NEWS
Desi Derata will be attending the upcoming WWE tryouts at the WWE Performance Center July 14-17. She has wrestled in several promotions around the US and also has valeted for The Arrow Club in IWR.

On the latest edition of "Superstar Ink", host Corey Graves talks to Goldust about his tattoos and then the cameras continued rolling as Goldust got a tattoo honoring his late father, Dusty Rhodes, on the second anniversary of his passing.

While ratings for RAW last Monday were predictably down against the NBA finals, the clip of the brawl between Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar has done well on YouTube. It is currently approaching four million views. The last time that a WWE video hit the three million mark was for Jinder Mahal's "Punjabi Celebration."

During his appearance on "Busted Open Radio", Jim Ross said he wants to call Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe in July. He said “I believe those two guys are gonna have a whole hell of a lot to say about their presentation in Dallas. I really do. I also believe that each guy is an alpha male. They’re going to bring each other their best, there’s gonna be locks up that would make some people leave wrestling school. So, I believe Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar is going to be a classic… I believe it’s going to be a great match, ya know, I’ve lobbied to call it, like a goof. I will ‘Talk for food.’ From Oklahoma to Dallas, I can be there in two and half hours.”

Jinder Mahal talked about how his WWE release in 2014 benefitted him. He said “Looking back at it, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to me because I got to go away and reinvent myself and rediscover myself, get my confidence back, get my focus back most importantly. You need those lows to enjoy the highs and the wrestling business is like that. Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down, but you’ve just got to stay persistent and better days always come.”

On a recent episode oh his podcast, Konnan said that Jeff Jarrett wants the opponents for the Latin American Xchange in IMPACT to be Aerostar & Drago, who are under contract to Lucha Underground. That's notable since previously LU had been strong that none of its talent could appear on television for any other promotion, at least under their LU names. He also said that ACH and Sammy Guevara will be getting IMPACT tryouts.

IMPACT Wrestling announced that Robert Flores would work the announcing table at "Slammiversary" on July 2nd with color commentator Don West. Here is Flores' quick resume from a press release: "Flores is a studio host appearing across MLB Network’s programming, including MLB Network’s Emmy Award-winning daily studio show, "MLB Tonight". In addition to MLB Network, Flores is a studio host for NHL Network and contributes across MLB Advanced Media’s digital properties, including MLB.com and Sports On Earth. Flores joined MLB Network and NHL Network in 2016 from ESPN, where he most recently anchored "SportsCenter", ABC’s college football studio updates and ESPN2’s "Fantasy Football Now". Flores joined ESPN in 2005 as an ESPNews anchor and later contributed to a variety of studio shows, including "Baseball Tonight", "NBA Fastbreak" and "Friday Night Fights"." Of course, the regular broadcasters, Josh Mathews and Jeremy Borash, are competing in a tag team match, with Borash & Joseph Park facing Mathews & Scott Steiner.

Gene Simmons of KISS is trying to trademark the Jimmy Snuka "I love you sign" which he claimed he came up with in 1974. However, Deaf Heritage dates the origin of the sign to 1905. However, resident students of deaf schools from the early 20th century do not recall seeing the sign anywhere until the 1970s.

Shane Douglas has joined the podcasting world with "The Triple Threat Podcast" featuring "The Franchise" Shane Douglas alongside John Poz and Chad from "The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling". It's on Eric Bischoff's IRW Network.

Lance Osburn placed 3rd at the American Grappling Federation Tulsa Open event this past weekend.

Jan Murphy of Postmedia wrote a story entitled "WWE champ Mahal vows the best is yet to come" which you can read on SLAM! Wrestling by clicking here.

Natalya wrote a story about her father Jim Niedhart entitled "My dad taught me to be myself, be fearless and be different" which you can read on SLAM! Wrestling by clicking here.

Lucha Underground wrestlers Cheerleader Melissa Anderson and Taya were in a car accident last weekend. Here is Anderson's update from Facebook: "Thankfully myself, Taya and our friend who was driving were able to walk away from a serious car accident in Philadelphia. Unfortunately we were hit by a drunk driver at 1:30 in the morning resulting in the car spinning out, and ending up hitting the guard rail on an overpass. Thank you to the Philadelphia Police Department who responded very quickly to assist the situation, and the EMTs that checked on us. Also thank you to everyone who was in our group that not only witnessed everything, but also supported us throughout the night. Very happy to be home." Oklafan wishes them a speedy recovery.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Mark Mason who passed away on June 12th at the age of 65. The exact cause of death in unknown although it is known he had been in ill health for a while. Mason, whose real name was Mark Hine, was the former husband of Mike McGuirk and the father of Max McGuirk. He promoted the Bad News Slugout Toughman contests in the 1990s in Tulsa. In 2000, he worked with Rocco Valentino and Rick Garrett to put on what is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest independent wrestling event in history of Oklahoma, drawing approximately 5000 people. Mason provided live color commentary to the crowd for that event, which was headlined by The Hardy Boyz facing The Fabulous Freebirds. Six months later, Mason worked with Valentino & Garrett again to put on a second show, this time headlined by Jake Roberts vs. The Honky Tonk Man. This one was not nearly as successful as the first and Mason never promoted a show again. In 2004, Mason released a film called "Prize Fighter", which chronicled the development of a Bad News Slugout-style promotion. The movie Rocco Valentino, Justin Lee, and Rick Garrett in supporting roles and was filmed in areas in Tulsa, Muskogee, and Oklahoma City.
