Jinder Mahal became the 50th man in history to be named WWE Champion with the big win at Backlash. As noted, this was Mahal’s first title win in WWE since he first started working with the company back in 2010.

Former WWE writer Brian Maxwell posted on Twitter "the largest threat to Jinder's title run will be the wellness policy".

After Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton for the WWE Title at "Backlash", several current and former WWE stars posted on Twitter:

The new name for Jinder Mahal’s finisher is The Khallas. The word Khallas word means finished or the end.

Jinder Mahal appeared on a recent episode of "Talk is Jericho" that was released prior to "Backlash". You can listen to the podcast by clicking here.

Jinder Mahal says he had an offer from Impact before his WWE return. He said “I actually got a call from the other (pro) wrestling promotion too. Yes, (Impact Wrestling called Mahal) and there was a pay-per-view in Orlando (Florida) on Sunday and I live in Tampa (Florida), so they were like, ‘Yeah, can you come talk to us on a Sunday? We want to talk to you. Talk to Big.’ I said, ‘Okay.’ Saturday, the day before, (Mark) Carrano called me, ‘Jinder, we want to sign you back.’ That’s the weirdest thing, so I sat at home, literally, for two years. No one cared about me. Nobody (cared) because I didn’t care! All of a sudden, when I started caring, other people started caring. And then, so I told Carrano, ‘Hey listen, I have a meeting tomorrow. Let me just see my options. I want to talk to them.’ Obviously, I knew I wanted to come back to WWE, but I already told them that I would come talk to them, so I was going to keep my word and talk to them. And then, I called Carrano back and said, ‘Send the contract over.'”

Jinder Mahal says his release from WWE in 2014 was the best thing for him. He said “Looking back now, or in five years or 10 years, I’m going to look back and be like, ‘Do you know what? Getting released was the best thing that ever happened to me’ because: a) I got into real estate; b) I kicked myself out and got re-motivated. Like, to think, if I was still in that slump from 3MB till now, like, I’d be dead! You can’t maintain that! I would be shot. There’s no way I could do that, be that miserable, be living like that for that long, so it’s almost the best thing that happened to me.”

Samoa Joe recently spoke to APP.com about who he would like to face in the future. He has a long list, but one name that stands out is A. J. Styles, who is someone that Joe is very familiar with. “In a lot of ways, I think it would be easier to provide a list of people who I’m not excited to get in the ring and go a round with. I mean, the answer is probably more people than I can list in this certain amount of time. (At) the top of that list, obviously, (are) the John Cenas of the world, Randy Orton. Of course, me and A. J. (Styles), we’ve battled for years back and forth but here it will be different, so anything involving him I’m more than compliant with. Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, the list really is quite long — and hopefully I’ll get to a lot of those places in the coming years”.

Sunday’s WWE United States Title match between champion Kevin Owens and A. J. Styles at "Backlash" was the 4th singles match between the two on WWE TV. All 4 matches have been won by Owens. They previously faced each other three times in 2016 – the March 17th SmackDown, the March 21st RAW, and the May 23rd RAW.

WWE will be holding an all women’s tournament this summer, and excitement for the tournament is at an all time high. It’s rumored that the company is interested in bringing in former TNA Knockout Marti Belle, and former Impact Wresting Knockouts Champion Jade. The tournament is expected to culminate with a live special that will air on the WWE Network on Tuesday, August 29th. Last summer WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic tournament was a big success, and Daniel Bryan teamed up with Mauro Ranallo to call all the action. WWE has yet to announce who will be doing the commentary for the all women’s tournament, but PWInsider reports that there is talk of using Renee Young and Charley Caruso. Lita and Beth Phoenix, as well as Bayley and Charlotte are other names that are rumored to be in consideration as well.

Jim Ross confirmed that he'll be calling the Women's Tournament this summer. Triple H tweeted a photo with Ross prior to "NXT TakeOver: Chicago" on Saturday. Ross called United Kingdom title match on the show.

On the tenth episode of "Dinner With The King", co-hosts Jerry Lawler and Glenn Moore talk about the Twitter posts from Rip Rogers and Randy Orton from the previous week. Lawler responded to Orton and Rogers’ comments, and his thoughts on today’s indie wrestling. He said “I think that the problem Rip [Rogers] and Randy [Orton] have is what the young guys think they need to do to get noticed. It’s what the young guys do in these matches that bothers guys who have been in the business for a while. The young guys, like they said, they have a tendency to go out there and try to squeeze in every single move that they know. Every dive. Every flip. Every flop. Everything they can put in one 15-minute match. So in order to do that, if you are going to put all those moves in, you’re not going to have time to sell anything. It’s just going to be one move after another until the match is over. That is not the way wrestling became what it is today. Not what I think veterans look at and not what the business is supposed to be. It’s not that really entertaining for fans. I think that’s Rip’s and Randy’s point they are trying to make there.” Lawler also gives insight on when he will hang it up and retire from wrestling. He said “When the non-wrestling appearances become more and more than the wrestling appearances. But I do not have a set end date when it comes to retiring from wrestling.” During the episode, he continued talking about his feud with Andy Kaufman, this time including Jimmy Hart into the feud.

There's a trailer out for a new Kayfabe Commentaries 'Supercard' DVD series, featuring a Honky Tonk Man interview and it's actually really interesting and worth a watch. The trailer features Honky talking about how he found out about Vince McMahon's plan for him to drop the WWF Intercontinental Title to Randy Savage in 1988, how and why he refused, and his conversations with Jim Barnett about jumping to WCW, which enraged McMahon. Basically, Honky was aggrieved that Savage and Miss Elizabeth had been at Dick Ebersol's house discussing the planned match without him, and how when he, Jimmy Hart, Savage, and Elizabeth met in Stamford to discuss the planned match, Vince basically considered him an afterthought and essentially told Honky that he was going to be done once he dropped the IC belt to Savage. You can see the trailer by clicking here.

Al Snow was arrested on May 15th in Kentucky and charged with failure to appear. The arrest stems from an incident two years ago after he was stopped by police for a broken tail light and an expired insurance card. Snow wrote on Twitter that a typo in the system led to his arrest as there was a bench warrant for him that he was unaware of. Snow said that he took care of the issue from two years ago. “My car was having trouble, 3 police approached and asked for ID and I was taken in and paid a 234 dollar fine and was released,” he wrote. “A typo resulted in my arrest, and now I’ve spent time in the big house lol Be careful I might just shank you lol,” Snow added. Snow works as a producer/agent for Impact Wrestling and has also appeared on television in the past.

Former AWA World Tag Team Champion “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers passed away at the age of 65 this week. Somers, trained by WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race, spent most of his time in AWA but wrestled in several different promotions, including Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. He and “Playboy” Buddy Rose, managed by Sherri Martel, defeated Curt Hennig and Scott Hall for the AWA Tag Team Titles in May 1986. Somers later did enhancement work for WWF and WCW but last wrestled an indie match in 2012. He unsuccessfully filed a lawsuit against WWE in 2011 over their use of AWA footage with his likeness.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers who passed away on May 16th at the age of 65. Somers, whose real name was Douglas Duane Somerson, was one of 7 children. He began his career in 1971 and spent significant time in the early 1980s in the TSW territory, eventually marrying Mike McGuirk. His time in TSW resulted in 3 TSW Tag Team Titles. The first came in 1980 when he and Ron McFarlane defeated Eddie Gilbert & Doug Gilbert. They would lose the belts to Ron Sexton & Hector Guerrero, then regain them the same year. In October 1981, he teamed with Porkchop Cash and once again won the TSW Tag Team Titles, this time from Frank Hill & Eric Embry. They would lose the belts before the end of the year to Turk Ali Bey and El Toro. After splitting with McGuirk, he would resurface around 1986 in the AWA, where he came to national prominence while teaming with Buddy Rose. The duo captured the AWA World Tag Team Titles from Scott Hall and Curt Hennig in one of the most controversial matches of the time, as they won them by countout, although that stipulation was not announced prior to the match and typically a countout victory does not result in a title change. Rose & Somers would hold the titles until while feuding with the Midnight Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Janetty). During this time, they would also align themselves with Sherri Martel. In the summer of 1987, Somers would gain his second AWA World Tag Team Title when he was a replacement partner for Soldat Ustinov after Boris Zukov jumped to the WWF. Once again, Somers found himself on the losing end in a match to the Midnight Rockers and his tenure in the AWA briefly ended. He would return in 1989, managed by Johnny Valiant, but never reached the heights he had a few years before. In 1991, Somers faced off against Van Hammer, marking his first PPV appearance. His tenure in WCW did not last long and he was eventually seen on screen for WWF in 1992, but only as enhancement talent. Somers has 11 documented Oklahoma appearances. The earliest was on July 4th, 1977 in Tulsa, where he lost to Mike George. The last was February 26, 1982 in Oklahoma City where he faced Tommy Wright (no result for the match is known).

After Doug Somers passed, Marty Jannetty posted on Facebook "I think, only the boyz, and some of my fans, will know why this one is painful, they all are but this one a lot.. at least y’all both (and Sheri) are all together again..Shawn and I will be up there with y’all in about 30 years..then we all can do it all again..love ya Doug , rest in peace my brother".

After hearing of Somers' passing, Les Thornton posted on Facebook "We first become friends in Charlotte in the early '70s. I had the honor of locking up with him many times and it was always a night off. He was a talented heel 'worker' who knew how to tug at the fans' emotions."
