Bill Goldberg, who graduated from Edison High School, will be the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018.

Goldberg played football for the University of Georgia and appeared as a defensive lineman in 14 games for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons from 1992-94.

During the late 1990s and into the early 2000s, he was one of pro wrestling’s most popular and successful champions. In 2015, he staged a comeback that carried into 2017 as an active performer.

He debuted on TV in late 1997. He was known for his streak of being unbeaten: He went 173-0, winning both the WCW United States championship and WCW world championship. His first loss was in a controversial match to Kevin Nash.

After wrestling, he acted on TV and in movies, including the remake of “The Longest Yard” with Adam Sandler.

Goldberg played a homicidal maniac in “The Longest Yard.” He didn’t need a lot of coaching on the field.

“You know, it was pretty easy considering I had been playing that guy in the ring for a long time,” Goldberg told the Tulsa World during an interview while promoting the movie.

The hall of fame ceremony is April 6 at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center. He and the rest of the WWE Hall of Fame Class will then appear at the Mercedes Benz Superdome during WrestleMania.
