Matches uploaded to WWE’s YouTube channel this past week include MVP vs. Kane vs. MVP in an Inferno Match from "Armageddon 2006" and Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs. The Undertaker in a Casket Match from the October 31, 2008 episode of "SmackDown".
Jim Cornette gave his thoughts on various topics on his "Jim Cornette Experience". During the podcast, Cornette spoke about Chris Jericho, who recently signed a new deal with AEW that will see him elevated to the roles of producer and creative advisor. Cornette stated how he would prefer to keep Jon Moxley around if he had to choose between Moxley and Jericho because on the basis that fans haven’t already seen everything from ‘The Death Rider’: “Yeah, and I said the same thing for Moxley [denying star power]. And that’s why I kept Moxley and thinking that hopefully that he would be able to do as instructed. Jericho at this point, though, he’s been there, we’ve seen it. I think if you were to keep [him] you can’t change Chris’ mind, he’s firmly stuck in 15 years ago WWF. And he wants to be the guy and he’s trying to run everybody out of his way. But if you could control his personality, and you could send him home for a while with an injury or whatever, and let people miss him because he went away and bring him back as Chris Jericho, legendary wrestler. He’s a babyface and he comes back and has a program with another top guy, that might work, but now he’s just been hanging around for so long and doing his stupid sh*t and people are tuning out in droves and he’s surrounded with job guys so he can be the star. And he ain’t getting anybody over, so I wouldn’t have a spot for him right now.”
O. D. B. was a recent guest on "The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast" to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the time she spent at Ohio Valley Wrestling, O. D. B. praised Al Snow and how underrated he is as a trainer. "Training under Al Snow which I think he’s so underrated. You don’t realize how many people he made,” she said. “He has a great mind for wrestling. Shit. That’s who I owe a lot of my credit for because he just always told me he’s like, ‘You’re a woman. Don’t wrestle like a guy.’ That’s the main thing he always told us, ‘Stop wrestling like a dude with boobs.’ And it was so true. Like, no one wants to see — you know, I mean, nowadays, it’s a little different, but you’re still women.” When asked what she was doing that Snow didn’t like, O. D. B. spoke about the advice that Snow gave her as he allowed her to be herself. “He would always tell all of us girls when you guys have matches, still do girl — not girly stuff, but still, don’t do like the guys,” O. D. B. said. “Like if you grab a head, do something different. Just add a little uniqueness instead of pulling the hair but change it up, I guess. He’s given me so much advice, and basically, he let me be me. And he believed in me, which was cool. “And he just said less is more. You can go out there and not do shit because I wasn’t the best. I’m not a technical wrestler. I just had basically my four moves, and I worked around it, and that’s what he told me. He’s like, just pick out your four moves, nothing fancy. And just do your thing. Character, that’s what it’s all about. Like, everyone wants to see O. D. B. go bam and drink from her flask. That’s about it.”
Oklafan congratulates Clayton Bloodstone, who recently surpassed 6 months as NCWO Choctaw Nation Champion. He defeated Ky-Ote for the title in a Triple Threat Match that also included Dominik Whiteheart on April 22, 2022 at an event in McAlester.
Lee Cook broke his hand on October 24th. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Jose Rivera, who passed away from a heart attack on October 13, 2022 at the age of 75 years old. Rivera had his greatest success in the Caribbean, working in the World Wrestling Council as a tag team partner of Carlos Colon, but had quite a bit of singles success there as well. He also competed in the WWWF as well as various other territories in the United States as well as companies in Japan. Rivera spent approximately 3 months in the Oklahoma area, from May to August of 1973. Many of his matches were against Alex Perez, including the earliest recorded result for him: a loss to Perez on May 21, 1973 in Tulsa. Rivera reappeared again in July, but his success got no better. He continued to wrestle matches against Perez, who was teaming with El Gran Tapio by that point. Rivera found himself a partner in La Pantera Negra and engaged in multiple matches, all of which he lost. Perhaps his highest profile loss was against Ali Vaziri (the future Iron Sheik). His last documented match in Oklahoma was the only win on his record: A victory over Bobby Whitlock on August 27, 1973. After that, he seems to have departed the TSW territory and made his way up to the Central States and St. Louis territories and then departed for a tour in Japan. By 1976, he was in Puerto Rico where he would stay until retiring from full-time competition in 1983. In total, Rivera competed on 8 documented Oklahoma-based cards.
Oklafan extends condolence to the family and friends of Michael Snap, who competed under multiple names in his career. He passed away October 22, 2022 after suffering a stroke at the age of 47 years old. Snap began his career as Snap Studley, a tag team wrestler with his "brother" Romeo "Bud" Studley. Together the duo would feud with The Texas Outlaws in OPW and won the Texas Tag Team Titles that the Outlaws carried with them on January 1, 1999. Sadly, those titles were never verified as being legitimate championships and that would be Snap's only championship claim. The Studleys had success over many of the established OPW Teams such as The Casualties of War and The Sin City Assassins. But after losing the Texas Tag Team Titles back to The Texas Outlaws, The Studleys broke apart and Snap dropped the Studley name, competing simply as Snap. He would continue to compete in OPW through November 1999 and while he got wins over stars such as Rocco Valentino and Bull Schmitt, he never seemed to get momentum under him and was never in contention for any championships for the rest of his time in the company. Snap departed OPW and left wrestling for several years, before reappearing when SRPW started up in 2003. He appeared revitalized and got several wins after restarting his career. Shortly after reappearing in SRPW, Snap adopted the name Chris Dent. He spent about 6 months competing under this name and focused his attention primarily in the Hardcore Division, though he never captured that title. For 2 events in February, 2004, Snap adopted the identity of The Stalker [1st], both of these matches were losses and he quickly abandoned this identity. April 2, 2004 saw the final incarnation of Snap as Chris Kahne. As Kahne, he made his way into contention for the SRPW Boys & Girls Club Title, but again, never managed to capture that championship. He also competed in several matches with Shane Morbid, Prophet, Dirty Harry Sanchez, and Pork Chop. After competing regularly through 2004, Kahne only made 2 appearances in 2005. He teamed with Shane Morbid and lost to Dexter Hardaway & Bobby Dalton in the opening round of a tournament for the SRPW Tag Team Titles. He then lost a Triple Threat Match with Brandon Groom to Bobby Burns. Returning to the name Snap, he would make one final SRPW appearance on June 2, 2006 where he would lose to Pork Chop. Snap then took another long break from in-ring wrestling, but would serve as part of the OPW Training school in 2011 and 2012. Some of the men he helped train include Roberto Camacho, Kyle Kelly, and perhaps most notably, Mr. Nasty. Snap would make his last in-ring appearance at an event in Kansas run by Bull Schmitt. He competed as a completely new character known as American Muta. Snap competed once as American Muta at SRPW on November 15, 2012, where he lost to Kid Krazy by DQ. While he intended to bring that character to Oklahoma regularly and make a comeback, a stroke in 2013 forced him into retirement. He would make appearances as Khriss Shannon in OWA in 2014, managing Goldeneye on several occasions. Those would mark the end of his wrestling career. In total, Snap appeared on 56 documented Oklahoma events, the earliest being an OPW event on October 4, 1998, where he and Bud Studley defeated The Casualties of War and the last being an OWA event on April 19, 2014 in Sperry, where he managed Goldeneye to a loss to Super Skunk Ape, Jr. by DQ.
