NEWS
Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross stunned fans on his September 10th “Grilling JR” podcast, revealing he receives no royalties for WWE content featuring his iconic voice on Peacock, the streaming platform hosting WWE’s vast library since 2021. The 73-year-old, whose play-by-play defined WWE’s Attitude Era and beyond, expressed frustration over the lack of residuals for his decades of work, despite WWE’s lucrative $1 billion-plus Peacock deal. “I called those matches, poured my heart into ‘em, but I don’t see a dime from streaming,” Ross said, noting his current All Elite Wrestling contract doesn’t include WWE-era earnings. Ross, a WWE Hall of Famer, hinted at exploring legal options, though he remains skeptical of change. Fans on X erupted, with many calling the situation “unfair” for the voice behind countless “WrestleMania” moments. As WWE’s Netflix transition looms in 2026, Ross’s comments spotlight ongoing talent compensation debates.
On the latest episode of “Grilling JR”, Jim Ross expressed his utmost confidence in Bryan Danielson making the transition to commentary, saying that he will do a tremendous job every week on “AEW Dynamite”. Ross noted that Danielson is a“student of the game” and has knowledge that he’s happy to share. “I like the addition of him,” J. R. said. “It gets some knowledge out of a talent that has been kind of sequestered into…I don’t want to say oblivion, but Bryan’s a really smart guy and I’ve heard some of his work. I think he does a good job”. Danielson was recently added full time to the “Dynamite” commentary team with Excalibur and Taz. After earning praise for his commentary at “Forbidden Door”, Danielson joined the “Dynamite” announce team on a full-time basis last week. He’s now calling the show with Excalibur and Taz. J. R. said that Danielson works as hard at getting ready for a show just as he did getting ready for the ring and with that kind of work rate, everybody wins. “I think it’s good for our show and brand. Exposing Bryan Danielson is a smart thing, it’s good product placement, if you will,” J. R. continued. “Tony Khan’s got a great vision for things like that so I’m excited to see where it all heads.”
Recent matches added to AEW’s channel include Shane Taylor & Keith Lee vs. War Machine (Raymond Rowe & Hanson) from Ring of Honor’s “Survival of the Fittest 2016”.
On ESPN’s “Pardon My Take”, C. M. Punk named Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Terry Funk, Eddie Guerrero, Harley Race, and Dusty Rhodes as the six greatest wrestlers of all time.
Triple H responded to ESPN’s Stephen A Smith naming Goldberg as his top wrestler of all time "Let me break this down for you. What he does for a profession is piss people off, right? That's what he does. So what he did is he bait and switched you. He set up a list that is arguably accurate - Road Warriors, The Rock, [Hulk] Hogan, [Ric] Flair. He left out a few because it's just a top five. But then what he does is he comes in, and he Stephen A's it, and he goes, Goldberg at number one. Because he knows that is the name that is gonna piss off the maximum amount of people. "I'm not gonna say he's not great. I love Bill. I think he was a great performer, had great moments in this business. But putting him at one? Come on!"
The opening segment to NXT’s “Homecoming” that featured Triple H, Shawn Michaels, William Regal, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss has been uploaded to the WWE YouTube channel.
Recent WWE Vault additions include Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho from “Unforgiven 2008”, and Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton in a Boxer vs. Wrestler Match when Hatton was a guest host on “WWE Monday Night RAW” back in 2009.
The “Hall of Legends” expansion for WWE 2K25 will include Goldberg and Nikki Bella.
FOX13 in Memphis, TN spoke to Jerry “The King” Lawler following his recent stroke. The WWE Hall of Famer told the news station that days before the stroke, he was not taking his medication and had trouble with his vision, including not recognizing his own house when he got to his Florida condo. “I remember lying in the bed in the hospital and when people that I knew, like family members, came in and I didn’t even recognize them,” the 75-year-old told FOX13. “People kept coming out of nowhere to thank me and to pray for me. All of that means such a great, great deal to me and I want to thank them for all that”. Lawler has learned his lesson and is now concentrating on recovery and taking his medicine. This is the third stroke that Lawler has suffered over the past several years, with the first one in 2018 and that was followed by a big one in 2023, which has affected his speech and writing.
