Oklafan is saddened to report the death of Michael Faith, who passed away from complications due to COVID-19 on November 17, 2020 at the age of 46. Faith, whose real name was Hyrum Matthew Hansen, graduated from Yukon HIgh school and eventually made his way into wrestling by training with Tom Jones in Oklahoma City and Rocco Valentino in Tulsa. Though a large man (and he would get larger as his career progressed), Faith was exceptionally athletic and could move like a Cruiserweight, earning one of many nicknames to follow him in his career, “The Largedore”. Faith debuted March 23, 1999 and apparently used the name Kid Extreme early in his career. But by December 31, 1999, which is the earliest officially documented match of his, he was going by Michael Faith. That match was a loss to Bryan Cruize in NMS in Oklahoma City. March 18th would see Faith debut in OPW in Tulsa and he would spend much of his formative years splitting time between OPW and NMS (which later became MSWA). Those early years also saw trips to Kansas where he became Midwest Wrestling Federation Kansas Champion. Faith’s OPW debut was on Hardcore Night, where he lost a Hardcore Match to Cole Crittenden. He would not return for 4 months where he would begin an on again/off again rivalry with Splash Jackson that would carry over into OCW. Faith would continue to make periodic appearances in OPW. On March 24, 2001, he lost an Indian Strap Match to Renegade. After that, he teamed briefly with Dark Angel, but that team stopped after a loss to The VIP Crew. In fact, the losses continued to mount as he again lost to Splash Jackson as well as Luc Lapointe. But on September 8, 2001, he teamed with Dynamite Extreme and this successful trio faced off against other trios such as The VIP Crew and The Texas Outlaws. Faith’s final appearance in OPW was a loss in a Triple Threat Match to Splash Jackson that also included The Great Bolo. In 2002, Faith debuted in OCW, losing to OCW Oklahoma Champion Vinnie Valentino. Several opponents that he had never gotten the opportunity to face in OPW now found their way across the ring from him in OCW, but perhaps most interestingly was a tag team loss where he teamed with Terry Montana and lost to The Great Bolo & Smash Hansen, who was Faith’s brother (though that was not known in Tulsa). Faith and Hansen would eventually face off one-on-one, with Hansen picking up the victory. Faith also reformed his partnership with Dynamite Extreme and took on ICF & Brandon Groom, which led to a singles match with Groom. But it was a singles loss to Big Daddy Moore which would prove to lead him ultimately to his first gold in Tulsa. By this point, Faith & Hansen were recognized as brothers and on October 26, 2002, they would defeat Big Daddy Moore & Karl Davis for the OCW Oklahoma Tag Team Titles. Much of their time as champions would end them facing combinations of The Casulaties of War. They held the titles until they were stripped of them for non-defense on January 5, 2003. However, in an odd note, they entered the tournament which began that day to crown new OCW Tag Team Champions. Those champions were never crowned as OCW closed in March of 2003. But Faith and Hansen, now known as Halo were not bereft of gold as they exchanged the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles on at least one occasion with Northern Threat. Faith would make a handful of appearances in SRPW, debuting against SRPW Champion Vinnie Valeninto in a loss. He also teamed with Perry Saturn and lost to Slater Vain (the renamed Valentino) & SRPW Champion Beau Dalton. And he defeated Brandon Bishop twice. But SRPW did not seem to be for him and by the end of 2003, he debuted in TPW, teaming with Angel and defeating TPW Champion The Outcast and TPW Women’s Champion Kitty. Faith would become a regular in TPW, facing many stars that he had in OPW and OCW, as well as new ones. He introduced Draven Cross as his new partner, though that partnership was was brief. Faith also defeated Striker for the MSWA Mid-South Title around this time. In TPW, he began a rivalry with AWOL, which seemed to be leading him the #1 contendership to the TPW Oklahoma Title, but instead, found himself as TPW Champion by beating Butch Dalton in a Triple Threat Match that also involved Karl Davis on May 21, 2004. He would hold that title until August 6, 2004, when he lost it to Beau Dalton. He then reformed his partnership with Halo and they began to cut a path to the TPW Tag Team Titles through teams like The Violence Alliance and New Canada. While pushing towards success in TPW, Faith and Halo were also making waves in MSWA. The Forsaken were just as unstoppable there and on May 28, 2005, they teamed with their manager, Tommy D, to defeat MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions The Oklahoma Bad Boys and MSWA Mid-South Champion Angel Williams with the stipulation that those titles were on the line. In Tulsa, Faith found himself with another opportunity to win the TPW Oklahoma Title on July 29, 2005. Again, this was a loss to Anthony Jackson for the vacant title, but 2 weeks later, on August 13, 2005, he and Halo defeated New Canada for the vacant TPW Tag Team Titles. Though not known by the general public at the time, Faith had purchased TPW during the hiatus. One week later, The Forsaken would lose the MSWA Titles to The Red Dirt Outlaws, who would be the first to challenge them for the TPW Tag Team Titles. And Faith added even more gold when he defeated Outlaw on October 22, 2005 for the MSWA Mid-South Title. A month later, a possible setback occurred and Halo suffered a head injury that forced him to retire for a time, but Faith chose a replacement partner in the form of Justin Lee. Their championship reign would continue until December 17, 2005, when they were defeated by Sexy Bologna. Faith seemed virtually unstoppable in 2006. Though he was stripped of the MSWA Title in early 2006, the rest of the year saw him essentially undefeated in MSWA, facing challenges like Cody Jones and Draven Cross and teaming with Bad Boy & Vader against The Real Impact Players & Angel Williams for a victory. On April 8th, he achieved a lifelong dream and defeated Romero Contreras for the TPW Oklahoma Title. He would be the last to hold that title as the company would close May 13, 2006. But Faith maintained the title, turning it into the MSWA Oklahoma Title and wanting to make it a true title representing all of Oklahoma and defended in multiple companies. Faith would enter IZW in July 15, 2006, but his tenure there was nothing of note. He competed against most of their top stars including John O’Malley (who was his opponent in his IZW debut), Ryan Davidson, Michael Barry, and Brad Michaels. He won none of those matches and was gone by January of 2007. Before he left IZW, Faith got another bit opportunity, but not in that company. On October 26, 2006, he debuted in UWF06 against Buff Bagwell. After time off, Faith would return to UWF06 and continuing on when it became 3DW. He was undefeated in 3DW, eventually defeating 3DW Champion Shane Rawls for the title on July 5, 2008. By this point, Faith had also returned to MSWA and plowed through competition as a singles star. But he would shock everyone on July 20, 2008 when Halo returned and they defeated Limited Edition for the MSWA Tag Team Titles. Meanwhile, another name change occurred in the Ardmore area as 3DW became TCBW. Faith made two defenses of the (now) TCBW Title, a win over Dane Griffin and a loss by DQ to Thug Nasty, but was stripped of the title for unknown reasons before May 6, 2009. He and Halo also lost the MSWA Tag Team Titles when they teamed with Crisstopher Crow against TMS. Another year away from Oklahoma wrestling saw him return to NWA-OK. He had made a couple of appearances in late 2008, but returned in 2010 and won a 4-Way Match over Brad Michaels, NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Kevin Douglas, and NWA-OK Oklahoma Champion Dane Griffin for the NWA-OK Title. He held it until June 6, 2011 when he lost it to Tim Storm. Faith made one more venture into IZW, but that was known by no one except those backstage. On May 19, 2012, Faith debuted the character of Convict. He would only portray Convict on a few occasions before again leaving IZW due to creative differences and the role passed on to someone else. By this point, Faith was competing more and more regularly in Texas, making inroads to Reality of Wrestling and River City Wrestling, where he was a 4-Time Champion (once as a co-champion with Brandon Groom) as well as an RCW Tag Team Champion with Hernandez. He also captured the NWA Texas Title. Faith’s final documented Oklahoma appearance was on April 13, 2013, where he lost to NWA-TXO Champion Tim Storm by DQ at an NWA-TXO event in Ardmore. In total, Faith competed in over 150 documented matches in Oklahoma. But when most people, especially those who were priveleged to share a locker room with him or to know him well outside wrestling, think of him, they remember a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. A man who always had time for people, who enjoyed good conversations and who brought joy to those around him. Oklafan extends its condolences to Faith’s family, especially his brother Halo and his ex-wife Darling Nikki, at this time.
