When Brent Albright won the NWA World Heavyweight Title by defeating Adam Pearce in New York City, it marked the first time the historic belt had changed hands in the city. Prior to the match, Pearce was given a new NWA World Title belt. Ironically, this happened years earlier as Harley Race was given a new belt then lost the title in the first match after.
Ric Flair has separated from his third wife Tiffany VanDemark, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It is believed the couple split up in June. There had been concern for Flair, who had been unable to be reached over the last month. VanDemark, 36, is a former fitness competitor and was prominent with the WWE Hall of Famer through all the Wrestlemania festivities. Flair and VanDemark met in 1999, and have been married for two years.
Interesting irony, WWE's 24/7 video on demand service, WWE 24/7, has announced that September is Ric Flair month.
Speaking of Flair, his son Reid is training with George South - who is also training Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat's son (Richard Blood Jr.). Flair son is signed to a developmental deal, and it is likely WWE will put Steamboat's son under a developmental deal somewhere down the road.
Ric Flair is accepting bookings at bookric@thegillespieagency.com. Rumors have Ric Flair seeking $15,000 per appearance on the independent circuit.
Ric Flair had considered leaving World Wrestling Entertainment weeks before securing his release from the company. Flair has had discussions about doing a reality TV show with son Reid, based on the success of Hulk Hogan's reality show on VH1.
In addition to offers to make wrestling appearances and doing shoot interviews, Flair has also received offers for public and corporate speaking engagements.
RAW superstar Matt Striker and Todd Grisham worked as the ECW announcers this past week from Atlanta, GA. Striker was sitting in for Tazz, as it was explained by Grisham. Tazz and Jim Ross worked as the Smackdown announcers the same night. Apparently they are selling the Edge attack on Mick Foley, which explains why Foley wasn't in the booth tonight.
Mick Foley's WWE contract is up soon, perhaps as early as the end of the summer.
Jim Duggan did the "Kiss Cam" segment and tried to get women to kiss other women at the August 4th edition of "WWE RAW" in Knoxville, TN.
Jakks Pacific recently released prototype pictures of their WWE "Ruthless Aggression 35" series. The series include Hornswoggle, Santino Marella, Beth Phoenix, Rey Mysterio, Edge, Joey Styles, and Victoria.
Jakks Pacific also released prototype pictures of their WWE "Ruthless Aggression 36" series. The series include The Big Show, Mickie James, Maryse, D. H. Smith, Charlie Haas, Kofi Kingston, and Umaga.
Referee Nick Patrick was among seven people released last week by WWE. The others were Braden Walker (AKA Chris Harris), Big Daddy V, Shannon Moore, Nunzio, Domino, and James Curtis.
The release of referee Nick Patrick appears to be a numbers game. Most of the younger referees work the ring crew. Patrick's release doesn't appear to be a backlash to the failure of his father's Deep South Wrestling. His father, The Assassin, ran the former WWE developmental territory.
When Dusty Rhodes switched from the ECW creative staff to Florida Championship Wrestling, the recently released James Curtis lost his biggest supporter.
WWE will release "Hell In A Cell" on DVD on October 7th of this year. Some of the matches featured in the 3 disc set will include:

TNA World Tag Team Champions The Latin American Xchange (Homicide & Hernandez) defeated Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) at the TNA house show in the hometown of the late Bam Bam Bigelow, Asbury Park, NJ. After the match, Brother Ray pointed to the sky and thanked Bam Bam for all the great memories.
The final decision has not been made on the current Sting angle. Vince Russo wants to turn him heel but unless he can convice Sting to go heel, he won't. If he does go heel there are plans for him to feud with A. J. Styles and then Samoa Joe.
A. J. Styles was on last Wednesday's edition of "Peach State Pandemonium". To listen to the archive of the show, click here.
The newest episode of TNA on IGN is now up at IGN.com. This episodes features a Q and A session with A. J. Styles and footage of Petey Williams, Chris Sabin, and Alex Shelley all playing Rock Band.
Towards the end of the main event of TNA's "Hard Justice" pay-per-view, the lights went out and when they came back on, Samoa Joe had a guitar and used it on Booker T to get the pinfall victory and retain the TNA World Title. The angle was to start the wheels in motion for the return of Jeff Jarrett.
Cheerleader Melissa suffered a leg injury on July 31st during a routine workout at her gym. Due to the injury she was unable to participate on the August 3rd ChickFight event in Ipswich, England. On a recent MySpace bulletin she said she has been getting plenty of rest and her injury is not as serious as originally thought.
Promoter Ruben Zamora wrote that he had been working with Matt Holder of New Generation Wrestling in Greenville, SC asking for help in booking Mexican stars for August shows, in particular Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon Jr., El Hijo del Santo and L.A. Park. Zamora booked 11 wrestlers for him and helped design his ad, and said Holder then disappeared, never sending the deposits or buying the airline tickets or hotel rooms. The local Spanish newspaper called Zamora to ask about Holder saying payment hadn't arrived for the ad.
NWA Southwest promoter Ken Taylor, who holds NWA rights in Texas and Oklahoma, sent out a press release last week saying that NWA-SW has added three affiliate members to effectively recreate a state territorial system that was in effect in the NWA from the 1950's until 1986. He also stated that NWA Oklahoma, which is an NWA-SW associate member, could be involved in an intrastate feud.
