NEWS
Fans who attended the NWA Wildside Reunion show last Saturday night at The Landmark Arena in Cornelia, GA got a big surprise as the WWE United States Champion A. J. Styles showed up at the event with his title. The champ made a surprise appearance at the promotion that he started with back in 1999. It’s at NWA Wildside that he renamed himself A. J. Styles after using his real name. Styles wrestled for NWA Wildside every now and then even after he went to TNA in its early years and he is a former NWA Georgia Heavyweight Champion. Styles was not promoted for the show at all. Promotional material for the Reunion show said that over 50 returning stars from the Wildside years would be appearing. The company closed its doors in 2005 after running hundreds of shows out of a small former school gym in Cornelia and other locations throughout the state of Georgia. The company is owned by Bill Behrens.

WWE United States Champion A. J. Styles represented The Club by wearing a mask to the ring at Saturday’s WWE live event in Osaka, Japan. Styles retained his title over Kevin Owens at the show.

Just to clear up the Jinder Mahal thing from last Saturday night. Mahal was not going to be in Arjan Singh Bhullar's corner for his MMA fight as was first reported. That was misinterpreted. Mahal and Bhullar are friends, and he was going to attend the show, but he felt with his different properties in Florida, that he couldn't afford to leave during the weekend with Hurricane Irma expected.

The Miz passed The Honky Tonk Man on Thursday to become the third-longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history in terms of total days. Pedro Morales and Don Muraco are ahead of him.

WWE video games are pretty popular, especially mobile ones, and last week, Reliance Games announced a multi-year deal with WWE to develop WWE Mayhem, an arcade action game with over-the-top signature moves enhanced by unlockable content when used in conjunction with items from a forthcoming Mattel action figure line. The game will allow players to take control of WWE’s most popular Legends including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Goldberg, as well as the current roster of fan favorites such as John Cena, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. “Reliance is excited to be working with WWE so tightly to create this experience,” said Amit Khanduja, CEO, Reliance Entertainment, Digital. “WWE is known worldwide for the energy and explosiveness that they bring every single night. We couldn’t be more excited to help translate this excitement to mobile.” Casey Collins, WWE Executive Vice President, Consumer Products, added, “WWE Mayhem brings action and entertainment for the entire family with simple gameplay mechanics for casual players and deep progression elements for core gamers. Reliance’s history of working with world-class brands and their expertise in free-to-play mobile gaming made them the natural choice to partner with on this exciting new game.”

The WWE Network Flashback Friday last week was about Bill Goldberg.

Jerry Lawler did a double-shot last Saturday, working a match in Dyresburg, TN against Matt Riviera, and then headed to Jackson, TN for a match with Carlito. He may be the oldest wrestler to do that kind of a double-shot. He was asked about it and said he didn't think he had done a double-shot since the territory days, so that's going back 20 plus years. In two weeks, Lawler and Terry Funk will be on opposing teams in a 6-Man Tag Team Match.

On Monday, Ric Flair posted a couple of photos on Twitter looking certainly better, sporting his Rolex, gold chain around his neck, and a suit. Now, the Nature Boy is already in front of a camera, filming a sit-down video for an unidentified project. “Back in front of the camera like I never left…with a couple pounds of solid gold and diamonds around my neck,” tweeted Flair. The pictures show Flair in good condition and smiling, just a month removed from his close calll with death. Flair still has not regained his full weight as it is pretty evident by his face but things are looking very promising. Flair is still in hospital and it looks like the video he was shooting was held in there as well.

Mick Foley is currently in the hospital and undergoing a knee replacement. He posted a photo on Twitter from the hospital bed giving the thumbs up and said he will update everyone once he kicks out of anesthesia. This is his second surgery in five months, having gone under the knife for a hip replacement back in April after he was “fired” from his duties as RAW General Manager. Foley is getting his right knee replaced. The man known as the "hardcore legend" has not moved properly in years after a couple of decades of punishment on his body. He was in serious need of a hip replacement but admitted last year he couldn’t afford it and did not have insurance to cover it.

Caleb Smith of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "Terry Funk shares his thoughts on then and now" which you can read by clicking here.

Oklafan congratulates Eddie Adamson on his marriage on Friday.
