaw, get your ticket, and enjoy the ride. I'll see at the show.
Until I can scratch up another two-cents,
