Dexter Hardaway now a 2-time X Division Champion
Posted: Feb 9th 2005 By: oklastaff
Since winning the SRPW Light Heavyweight Title from Cade Sydal on 11/19/04, Dexter Hardaway has had his hands full defending this sought-after prize. The culmination of these titles defenses resulted in the fantastic Fatal 4 Way Ladder Match on 12/2/04 that saw Hardaway prevail and retain the title. Prior to winning the SRPW Light Heavyweight Title, Dexter also had also been successful as the NWA-Oklahoma X Division Champion. However, Dexter felt he was being hindered only defending the Light Heavyweight title against wrestlers that were 200 pounds and under. He came out to the ring on 1/30/05 and said he no longer wanted to only face Light Heavyweights, he wanted to face all wrestlers no matter what size or weight they may be. He handed the Light Heavyweight Title to SRPW Commissioner Eric Roberts and said he did not want it. When Adam Thornstowe appeared on the scene to challenge Dexter to a match, Commissioner Roberts had a brainstorm. He said he would lift the weight restrictions and rename the title the SRPW X Division Title, with no weight limit involved. He also said that he was naming Dexter the new X Division Champion. Dexter was successful in defending the newly named title against Thornstowe. It will be interesting to see if Dexter will be able to adapt to the styles of other wrestlers and if can have a long and successful title run.
