NEWS
Jack Swagger said that MMA could be a possibility now that he is not with WWE. He recently said “I have to consider fighting, because it’s such a game changer. If I can do both then why not? It’s only going to help my pro wrestling career, and I’ve been training now for about four months and working towards something. It’s very exciting, I wish I would’ve started sooner. It’s who I am and it’s something I got away from.”

WWE has uploaded several new shows to the Old School section of the WWE Network. The new shows are:

August 7, 1976: Madison Square Garden show headlined by Bruno Sammartino vs. Stan Hansen in a cage match. This was the rematch from the Shea Stadium show on June 26th of the same year.

October 25, 1976: Madison Square Garden show headlined by Bruno Sammartino vs. Nikolai Volkoff

December 19, 1977: Madison Square Garden show headlined by Superstar Billy Graham vs. Mil Mascaras (Mascaras' only MSG main event and Graham's last successful WWWF World Title defense), and Harley Race vs. Rick Martel for the NWA World Title

December 17, 1979: One of the most loaded Madison Square Garden shows ever: Bob Backlund vs. Bobby Duncum in a Texas Death Match for the WWF Title, Harley Race vs. Dusty Rhodes for NWA World Title, Antonio Inoki vs. Iron Sheik for the National Wrestling Federation Title, Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Johnny Rivera for the WWF Junior Heavyweight Title, Ivan Putski & Tito Santana vs. Victor Rivera & Swede Hanson for the WWF Tag Team Titles, Ted DiBiase vs. Hulk Hogan in Hogan's MSG debut, Seiji Sakaguchi & Riki Choshu vs. Bad News Allen & Jo Jo Andrews for North American Tag Titles, Mike Graham vs. Johnny Rodz, and Larry Zbyszko vs. Bulldog Brower

March 17, 1985: Madison Square Garden show headlined by Mr. T in Piper's Pit.

November 23, 1981: Bob Backlund vs. Greg Valentine cage match for the WWF Title, Pedro Morales vs. Don Muraco for Intercontinental Title, Dusty Rhodes vs. Angelo Mosca, and Mil Mascaras vs. The Executioner

December 28, 1982: Bob Backlund vs. Superstar Billy Graham in a Lumberjack Match, Pedro Morales vs. Don Muraco for Intercontinental Title, Jimmy Snuka vs. Ray Stevens, and Buddy Rose vs. Ivan Putski

Ric Flair is going to the Knoxville, TN area on July 12th to campaign for Glenn Jacobs (Kane) who is running for mayor of Knox County.

Tessa Blanchard has been named as one of the entrants of WWE's inaugural "Mae Young Classic". Tessa is a 3rd generation wrestler. Her grandfather was Joe Blanchard and her father is Tully Blanchard. Also, her stepfather is former pro wrestler Magnum T. A.

Impact Wrestling announced last week that Mexican wrestling legend Dos Caras will be making his debut at "Slammiversary" and will be in the corner of his son, Alberto El Patron, for the Global Force Wrestling/Impact Wrestling World Title Unification Match against Bobby Lashley. "It’s an honor to welcome Dos Caras to Impact Wrestling for Slammiversary,” said Jeff Jarrett, Impact’s Chief Creative Officer. “I’m sure Dos Caras won’t be afraid to intervene on Alberto’s behalf, if need be, and he still carries a mighty punch.” Dos Caras is considered one of Mexico’s biggest luchadores in history and is the brother of another Mexican wrestling icon, Mil Mascaras.

Reby Hardy, the wife of Matt Hardy, has once again used Twitter to rip into Jeff Jarrett, who earlier last week made an interview and downplayed the Broken Hardys gimmick fight, saying that copyright and trademark laws are simple in this case and Impact Wrestling owns everything. “Stop doing stupid interviews before I release your drunk texts & the DUI records that somehow haven't gotten out,” Reby tweeted to Jarrett. “If the issue was as simple & cut/dry as these morons are trying to make it seem, I wouldn't have been out here fighting for my family.” Reby said that Impact Wrestling can’t afford to go to court over the whole saga and they’re trying to downplay it to anyone who will listen to look powerful. In the same interview, Jarrett said that he doesn’t want to make a story out of the whole situation and wants it to end in a quiet manner. Reby said that if that was the case, the “company stooges” shouldn’t give interviews spewing bullshit. “Money is power. Never forget that,” she added, once again tagging Jarrett in the tweet

Impact Wrestling has fired Shane Helms, Al Snow, and Pat Kenney from their roles of producers as more cost-cutting measures are implemented following the takeover of Anthem Sports and Entertainment. All three have been flooded with messages of appreciation from their now former co-workers. Helms had been working with Impact since 2015 while Snow was there since 2008 and Kenney since 2003. “The kindness & gratitude for whatever small contribution I’ve made has touched my heart & all I can say is thank you very very much,” Snow wrote. Kenney added, “The outpouring of gratitude for my contribution to @IMPACTWRESTLING has been humbling. It's nice to know I've helped so many.” Meanwhile, Helms first saw the funny side of the story. “I'd like to wish @IMPACTWRESTLING all the best in their future endeavors. I've never been an ass-kisser and I damn sure wasn't gonna start with an owl,” he wrote, before transitioning to a more serious message. “It was a good little run. The worst thing in wrestling is and always will be the politics. But there's a lot of talent still there and I really enjoyed my time there. Big thanks to all the guys and gals I worked with.” Matt Hardy, who had his own fight with Impact and who is a big friend of Helms also chimed in. “Definitely their loss. You have the most creative, on-the-pulse wrestling mind of any producer right now. You are a VESSEL of knowledge,” Hardy wrote.

The second series of Ring of Honor action figures are available from Figures Toy Company, including figures for Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish, and Delirious. These are the first action figures ever released for the four. Also available in the "Rising Stars" line are figures for Kenny Omega, Joey Ryan, Tama Tonga, and Cliff Compton. All are their first, except for Compton as he had a figure as Domino in WWE. Future releases include the first figures ever for tag team War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe), Brian Cage, and Jeff Cobb. Konnan is also getting an action figure, which is the first since his days in TNA.

Johnny Mundo, J. T. G., and Rocky Romero are in The Asoka's new music video and they all rap in it. Christopher Daniels makes a really funny cameo in it too. The album version of the song has even more wrestlers like MVP, Sonjay Dutt, and another former WWE/TNA champion (who wanted to remain anonymous) rapping on the song.

There will be a tribute to Doug Somers show on July 8th in Villa Rica, GA at Gold Dust Park with a Tribute Battle Royal.

Breaking News for the week-long 2017 Harley Race Wrestling Camp. The latest company to announce their participation for this year's training camp is WWE. The largest company in this industry continues their long-standing relationship with Harley Race and World League Wrestling as they will have Steve Corino attending this year's training camp. Mr. Corino has traveled the globe multiple times over, and has been involved in professional wrestling for over 20 years competing for the original ECW, TNA, Ring of Honor, and now serves as one of the top trainers at WWE NXT. He will be evaluating talent for WWE, as well as giving advice and analysis. To reserve your spot at this year's training camp to learn from Steve Corino, as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor Wrestling, visit http://www.harleyrace.com/trainingcamp.html now. Limited spots are available. Costs for the camp are $500.

Bill Goldberg is doing a one week tour of the United Kingdom with talk shows tonight in Glasgow, Scotland, Tuesday in Manchester, England, and July 2nd in London, England.

There are rivalries in the ring in professional wrestling, but some real rivalries happen backstage. Jim Cornette and Vince Russo share a rivalry that has been going on for nearly two decades and it does not seem like it’s going to stop any time soon. Vince Russo filed a protection order in the State of Indiana against Jim Cornette, alleging that he has been the victim of stalking. Russo selected "I am or have been a victim of stalking" as the reason. “Golly, VOLDERMORT just filed a Emergency Protective Order on me. I can't hang out with him anymore,” Cornette wrote on Twitter, adding a picture of the order which was hand delivered by police officers to his home in Louisville, KY. The order states that Cornette must stay away from Russo, his family, their home, and his place of work. The history between the two is pretty brutal and both of them say pretty nasty things about each other on their respective podcasts. Fortunately for Cornette, and not that he needs it, he has more support behind him than Russo does as Russo is disliked by many in the industry. Russo also recently started feuding with Bruce Prichard who currently works for Impact Wrestling.

Oklafan extends condolences to Al Farat on the recent passing of his sister-in-law Carol.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Dan Wilder, who passed away June 18th at the age of 57 years old. At this time, no official confirmation of the cause is available, but there are reports that kidney failure contributed in some way. Wilder, whose real name was Dewey Wilder, was born in Texas and debuted in either 1987 or 1988, being brought into the business by Tommy Gilbert and Tom Jones. His most prominent run in Oklahoma took place in the 1990s, but information from that time period is sketchy. It is known that he formed a tag team with Bobby Burns and they became known as The Texas Outlaws. Together that would hold the WWEmp Tag Team Title on 3 documented occasions. The first reign probably occurred in 1994 when they defeated The Mighty Nation. A disputed decision involving The Southern Express resulted in those titles being held up. The Southern Express would win a tournament to claim the titles, but the same day, February 18, 1995, they would lose them back to The Texas Outlaws. This title reign would be ended sometime within the next couple of months by The Hillbillies, Uncle Donc and Crazy Carl. Their 3rd and final tag team title reign began in either late 1995 or early 1996 when The Texas Outlaws def. The Bad Boyz (Krull Danzig & Brett Knight). That reign ended on May 17, 1996 when they lost a Texas Bullrope Match to The Bad Boyz. Wilder also had solo success in the WWEmp, defeating The Original Renegade for the WWEmp Television Title. He would lose it to Crazy Carl later that year. After WWEmp shut down, Wilder, Burns, and Bernard Funk, who joined the faction in WWEmp, would move on to OPW, where they would once again be dominant as a tag team. Burns & Wilder would defeat Generation X for the OPW Oklahoma Tag Team Titles on April 18, 1998. They would lose them to The Bad Boys (Splash Jackson & Bull Schmitt) on June 13th of that year. The Bad Boys would be stripped of the titles a month later and The Outlaws, this time with Wilder teaming with Funk, would win a tournament to reclaim the belts on August 8, 1998. This reign would end at the hands of The VIP Crew (Rocco & Vinnie Valentino) on October 24, 1998. Wilder disappeared from the wrestling scene shortly after that, but would resurface in 2007, once again teaming with Bobby Burns. Together they beat Big Smooth & Jon Cross to become the inaugural SECW Tag Team Champions on October 20, 2007. But less than a month later, they were stripped of the titles for unknown reasons. Burns and Wilder would continue to wrestle together after that in Kansas before health issues forced Wilder to retire. Wilder has 15 documented Oklahoma appearances, though, again, more are likely as information from the 1990s is scarce. His earliest is November, 1994 in Tulsa for the WWEmp, when he and Bobby Burns defeated The Southern Express (Scott Summers & The Tennessee Rebel). His last appearance was the previously mentioned victory with Burns over Jon Cross & Big Smooth for the SECW Tag team Titles on October 20, 2007 in Antlers, OK.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Pogo, who passed away June 23rd due to a cerebral infarction suffered while undergoing back surgery. He was 66 years old. Pogo was born Tetsuo Sekigawa and began wrestling in 1972. He is probably best known for popularizing hardcore wrestling and “death matches” in Japan, but that is just one aspect of a wide ranging career. Pogo competed under many different names in his career as well as many different places. He began in New Japan, but quickly grew frustrated with their rigid structure. He them moved to Canada, then into the United States in 1975. Initially he competed in the Central States Territory, then he moved to Tennessee and then into Texas. It was here that he won his first title and also where he first competed as Mr. Pogo, due to constant mispronunciation of his then-current ring name, Mr. Togo. He returned to Canada in 1979 for about a year, but by 1980, he was back in the US. This was when he made his way to TSW. Pogo would defeat Terry Gibbs for the TSW Title in November 1980. It is known that he lost the title to Tom Jones, regained it and then lost it to Jones again, but specific dates for those title changes are not known. What is known is that by 1981, Pogo was gone from TSW. Pogo would venture over to the Mid-Atlantic territory for 3 years and then move back to Central States in 1985. This would be the end of his career in the United States, but certainly not the end of his notoriety. In 1985, Pogo returned to New Japan and partnered with Kendo Nagasaki as The Ninja Express. This partnership would continue in the World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico, although Puerto Rico would be difficult for him as the murder of Bruiser Brody caused a decline in the wrestling industry and Pogo was forced to take a job in a plastic molding plant. In addition to the 7 tag team titles he held with Kendo Nagasaki, he also held the WWC Junior Heavyweight Title, despite being over the weight limit. By June 1990, Pogo was back in Japan for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, where he began feuding with Atushi Onita and established his reputation for Death Matches. In 1996, Pogo suffered a severe injury in a Double Hell Match against Terry Funk when barbed wire broke in is back. Pogo attempted to return after that, but was all but immobile in the ring. Nonetheless, he continued to compete in various Japanese independent federations until 2016. Pogo has 11 documented Oklahoma appearances. The earliest was in March 3rd, 1980 in Tulsa where he defeated Gary Black. The last was February 26, 1982 in Oklahoma where he was advertised as competing against Skandar Akbar in a Steel Cage Match, but the result of that match is unknown.
