Is Lapointe Chasing a Tag Team Rainbow?

Is Lapointe Chasing a Tag Team Rainbow?

Posted: Sep 7th 2007 By: CMBurnham

One of the most succesful tag team competitors in Oklahoma is SWCW Sooner Xtreme Champion Luc Lapointe. He has held tag team gold in 5 different federations with 4 different partners, proving himself to be adaptable to most team situations. Most recently Luc has allied himself with Beau Dalton, initially in the P.I.N.K. Nation, then carrying over into the Family in AACW before simply carrying on as the odd couple of "The Captain" and "The Punk Vampire.

Despite holding a coveted SWCW singles title, Luc still seems to have tag team gold on his mind as he spent last weekend exclusively in tag team competition, wrestling 3 matches with 2 different partners. Sadly, despite a strong tag team pedigree, Lapointe came up with 0 wins and might need to concentrate on the gold he has, rather than the gold he wants.

Lapointe's weekend started in MSWA as he and Beau Dalton challenged MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Bad Boy & Outlaw for the gold. The result of this match was a double DQ as the match spilled out of control and MSWA officials were quick to sign a rematch for the following day with an added stipulation: it would be a Street Fight!

That wasn't the end for Lapointe & Dalton on Saturday as both men competed in the Triple Threat Match to determine the #1 contender to the SWCW Tag Team Titles against Trailer Park Trash and Corporate America. Insiders suggested that Lapointe and Dalton had a great chance to win this match, due to the relative inexperience of Ray Martinez & Matt Emerald and the size advantage both teams had over J. C. & K. C. But, in a surprising show of intelligence, TPT took advantage of the rules, which stated that wrestlers did not have to solely tag their partners and when both TPT members were put into the match, one twin laid down and the other pinned him, gaining TPT the #1 contendership again. Lapointe & Dalton were outraged as they left as it seemed unfeasible to have been outsmarted by TPT.

What happened next is unclear. What's known is that Beau Dalton did not appear for his Mid-South Tag Team Title shot on Sunday. There was speculation that he had been injured in one of his previous matches, possibly an aggravation of the wrist injury he suffered on August 19 against the New Style Outsiders. There was also speculation that he had angered some of the fans at the Labor Daze Biker Rally (where the MSWA shows were being held) so much that he was afraid to show back up again. What is known is that when Lapointe arrived for his title shot, he was accompanied by Kevin Morgan and a new manager, The Super Destroyer. Neither team held anything back as belts, whips and even Lapointe's giant shield were brought into play, but despite all the treachery he & Morgan could muster, Lapointe still ended up on the losing end and Bad Boy & Outlaw retained their gold once again.

With all this concentration on tag team wrestling, has Lapointe forgotten that he has a title of his own to defend on August 29 at the SWCW Night of Champions? Right now, his opponent is unknown, but speculation is rampant. Former champion Prophet is surely waiting for a rematch. Perhaps 3rd Rail would be interested in making Luc's belt his first single's gold. Or maybe Damien Morte could bring a little hardcore edge to the Xtreme Title. Hopefully, all this hasn't escaped Lapointe. Singles wrestling is very different from tag team wrestling and if Luc comes to rely on having a partner to tag out to, he might find himself without the precious gold that a pirate captain of his calibre has come to enjoy.
