NEWS
WWE is going all out for the "Mae Young Classic" tournament finals and will be hosting a fully-loaded red carpet event on Tuesday live from Las Vegas, NV. The red carpet coverage will be hosted by Cathy Kelley and will stream live on WWE’s Facebook starting at 6pm Eastern (5pm Central). Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, former Team USA soccer star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo, WWE COO Triple H, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, The Bella Twins (Nikki Bella & Brie Bella), Charlotte Flair, Bayley as well as cast members of the hit Netflix series GLOW will also be on hand Tuesday. Several competitors of the tournament have been invited back for the event and WWE Hall of Famers Madusa and Beth Phoenix will be in attendance as well. The MYC tournament finals will air on the WWE Network immediately following the conclusion of Smackdown at 10pm Eastern (9pm Central). The final match will see popular Japanese sensation Kairi Sane taking on former UFC fighter Shayna Baszler.

A new WWE Network Collection on WWE Hall of Famer Sting became available last Monday. The synopsis for the collection reads "Sit down with Sting for WWE Network’s newest Collection. In an exclusive interview, “The Icon” himself looks back at a historic career and reflects on legendary rivals and memorable matches. A clash with Ric Flair put The Stinger on the map, the confidence to stand up to The nWo made him the franchise, and enshrinement into the WWE Hall of Fame made him an icon. Relive it all with this definitive look at the man called Sting."

The Miz moved up to fourth place in the longest Intercontinental title reigns in WWF/WWE history, surpassing Tito Santana this past weekend. After defeating Jeff Hardy on RAW last Monday, his reign is now at 445 days, inching him closer to The Honky Tonk Man, who's one reign totalled 454 days. It would take a couple of more months to get in second place in total days and surpass Don Muraco who is at 541 total combined days. This is the seventh title reign with the Intercontinental Title for The Miz.

Jinder Mahal was supposed to accompany debuting fighter Arjan Bhullar (who is of Indian descent) to the Octagon at UFC 215 on Saturday but didn't make an appearance. Ariel Helwani wrote it is because Mahal is stuck in Florida due to Hurricane Irma.

Responding to a tweet from The Singh Brothers, The Rock told them and Jinder Mahal that they are doing great.

On his podcast this week, which also included an appearance by Bret Hart, Jerry Lawler said that WWE did not contact him about joining the SmackDown commentary team on a full-time basis when JBL left. Lawler noted that it would have been a difficult decision to make if they did.

Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated published a report saying that Anthem is looking to sell off GFW/Impact Wrestling as it has been “hemorrhaging” funds ever since they took over. The report, backed by sources who are close to Anthem, says that with Jeff Jarrett out of his position, the company’s future is pretty much in the balance especially since Jarrett still technically owns the Global Force Wrestling name and intellectual property and the deal to sell to Anthem was never fully finalized. Anthem Sports & Entertainment officially took over TNA from Dixie Carter on January 5th of this year with Ed Nordholm assuming the top role in the company. Carter retained just 5% of the company, 14 years after her family took over from the Jeff Jarrett and his father Jerry Jarrett. In March, the TNA name was completely “deleted” and rebranded to just Impact Wrestling. A week after the announcement of the name change, Anthem started laying off employees and cutting back on original programming on the Fight Network to continue fund the wrestling operation.

Jeff Jarrett was “blindsided” by the move to get him out of his Chief Operating Officer position and forced to take an indefinite leave of absence. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the higher ups at Anthem had made the decision a week before but did not notify Jarrett until this past week when the announcement was done. Earlier in the day before the announcement, Jarrett tweeted that he was looking forward to September. “Tuesday morning… let’s go…super excited about September for @IMPACTWRESTLING @GFWWrestling …” he wrote in a tweet. The report on the Observer states that problems with Jarrett had been building up for months, including clashes with other employees during television tapings and the drunk text messages to Reby Hardy, Matt Hardy’s wife. Meltzer adds that Jarrett’s behavior at Asistencia Asesoría y Administración’s "TripleMania" also did not help his case and Ed Nordholm of Anthem, who was on the trip as well, took the executive decision to remove Jarrett.

Jeff Jarrett has updated his bio on Twitter. It now reads: “Husband! Father! Family Man! Love to quote Scripture and Quotes that mean something 2 me... Several new projects on the way…Bookings, email JJ4Jarrett@gmail.com”.

Karen Jarrett tweeted a message thanking Anthem and everyone who has reached out during Jeff Jarrett’s leave of absence. She tweeted “So many continue to reach out to Jeff and myself. Thank you for all the love! Thank you Ed Nordholm and Anthem for giving Jeff the time he needs! And to all the fans this is 110% a positive for Jeff and GFW/Impact!”

PWInsider.com is reporting John Gaburick, Sonjay Dutt, and Scott D’Amore will head up the Global Force Wrestling creative team moving forward, running it together with Dutch Mantell, Jeremy Borash, and Abyss also adding input and assisting them.

Just like Global Force Wrestling, Jim Cornette’s involvement with the company is up in the air after the "Bound For Glory" pay-per-view. In his recent podcast, "The Jim Cornette Experience" on MLW Radio, Cornette said that he will be part of the November "Bound for Glory" pay-per-view but after that, he is not booked for any tapings. GFW has not released dates of any tapings past the BFG show. Cornette returned to the company on the August 17 live Impact, firing Bruce Prichard and revealing himself as the new on-screen authority figure. He previously worked for TNA between 2006 and 2009.

In a recent podcast, Jack Swagger said le loves wrestling again since leaving WWE. He said "This is all very new to me, but, at the same time, I’m loving it. I have a new love for (pro) wrestling all over again away from the company that we all hate, but at the same time, we all watch. It (has) been very cool, man. I really dig it. I’ve been wrestling in some form since I was five years old, so to be here and to be able to provide for my family. Forget about it, dude. It’s f—ing awesome. The weirdest thing by far for me is the ropes. Like, every show the ropes are different and they’re sometimes loose as f— and like, ‘Uh, should we do that?’ But, dude, other than that, I’m low key, man. But so far, so good. I’ve only been in it a month, so ask me again in two months."

For the past several years, Ric Flair has been represented by Legacy Talent and Entertainment and its CEO Melinda Morris Zanoni. However, that partnership is now over effective immediately as Flair announced that the group no longer represents him as of September 6th. “I will announce new representation tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the new beginning and the great opportunities that await me,” Flair wrote in a post on Facebook. Zanoni has not publicly addressed the separation yet. It is not known what caused the break up, however, when Flair was rushed to the hospital, Zanoni put up a statement which couldn’t be farther from the truth, saying Flair went in for a routine check up and there was nothing to worry about. The real story was completely different as Flair was pretty close to death, put in a medically-induced coma, and later underwent surgery to save his life.

After announcing that he is no longer being represented by Legacy Talent and Entertainment, Ric Flair revealed his new agency representing him, Get Engaged. “I am now being formally represented by Get Engaged. I am looking forward to the future and continuing my legacy. I am excited for new beginnings for me, my family and my new home at Get Engaged,” a statement read. Flair also said that he’s returning “better than ever.” Get Engaged describes itself as a company which provides solutions for individuals and brands trying to effectively communicate online. “We curate digital and social media strategy for household names from the world of music, professional sports as well as non-profit organizations. We also focus on developing strategy and tools in digital and social media spaces,” their website says. Flair has already worked with Get Engaged when he went “shoe shopping” for Complex.com.

As his health continues to improve, Ric Flair’s Twitter account posted photos of Charlotte visiting him in the hospital last week.

Oklafan congratulates Tim Rockwell on the birth of nis nephew Nathan on September 6th.
