Greg Valentine says Forever Valentine, the recently released book about him by Scott Wilder and Kenny Casanova is unauthorized. In a statement to fans, the WWE Hall of Famer said the book “was published entirely without my permission, consent, or involvement,” adding that copies advertised as signed “are signed by the authors (not by me).” Valentine asked fans not to purchase the release and said his official book is in development.

Chelsea Green clapped back at WWE producer and wrestling legend Michael Hayes during the “SummerSlam” post-show following her Interim WWE Women’s Title victory. Joining the panel of Big E, Corey Graves, Peter Rosenberg, and Joe Tessitore, the new champion said, “I am going to dedicate this title to Michael Hayes.” That got a chuckle out of the panel, with Graves saying, “If you know, you know!” The comment is in relation to Hayes’ description of Green during an episode of season 2 of “WWE: Unreal” on Netflix, where he claimed that the role of Green was to help elevate other Superstars, and not to be a main event star. Talking to Sam Roberts on “WWE Now” after the show, Green added that she’s getting all this love for just being herself. “For doing nothing out of the ordinary, for literally just showing up to work, doing my job and going home,” Green said. “I mean ‘Unreal’ season 3 just came out and it reignited that passion from the fans like I know it did. I know it did. I felt it. I have felt it all weekend, I have felt it all year, I felt it for three years,” she continued. “I really felt it when I won the US Title but it has exploded since then. Exploded. And I thank Michael Hayes for that.”

WWE Vault additions include Abdullah the Butcher vs. Bruiser Brody from a WCCW event that took place on August 4, 1986 and a video on Dory Funk, Jr.’s NWA World’s Heavyweight Title win from 1969.

AEW announcer Jim Ross revealed on his latest episode of Grilling JR podcast that he will be undergoing brain surgery next week. Ross said that surgery is scheduled for Wednesday in Norman, Oklahoma and while he can’t say he’s looking forward to it, he’s at a point where he wants to get it over and done with. “I have never had brain surgery before. So they’re going to put a, what do they call it, A shunt? So I’m getting a shunt put in my brain,” Ross explained. The surgery will ease the pressure on his brain by draining extra cerebrospinal fluid through a small hole in the skull via a thin tube. “They said I’m only going to be in the hospital a day. That surprised me and made me happy, but still I would have guessed longer,” he continued. Ross’ AEW contract wraps up this month and he added that he has not signed a new deal yet.

Jim Cornette is facing backlash after promoting Orgain protein powder, following renewed attention on reports and legal claims involving the product’s alleged heavy metal content. Consumer Reports previously flagged Orgain’s Vanilla Bean protein powder for lead levels that exceeded its recommended level of concern for a daily serving, while a lawsuit filed against Costco alleges some samples exceeded California Proposition 65 limits for lead by more than 600%. Consumer Reports advised limiting consumption rather than using the product daily. The lawsuit also alleges consumers were not adequately warned about potential lead exposure. Orgain has disputed the allegations, maintaining that its products meet applicable safety standards and noting that trace amounts of heavy metals can naturally occur in plant-based ingredients. As the story has gained traction online, Cornette has come under criticism from some fans for promoting the product, despite no indication he was aware of the allegations at the time of the sponsorship.

Brock Rechsteiner, rookie wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints and son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, has been suspended by the National Football League for the first 6 regular season games. In a statement released by the Saints, Rechsteiner was suspended for violating the NFL-NFL Players Association performance-enhancing substances policy. Rechsteiner, who signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent has a limited chance of making the 53-man roster, but can still be named to a practice squad while suspended. He can still participate in training camp and Saints’ three preseason games, allowing him to continue competing for a spot. Rechsteiner has said he wants to play football as long as he can, but is eyeing a future in pro wrestling when his football career is over. The belief was that if Rechsteiner was cut by the Saints, he would immediately join WWE, and some feel that this suspension could be the final nail in the coffin, so to speak. Scott's younger son Brandon plays basketball and recently transferred to Kansas State after one season at Colorado State (2025-26) and two seasons at Virginia Tech (2023-25).

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Dory Funk, Jr., also known as Hoss Funk, who passed away August 4th after being placed in hospice. He was 85 years old. Funk, whose full name was Dorrance Earnest Funk and who was a second generation wrestler following in the footsteps of his father Dory Funk, Sr., had an extensive background in football and amateur wrestling. He faced Don Fargo in his debut match and was victorious there. Funk worked early in his career in his father's territory, NWA-Western States Sports (Typically referred to as NWA-West in Oklafan documentation), based in Amarillo, TX, before branching out to Florida, Missouri and Japan. Along the way, Funk captured many prominent titles, but climbed to the top of the mountain on February 11, 1969 when he beat Gene Kiniski for the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title. Funk would go on to hold the title for four-and-a-half years, the 2nd longest individual reign of any wrestler to hold the belt (the longest belonging to Lou Thesz). In that time, Funk performed the duties of the travelling NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, seeing action all around the world, including 8 documented title defenses in Oklahoma between 1971 and 1973. Funk's title reign ended on May 24, 1973 in what some consider a controversial decision. Funk lost the title to Harley Race after coming back what some considered to be "too soon" from an automobile accident. But there were those who said the car accident never happened and that the reason Funk claimed it did was because he was scheduled to lose it to Jack Brisco, but didn't feel that was right because both were babyfaces (and they had feuded extensively over the title), so if Brisco beat Funk, it would mean Brisco was BETTER than Funk. In any event, after losing the title, Funk went on to solidify himself in Japan, while still competing in Canada, the Caribbean and around the US. He was a mainstay for All Japan Pro Wrestling, joining the company a year after it was founded and won many World's Strongest Tag Determination League tournaments in the company. In 1986, Funk entered the WWF, joining his brother Terry and his "brother" Jimmy Jack. He didn't stay long, but was involved in feuds with The Junkyard Dog and The British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith). After leaving the WWF, Funk returned to Puerto Rico before making his way back into All Japan. In 1994, he rejoined his brother Terry in the early days of ECW, feuding with Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge & Rocco Rock). For the next 30 years, Funk would wrestle sporadically while also running the Funkin' Dojo, where he trained many wrestlers who would become fixtures of the national wrestling scene including The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy), Kurt Angle, Lita, Christian Cage, Test, and Mickie James amongst others. He wrestled his final match in 2024 where he and student Osamu Nishimura defeated Atushi Onita and Raigin Yaguchi in an Double Hell Current Explosion Death Match. Dory Funk, Jr. had competed in 9 documented matches in Oklahoma at the time of his death. The earliest took place on May 3, 1971 where he defended the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title against TSW United States Tag Team Champion The Spoiler in Tulsa. The last took place sometime in 1976 when he defended the NWA-West International Title against The Super Destroyer in Guymon. Funk was the last living man to hold a recognized World Title in the 1960s and his legacy, individually as well as part of the Funk family, will carry on despite his passing.

Mid-States Wrestling honored Dory Funk, Jr. with a 10-bell salute before their event in Springfield, MO on August 8th.

The wrestling world reacted to the death of Dory Funk Jr., with many wrestling stars and legends posting tributes to one of the most popular performers ever. “WWE is saddened to learn that Dory Funk Jr., a WWE Hall of Famer and influential wrestling trainer, has passed away,” WWE wrote on social media. The company honored him with a tribute video and also a post on the official website. AEW said in a post on X “AEW and the wrestling world mourn the passing of the legendary Dory Funk Jr. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time,” The NWA, where Dory was champion, said that it is saddened to hear about his death. “The National Wrestling Alliance sends its most heartfelt wishes to the family, friends and fans of Dory Funk Jr., a true legend whose contributions to professional wrestling are still felt and celebrated to this day,” the statement read. Dory also worked with TNA in its early days and the promotion paid tribute to him with a post on social media. “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the legendary Dory Funk Jr., who was involved with many of TNA’s early events including our very first event in 2002. We offer our sincere condolences to his fans, friends, and family,” TNA wrote. The Cauliflower Alley Club called Dory a champion, a teacher, a gentleman, and an ambassador for the great sport. “Dory Funk Jr. leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered by wrestlers and fans around the world,” CAC said on X. Funk and his late brother Terry were two of the greatest wrestlers of all time, achieving tremendous success on their own and as a tag team. They made a huge impact in Japan, and New Japan Pro Wrestling published a tribute remembering Dory as a beloved figure who helped the company thrive in the 70s and 80s: “New Japan Pro Wrestling is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dory Funk Jr. at the age of 85. The son of Dory Funk Sr. and brother to Terry Funk, Dory Jr. made his pro-wrestling debut in 1963. On February 11 1969, he defeated Gene Kiniski to lift the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship, a title he held for four years and three months. During that reign, Dory made his first trip to Japan for the Japan Wrestling Alliance, where he wrestled memorable bouts with Giant Baba and NJPW founder Antonio Inoki, both in singles matches and in tag bouts alongside brother Terry. The Funk brothers would be beloved by the Japanese fans, and became key international players in the Japanese pro-wrestling boom of the ’70s and ’80s. ‘The Great Texan’ wouldn’t wrestle in NJPW however until October 2001, where the Funks took on Tatsumi Fujinami and Bob Backlund for a dream tag team match in the Tokyo Dome. The thoughts and deepest sympathies of all at NJPW go out to Funk’s family, friends and fans.

A hard-nosed and fierce competitor, his rugged in-ring style was only eclipsed by the decades he spent training athletes to perform in the squared circle he loved so much. My thoughts and those of the entire @WWE Universe are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Ric Flair: “I’m more than sorry to hear about the passing of the great and I do mean great Dory Funk Jr.! If you didn’t have the opportunity to wrestle a Funk, whether it be Dory or Terry, you missed the opportunity of a lifetime. The word wrestling and Funk are synonymous. There are not enough Mount Rushmores to accommodate everybody, but I’m sure that anyone who wrestled either one of them would agree that they’re on someone’s Mount Rushmore. So many thoughts on my mind right now as I’m coming home from a WrestleCon. I know we are all getting older, and i would emphasize to everyone, because you can’t buy time, to live every moment of your life to the fullest. Rest in peace my great friend Dory Funk Jr.! What a great ride you had!

Learned invaluable lesson from him when he was heading up the WWE Dojo system back in 1998. Dory was a very patient & passionate teacher & an even kinder human being. Rest In Power, my friend. Kurt Angle: “Dory Funk Jr. was a legend in many ways as a wrestler, a coach, and an incredible human being. I vividly remember the first time I had the privilege of meeting him at the “Dory Funkin Dojo” during a WWE tryout and training camp aimed at preparing young wrestlers for future performances on TV. Dory taught me the basics of pro wrestling, and there was no one better than him. He quickly took a liking to me and decided to be my coach and manager for my very first matches. His genius in our sport was unmatched, and his unique style and vast knowledge set him apart from others. Being “old school” was something I loved about him, but he also knew how to adapt to the evolving landscape of wrestling. Dory prepared me for my first matches in just five days, keeping things simple and basic so I could understand my movements in the ring. There will never be another like him. You will be sorely missed, Dory. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Shawn Michaels: “Dory Funk Jr. was one of the toughest, most respected men this business has ever known. His impact on professional wrestling will be felt for generations. Rest in peace Dory. My thoughts are with the Funk family.”

Boom Boom Groom: “Today I’m remembering and honoring Dory Funk Jr., the first man with a national and worldwide name in professional wrestling who truly invested in helping train me for this crazy business. His advice was always so simple: “Be yourself.” At 20 years old, I remember thinking, “What in the world does that even mean?” Years later, I finally understood. In wrestling—and in life—we learn which parts of ourselves are the most useful in the right situations… and which parts are better left behind, maybe never to be picked up again. Those two simple words of advice have stayed with me from the time I was 20 years old all the way to where I am today. Dory also taught me many of the fundamentals that I still use. One of them was his fireman’s carry. I’ve had people ask if I was trying to whip someone or give them whiplash. My answer is always the same: “That’s the Dory Funk fireman’s carry!” He gave me incredible opportunities in this business, including having me wrestle the legendary Japanese wrestler Osama Nishimura for the United States heavyweight championship in 2001. His training camp also became the place where I met my wife, Summer Rain, and the mother of my daughter. Because of Dory’s camp in Ocala, Florida, it was the very first city I ever visited in Florida—and it changed the course of my life forever. Thank you, Dory Funk Jr., for everything you did for me and for so many others in the wrestling world. Your influence will continue through every wrestler whose life you touched. May God rest your soul.
