Wrestling By The Numbers: Lorenzo Parente

Lorenzo Parente who is remembered for being a rugged and hated main event heel performer in several southern territories during the 1960s and early 1970s has passed away. The 78-year-old Italian is a former 2-Time NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion winning the title in 1965 and 1966. He had his largest success in the industry as one of the top rivals of legendary superstar Danny Hodge and the two had a memorable feud and multiple championship matches against each other. After Parente?s feud with Hodge had run its course he then formed a successful tag-team with Bobby Hart. The duo became former 2-Time NWA Western States Tag-Team Champions and 1-Time NWA Tennessee Tag-Team Champions.

Early in his career Lorenzo Parente competed as both Pancho Parente and Mephisto before becoming a regular staple in organizations including NWA Western States, St. Louis Wrestling Club, the World Wrestling Association, AWA Indiana, NWA Tri-States and others. He stepped away from the professional wrestling industry in 1974 after having a short stint with both the World Wide Wrestling Federation and Championship Wrestling From Florida working as an enhancement talent. After leaving the squared circle he opened a popular restaurant in Nashville Tennessee called Lorenzo?s Italian Restaurant. Parente passed away on March 15th and his funeral was held on March 18th at the St. Edward Catholic Church in Brentwood Tennessee.
