Is A Separation In The Works For Groom And His "Bride"?

Is A Separation In The Works For Groom And His "Bride"?

Posted: May 24th 2017 By: Michael Hunt

Since reclaiming the BPPW Oklahoma Title, Brandon Groom has found way after way to elude his challengers. Despite matches against contenders such as Cody Burns, Spyder and even Mr. Nasty, Groom used associates such as Kenneth Caine as well as stipulations such as the title not changing hands on Countouts in order keep what he refers to as his “bride” firmly in his clutches.

So imagine Groom’s surprise when he came to the ring for the main event at the BPPW event this past Friday night. Groom was teaming with Mr. Nasty to face Cody Burns and Spyder, but BPPW co-Commissioner. C. M. Burnham wanted more than just a regular main event tag team match. With that in mind, Burnham decided to up the stakes and issued this stipulation. If the team of Burns and Spyder won, whoever made the pinfall or submission would get a BPPW Oklahoma Title shot. But, if the team of Groom and Nasty won, then Nasty would automatically get a title shot. None of this made Groom pleased, but his own pride prevented him from simply abandoning the match.

The dichotomy between the functioning of Burns & Spyder with that of Nasty & Groom was almost like night and day. Burns and Spyder both worked together, understanding that only one of them could be declared the winner, but also understanding that if they worked together it would be better for everyone involved. In contrast, Nasty and Groom almost refused to cooperate, both pointing fingers at each other and utitilising blind tags seemingly in an effort to one-up each other rather than finding a way to work together. And that led to the end result as Cody Burns was able to capitalise on a disagreement between Nasty and Groom to pin the champion in the middle of the ring.

With that victory, Burns became the #1 contender to the BPPW Oklahoma Title and now awaits the opportunity for the title match, but Groom still had a couple of tricks up his sleeve. After the BPPW event on Friday, Groom reminded BPPW Co-Commissioner Dave Donovan that he only had to defend his title once every 30 Days and had done so just the previous week. So, since the Groom-Burns match cannot be made for this Friday, Co-commissioner Burnham ordered that this Friday, both Burns and Groom will have special opponents selected for them.

But even with that at the forefront of his mind, Groom also has another challenge on the outskirts in the form of BCW Buzzsaw Champion Sam Stackhouse. Stackhouse had demanded that Burnham simply hand him the newly-instituted Any Time/Any Title contract, but Burnham countered by saying Stackhouse had to earn that title by competing in a Battle Royal against 7 other people. That match happened in the second half of the show and came down to 3 people: Stackhouse, Ray Martinez and Wesley Crane. At that point, it became a Triple Threat Elimination Match. Martinez was the first to be put away by Wesley Crane, who then looked to overcome the size, power and cunning of Sam Stackhouse. Though he made a valiant effort, Crane found himself on the wrong end of a Black Hole Slam and Stackhouse did exactly what he promised to do. He now had a contract that gave him an opportunity at becoming the first 3-time BPPW Oklahoma Champion.

So, with Cody Burns on one side and Sam Stackhouse on the other side, Brandon Groom has to be extra cautious in the upcoming events if he expects to continue his “honeymoon” with the BPPW Oklahoma Title. Otherwise, it looks like a sudden and unpleasant “divorce” could be forthcoming.
