Spyder Puts Bite On Cody Burns, Successfully Defends SRPW US Title

Spyder Puts Bite On Cody Burns, Successfully Defends SRPW US Title

Everyone as that one person that always seems like it is purpose to make your life miserable. To constantly undermine your existence and prevent you from fulfilling your dreams.

Since SRPW relaunched its brand back in March, there has been conflict between Cody Burns and SRPW United States Champion Spyder. Even before Spyder won the title, Burns was there, making things miserable for the popular competitor.

On April 22, when SRPW ran a special event in conjunction with a music festival, Spyder and Cody faced off against each other, with Spyder winning that match by DQ. On May 20th, history repeated itself in the main event slot as once again, Spyder defeated Cody by DQ. The following month, on June 18, Spyder def. Lucid for the vacant SRPW United States Title. While Cody Burns was not on that card, this victory certainly peaked his attention.

Part of the issue is that Cody Burns is very proud of the FACT that he is the longest reinging SRPW United States Champion, holding that title for exactly one calendar year. He defeated Graham Bell for it on February 8, 2013 and lost it to Matt Majestic on February 8, 2014 in a No DQ Match. In the mind of Burns, it seems that everyone else is a pretender to his title and does not deserve to hold the belt he feels is still his.

On August 13, Spyder came to the ring to greet the crowd, but was quickly interrupted by Robbie Awesome. Awesome, who had aligned himself with Burns fairly early in the return of SRPW, talked about how Burns was the longest reinging United States Champion and then brought out the man himself. Burns stepped right up to Spyder and said that initially, is thought was to just let Spyder keep that belt, but he had changed his mind and decided to reclaim what he felt was rightfully his.

This interchange brought out SRPW Commissioner Anna Jackson. Jackson wasted no time in making it clear that she was in charge and specifically addressed Cody, saying she was tired of his attitude and ego. So, in an effort to shut Cody up, she gave him a match for the US Title in the main event spot of that card.

When the match finally arrived, it was as hard hitting as everyone expected. And maybe more. Action spilled out of the ring as the two battled their way all around the crowd and both men used the steel ring stairs and the ringposts on the new 8-sided ring to cause damage to their opponent. In one of the more memorable moments, Spyder executed a perfect moonsault on both Robbie Awesome and Cody Burns at the same time. And then there were the chops. LOTS of chops from Spyder to Burns. And even a few for Robbie Awesome. The echoes of those chops resonated through the building, much to the delight of the crowd.

While Spyder used offensive strikes and is high-flyin agility to cement his offence, Cody used his power and experience edge to try and become a two-time SRPW US Champion. In the end, with the encouragement from the crowd, Spyder was able to pull out the victory and pin Burns. But even after the show was over, the issues between the two men were clearly not resolved, as, while the crowd was leaving, Burns and Spyder battled back out from the dressing area and had to be separated by referees and other SRPW wrestlers. Clearly Burns still wants that one win over Spyder for the title. But as US Champion, there are other wrestlers that Spyder must prepare for.

And all the while, Spyder had best make sure he is watching for Burns over his shoulder.
