Is Lone Star, Inc.'s Title Reign Over Before It Even Begins?

Posted: Jun 8th 2017 By: CMBurnham

It took months of pursuit as well as a personal betrayal for Lone Star, Inc. to finally capture the WFC Tag Team Titles from Simply The Future.

J. D. & Alex had survived all kinds of different matches as Trey Cole, Cody Burns and the Longhorn Outlaw pursued them. It seemed like every opportunity given to them by the WFC resulted in the same way: STF walking away as WFC Tag Team Champions.

But in May, Lonestar, Inc. somehow managed to convince WFC Director of Operations Striker to book them in a Handicap Match for the WFC Tag Team Titles. This presented enough of a challenge, but unbeknownst to everyone (at least, until the main event), jealousy was brewing as Alex Royal felt that it should be him having a shot at the WFC Title instead of J. D. So when some “miscommunication” resulted at the end of the Handicap Match, resulting in Lone Star, Inc. finally winning the titles, it initially was looked at as an unfortunate accident. But eventually, it was recognised for what it was: A conspiracy.

There was plenty of celebration immediately after that title win for the new champions and their biggest cheerleader, Travis Fowlhark, who left his position as colour commentator for the WFC DVD taping. But LSI did not have much time after that to soak in the glory of their new titles because Striker unveiled the fan voting options for Fandetta on June 3rd. One of those voting options was to determine the opponents for Lone Star, Inc’s first title defence. That in itself put the champions at a bit of a disadvantage. But there was more to come on the day of the event.

The night before Fandetta, Cody Burns finally defeated BPPW Oklahoma Champion Brandon Groom for the title in a wild brawl that went all over the arena in Sapulpa. This fight lasted almost 30 minutes and obviously took a lot out of Burns, so he contacted WFC management saying that he would begin a vacation the day of the day of Fandetta. He was sure that things would be in good hands, though, since the Longhorn Outlaw and Trey Cole would defend the titles.

Apparently, Burns had not bothered to talk to Cole prior to that decision, as Cole had suffered an injury sometime after winning the belts and had also contacted WFC management, saying that he would be unable to compete at Fandetta. He was sure that things would be in good hands, though, since the Longhorn Outlaw and Cody Burns would defend the titles.

And neither of these competitors bothered to contact the Longhorn Outlaw about their absence, leaving him in quite a jam when it came time to defend the titles.

Fortunately for him, Striker decided to make a couple of decisions in an effort to provide a fair scenario. Since only one champion was present, he turned the match into a non-title match. And he allowed the Outlaw to pick a partner from the locker room for the night. The Outlaw chose Steven Cruze. While they had never teamed with each other, Cruze had plenty of experience in tag team competition both with Urn Stokes as part of the Wrecking Crew in ComPro and with Lance Osburn as Party Cruze in WFC.

And they probably felt a little better about things when they saw their opponents were Drake Gallows and BCW Buzzsaw Champion One Man Sam. These two have had an off-again/on-again friendship that seemed to be off again as they beat each other senseless just a few weeks prior in a Dog-Collar Chain match where Sam beat Gallows for the Buzzsaw Championship.

But Sam and Drake proved that their relationship was ON again and took everything they had to the Outlaw and Cruze. So much so that when the Outlaw went for a tag towards the end of the night, Cruze dropped from the ring apron and decided the fight was no longer worth it, walking away. This left the Outlaw on the opposite end of a Handicap Match and he quickly fell victim to a pinfall loss.

Now, Drake and Sam find themselves on the receiving end of a title opportunity, having pinned a champion in a non-title event. That will happen on June 17th. And if Lone Star, Inc. shows the lack of cohesion that they had this past week, it will be all over for them before it even begins.
