Super J-Cast reports that Walker Stewart will be the new English-language play-by-play voice of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Jake Hager has stated that he is done with MMA. “Officially, I’m retired from MMA. I trained hard last year but Bellator was jerking me off. I retired and I am now just focusing on wrestling,” he said during a virtual signing.
In a post on social media, Gail Kim revealed that she suffered a concussion at “Impact 1000” during the mutli-woman tag team match. Kim was pulled from the ring by Velvet Sky and bumped her head pretty badly on the floor but continued the match regardless. "I didn’t want to initially show the clip but I thought in the end, it’s important to show everything," she wrote. "I want to stress here though: I WILL NOT CONDONE ANY ATTACKING BEHAVIOR OR BULLYING TOWARDS VELVET OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THIS CLIP." Kim said that as a pro wrestler, they all know the risks and "shit happens." She said it's not her first, and perhaps not even her last, concussion. The Impact Hall of Famer showed that she has been going for oxygen treatments in chambers at the Physical Chiropractic Clinic in Tampa, FL. Kim was joined by Mickie James, Awesome Kong, Jordynne Grace, and Impact Knockouts champion Trinity in the match against Deonna Purrazzo, Tasha Steelz, Angelina Love, Gisele Shaw, and Savannah Evans.
Joey Ryan’s latest employment venture is yet another “people person” role at a public attraction. Ryan was one of the people heavily affected by the “Speaking Out” movement. Ryan had been, in the past, one of the more out there characters in wrestling, with much of his gimmick revolving around his penis. It’s been a while since Joey Ryan has reared his ugly head. He had a brief attempt last year to try launch a public speaking career, an attempt that was buried by wrestling fans aware of Ryan’s past discretions. Previously, Ryan had even began working for DisneyLand, something that was also noted and exposed by wrestling fans. Now, in 2023, Ryan has once again reared his head, this time at a horror night attraction at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Ryan has not wrestled since 2020, when he finished up a run with Impact Wrestling. He attempted to counter sue the victims who came out and accused him of assault, with many of them being thrown out almost immediately in March of 2021. Ryan has always maintained his innocence despite the accusations made against him. Ryan also failed to sue Impact Wrestling in a lawsuit as well.
Kevin Nash has no intention of letting Larry Zbyszko’s claim that he was behind the creation of the New World Order go unchecked. During a Q&A a little while ago, Zbyszko made the claim that he was the mind behind the creation of the faction. “Well, to be honest with you, I’m the one that programmed the whole angle. They had a meeting in the back one day and I found out what was going on with Scott Hall coming in, and they had some ideas. Then Eric looked around and said, ‘Anybody got anything to say’, and I raised my hand, and he went, ‘Oh God, what?’ and I laid out a different idea. I programmed the whole beginning how Scott Hall came in, and then Nash and Syxx-Pac.” During a recent “Kliq This” podcast, Nash fired back at this idea that Zbyszko came up with the nWo stable. “The only problem with Larry’s story is that I was signed to a deal. Pac wasn’t. He wasn’t coming. So I gotta say that’s the first I’ve heard of it. I call bullsh*t. It’s crazy because the only person I ever had a conversation with was Eric and Kevin Sullivan. Eric Bischoff says it best. You ask five people that were in a room in ’93 a story and you will get f*cking five completely different answers.” For what it’s worth, Bischoff has also claimed in the past that Zbyszko was the one who coined the name of the faction.
One of the more surprising WWE employee layoffs this past week was Dana Warrior, the widow of WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior. Dana had been employed in the company’s Community Outreach department.
Caleb Smith of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled “Wendi Richter loved her Cyndi Lauper makeover”, which you can read by clicking here.
On “Talk is Jericho”, Dave Meltzer discussed the life and career of Terry Funk. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here.
