Other Facts: -Husband of Whisper, formerly of The Nitro Girls
-Cousin of pro wrestler Matt Bentley, who he helped train for pro wrestling
-His daughter Cheyenne and his son Cameron both work behind the scenes for WWE. Cheyenne is in the make-up and costume department, while his son works in the art department.
-Sometimes spelled his name "Sean Michaels'. He is not to be confused with the adult film actor of the same name. In 2003, the WWE issued a Cease and Desist order to the adult actor, but Sean Michaels had trademarked his name, while Shawn Michaels had not.
-Sometimes billed from Georgia
-Trained for pro wrestling by Jose Lothario
-Is ambidextrous and had difficulty telling right from left.
-Performed a wrestling routine for his high school talent show, complete with fake blood.
-Lost his debut match to Art Crews
-On October 30, 1990, The Rockers unofficially won the WWF World Tag Team Titles from The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart), as Neidhart, half of the championship team, was in the process of negotiating his release from the company. The match was taped with The Rockers winning the title, but soon after Neidhart came to an agreement with management and was rehired. The championship was returned to The Hart Foundation, while the title change was never broadcast or even acknowledged on television (though The Rockers did have a successful title defense on November 3, 1990, against Power & Glory (Hercules & Paul Roma) before the title was returned to The Hart Foundation). When news spread, WWF explained that the original result was void due to a collapsed turnbuckle in the ring during the bout. A buckle had indeed broken, but not to a noticeable or dangerous extent during the match
-At Survivor Series 1990, Michaels, w/ Marty Janetty, Jimmy Snuka, & captain Jake Roberts lost to Power & Glory, The Warlord, & captain Rick Martel 4 - 0. It was the first "clean sweep" in Survivor Series history.
-Opened the show at WrestleMania VII, VIII & IX. H is the only wrestler to open 3 straight WrestleManias.
-The ladder match at WrestleMania X went longer than scheduled, causing a 10-man tag team match to get cut from the show. As well as all 10 men being angry, Randy Savage personally chewed out Michaels for being selfish after the match.
-Led a backstage group called "The Kliq", which were accused of holding down many talents in the mid-to-late 1990s.
-Took part in an event infamously known as The Curtain Call. After defeating Diesel, they, along with Razor Ramon and Hunter Hearst Helmsley all entered the ring and embraced. This was a huge violation of kayfabe at the time, since Michaels was feuding with Diesel and while he and Razor were faces, Diesel and Helmsley were heels. Because Michaels was WWF World Champion at the time, he could not be punished for doing this.
-Was supposed to face Bret Hart in a rematch for the WWF World Title at WrestleMania XIII, but real-life heat between the two had boiled to such a point that Michaels faked a knee injury and relinquished the title. While in the ring giving up the belt, he made a comment about "losing his smile", a phrase which is now often associated with a wrestler taking time off because he doesn't want to do something the booker wants him to do.
-Defeated Bret Hart for the WWF World Title at Survivor Series in 1997 in what is often referred to as the "Montreal Screwjob". In the finish of the match, Michaels turned Bret over into a Sharpshooter submission hold and referee Earl Hebner signaled for the bell, even though Bret never submitted. Exactly who was aware that this finish was going to happen has become a hotly debated issue. Michaels originally denied any knowledge of the events being planned before finally admitting in a shoot interview that he was in on the plan.
-At one point, a match between Michaels and Eddie Guerrero was penciled in for WrestleMania 22.
-Suffered a crushed disc and 2 herniated discs in his back during a Casket Match against The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in 1998. He would retire from wrestling after losing the WWF World Title to Steve Austin later that year and would not return to in-ring competition until 2002. He would retire for a second time at WrestleMania XVII after losing to The Undertaker in a Career-vs-Streak Match
-Is a born-again Christian. This was exploited in an angle in the WWE once where he faced Vince and Shane McMahon and his tag team partner was "God". (Essentially making it a Handicap Match)
-Helped train Hernandez for pro wrestling
-Former member of The Corporation
-Former member of D-Generation X
-Former member of the nWo
-Former co-owner of Texas Wrestling Alliance
-Former commissioner of the WWF
-His entrance music "Sexy Boy" was originally sung by his then-manager Sensational Sherri. After he and Sherri parted ways, it was rerecorded with Michaels singing the lyrics.
-Appeared in an issue of "Playgirl" magazine in 1996. He did not pose nude, but did have the WWF World Title "strategically" placed in the pictures.
-His autobiography "Heartbreak & Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story" was released in 2005
-A second autobiography, "Wrestling For My Life" was released in 2015
-Appeared in the movie "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone" in 2016
-Appeared in an episode of the TV shows "Dave the Barbarian" and "South Beach" in 2006, appeared in two episodes of the TV show "Pacific Blue" in 1999, and an episode of the TV show "Baywatch" in 1996
