-When he began wrestling in Florida in 1984, the announcers and TV broadcasters incorrectly called him Jim "The Animal" Nighthart
-In 1987, he was accused of assaulting a flight attendant on a flight to Pittsburgh, but got acquitted thanks to the efforts of attorney Jerry McDevitt. This was the beginning of McDevitt's long and successful association with the WWF/WWE (his highest profile case being the McMahon steroid trial).
