Von Erich family returning to Ardmore for Oklamania II

Von Erich family returning to Ardmore for Oklamania II

Throughout the history of professional wrestling, there have been certain names which have been associated with proud legacies.

One of the most well recognized and most beloved names in Southern Oklahoma and down into Texas is the famous Von Erich family.

During the 1980's, the Von Erich’s were one of the most recognizable wrestling families across Texas and Oklahoma, as Kerry, Fritz, David, Kevin, Chris, and Mike were all known for their wrestling abilities in World Class Championship Wrestling at the world famous Sportatorium, along with their charming good looks outside the ring.

Now, more than 30 years later, a new generation of Von Erich’s are continuing the proud family legacy.

Marshall and Ross Von Erich will be just two of the featured attractions for the upcoming Imperial Wrestling Revolution Oklamania II event, which will be held on Oct. 7 at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum.

The Von Erich boys will be defending their IWR tag team titles on that night, and to make the evening more special, the one and only Kevin Von Erich will be in attendance as the legendary wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer will mark his return to Oklahoma for the first time in more than 20 years. This will also mark the first time Kevin will see his sons defend their tag team championships.

“This show is about putting on a great event for people and helping them forget about the stress from the week,” Marshall said during a recent podcast interview. “What a beautiful sport wrestling is.”

The Hardy Murphy Coliseum holds a special memory for Marshall and his brother Ross, as during a show in the 80's in Ardmore, the occasion marked the first time the brothers were able to see their dad wrestle in person.

“We said our pre-match prayer before that match,” Von Erich said. “That night my brother and myself felt our grandfather, uncles and our dad all around us. We have so much history in Ardmore, and that was just a dream come true for us getting to be there and experience it.”

“Everything comes full circle in this business,” Von Erich added. “There’s so much beauty in wrestling and so much we all learn from wrestling. As soon as you wake up on the day of the show you are on the clock. If the fans don’t want to come see your show, then you aren’t doing something right. For someone to say that my dad or my uncle impacted someone’s life, that’s something I never get tired of.”

IWR Chief Executive Officer Jerry Bostic said having the Von Erich’s back in Ardmore is emotional for him, but it’s a proud moment.

“I liked wrestling to begin with, but when I saw them wrestle that show in Ardmore back in the 80's, I fell in love with the sport,” he said. “Having Marshall, Ross and Kevin here is something very special and something pure wrestling fans in this area won’t want to miss.”

Other names who are scheduled to appear at the event include Sting, Chavo Guerrero, Bully Ray, among many others.

Before the wrestling starts on Oct. 7 there will be an all-day Convention event from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. where fans can get autographs along with photos with multiple wrestlers.

Bell time for the wrestling is set for 7 p.m.
